“If you’re interested in America’s future, read this book.” – Mark Levin

“A must-read book to show that the Green New Deal is a dangerous, impractical, misguided and guaranteed failure with catastrophic consequences for the American people.” – Sean Hannity

A new barrier to “save” the climate

This is what awaits us when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Democrats adopt their radical climate plan – the Green New Deal.

It is full of guarantees that are so completely irrelevant to the problem it claims to be “solving” (such as “free college” and income for those who “can’t or don’t want to work”) that even its boosters have admitted that it’s not really about the climate.

Intrepid Marc Morano, author of the bestselling Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change, is breaking down science and politics to uncover the truth about the Green New Deal:

• The science has been clarified: numerous pieces of evidence – and prominent deviations from the “climate consensus” – make it clear that we are not facing a man-made climate catastrophe

• “Climate change” is the perfect Trojan horse for the left’s socialist agenda

• Fossil fuels lifted the West out of poverty – but our elites now want to deny them to the world’s poor

• The Green New Deal is on a collision course with self-government and our fundamental rights

Climate change has been “resolved” several times over the past two decades – with much-noticed international agreements – and yet it is never an excuse for left-wing politics that will cripple our economy, impoverish the world and impair our freedoms.

Green Fraud is your source for all of the facts you need to understand and face the threat.

The nanny will lastly be out there for streaming in April

From Flushing, Queens to Max, HBO.

The nanny is finally on her way to a streaming service, and it will be HBO Max wearing red from April 1st while everyone else is in tan. The news was practically buried in a press release from the streamer filled to the brim with what you’ve got to watch next month. Kate Winslet in the mare of Easttown? Space Jam? The fourth season of The Great Pottery Throwdown? We’ll be excited to get it all, but only after we’ve seen all six seasons of The Nanny.

In case you weren’t there from 1993 to 1999 and haven’t heard the theme song, The Nanny starred Fran Drescher as a fashionista who shows up on the doorstep of the very chic Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) after being kicked out of her wedding salon job by her boyfriend. She surprisingly becomes the nanny for Mr. Sheffield’s three children.

As the song says, “Who would have thought the girl we described was exactly what the doctor prescribed?”

Prince Harry joins BetterUp psychological well being startup

Britain’s Prince Harry speaks at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, UK on May 6, 2019.

Steve Parsons | Pool | Reuters

LONDON – Prince Harry has joined Silicon Valley startup BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer after stepping down from the British royal family and moving to California with his wife Meghan.

Founded in 2013 in San Francisco, BetterUp is a coaching and mental health platform. The company was last valued at $ 1.73 billion after a $ 125 million investment round.

News of Harry’s appointment was first reported by the Wall Street Journal and confirmed in a BetterUp blog post on Tuesday.

It is his first official role in a private company since retiring from work as a member of the royal family.

He and Meghan recently spoke in an interview with Oprah Winfrey about why they left the UK and stepped down from their royal duties. During the interview, which aired earlier this month, Meghan made allegations of racism and cited a lack of royal family support for her mental health issues.

Break down taboos

In his new role, the Duke of Sussex will focus on promoting advocacy and mental fitness awareness, leading the BetterUp mission and expanding the company’s community.

BetterUp claims that its network of over 2,000 coaches has served more than 100,000 members to date. BetterUp’s trainers have worked with staff from organizations like NASA, Warner Media, Mars, and Snapchat-owner Snap.

Harry has tried to break down taboos on mental health over the past few years, and has spoken about his own mental health several times.

He personally found working with a BetterUp trainer “invaluable” and added that the trainer had given him “sound advice” and “a new perspective”.

He explained why he came to BetterUp and firmly believes that “focusing on and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potentials and opportunities that we never knew we had within”.

Open

It is believed that Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, suffered from depression during her marriage to Prince Charles, Harry’s father.

Harry said he had learned “the power to turn pain into purpose” in his own life and learned about “mental resilience” while in the military.

BetterUp is led by Alexi Robichaux, who said he was “energized” by Harry’s “model of inspiration and impact through action”.

New binoculars Nova Cas 2021 torches in Cassiopeia

A ‘new star’ became visible last weekend and is getting brighter and brighter.

It started, as all modern astronomical warnings seem, with one tweet, then two. In the early morning of March 19, we saw that a nova was discovered in the constellation Cassiopeia the Queen near the border with Cepheus. At the time, the nova was +10 ‘with a bullet’ strength and was still glowing. That same night came a formal notice from the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) with the 735 warning about the discovery of the first Nova in Cassiopeia for 2021, Nova Cassiopeiae 2021 or N Cas 2021.

The discovery was made by the Japanese observer Yuji Nakamura on the night of March 18, 2021, and the newly visible star had an initial magnitude of +9.6.

Current Visibility: Will Nova Cassiopeiae Brighten Further In 2021?

At the time of writing, N Cas 2021 is still shining with a power of +7. That puts it within easy reach of binoculars, and when it gets much brighter, it’s visible to the naked eye from a dark-sky location.

In late March, Cassiopeia is low at dusk to observers in the northern hemisphere in the northwest and descends towards a lower peak around midnight before ascending northeast in the early hours of the morning. The moon is now growing towards full on March 28th, after which it will fade and begin to leave the twilight scene.

The + 5 Magnitude Star 4 Cassiopeiae is nearby and is a good guide star. Another well-known deep sky target is just over half a degree from Nova Cas 2021, the open cluster Messier 52 with a magnitude of +6.9. Nova Cas 2021 is roughly equidistant between the stars Beta Cassiopeiae and Iota Cephei to the naked eye.

The coordinates for Nova Cas 2021 are Right Ascension (RA) 23 hours 24 minutes and 48 seconds, declination +61 degrees 11 minutes and 15 seconds. Stars hop through the field and compare the nova with nearby stars of known brightness to find the nova and measure its size. You can make your own custom finder charts for Nova Cas 2021 on the AAVSO website.

This particular nova is located approximately one degree outside the galactic plane, a standard region along which novae normally occur. Classical novas occur when a white dwarf orbits a main sequence star in a tight hug and draws in material that then accumulates or concentrates around the white dwarf. The material then compresses around the white dwarf, warms up, and eventually ignites in an out of control fusion process. A sub-category of repeating eruptive variable stars is known as cataclysmic, or recurring novae. T Pyxidis and U Scorpii are good examples of this subclass.

The exact distance to Nova Cas 2021 is not yet known, but most of them peak around an absolute magnitude of -8 and – like extragalactic supernovae – hold great promise for use as standard distance measuring candles. ‘If’ + 7th magnitude is the high point for Nova Cas 2021, that would mean it’s about 30,000 to 32,000 light years away, on the edge of the outer arm of the Milky Way galaxy, just beyond the Perseus arm … but if so it brightens it can be considerably closer.

– Dr. Adrian Jannetta ??????? (@AdrianJannetta) March 21, 2021

The last good nova with the naked eye for the northern hemisphere was Nova Delphini 2013 in the tiny whale constellation of Delphinus the dolphin about eight years ago. On average, we get a good galactic nova with the naked eye about once every decade.

Here is our list of novae observed over the past century:

If the patch of sky where Nova Cas 2021 is currently located seems familiar, it could be because it is only six degrees away from Tycho’s supernova, as astronomer Tycho Brahe noted in 1572.

Tycho’s star, seen in 1572. Wikimedia Commons / Public Domain.

Unfortunately, galactic supernovae are much rarer cosmic beasts. Although we see several per year in distant galaxies, we haven’t had any good ones in our own galactic neighborhood since the advent of telescopic astronomy four centuries ago. Spica (Alpha Virginis) and Betelgeuse are good candidates around, though both are well above the 50 light year kill zone and will simply put on a good show. Betelgeuse gave us all a break in late 2019 to early 2020 when it clearly subsided, but seems to be returning to its old self for the time being.

If the skies are clear, be sure to find Nova Cas 2021 tonight. It could be the “cosmic nova show” for this decade.

Najee Harris Mock Draft: Buccaneers, Steelers, Jets among the many finest 2021 NFL draft fits Alabama RB

The passing game in Alabama got a lot of attention for its final national championship run with Nick Saban thanks to Heisman winner DeVonta Smith and quarterback Mac Jones. But the Crimson Tide also featured its newest elite, Najee Harris.

Harris (6-2, 230 pounds) had 1,466 yards of rushing and 26 touchdowns in 13 games. He also added 43 catches for 425 additional yards and four more TDs. He was an integral part of balancing and preparing favorable depth shots for Smith and swift field porter Jaylen Waddle.

MORE ALABAMA DESIGN FITS: QB Mac Jones | WR DeVonta Smith

Smith, Waddle and Jones are all expected to advance to the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. There’s also a chance Harris might fall off the board on the night of April 29th.

Harris is a sturdy, strong runner with logs for the legs. But he has also proven to be nimble and quick to shift into second gear in the open. Harris can either run through or around defenders. He has worked to become a reliable asset in the passing game with his hands, routes, and blockages.

Youngest Bama defenders Josh Jacobs (Raiders) and Damien Harris (Patriots) had their NFL runner moments early in their careers, but Najee Harris could be a better mix of their two all-around skills. Here are Najee Harris’s best pro landing spots:

Najee Harris’ best NFL draft fits

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (# 31 overall)

The Buccaneers have re-signed almost every key member of their Super Bowl 55 winning team, with the exception of Leonard Fournette. You have a void for a complementary runner to Ronald Jones who can also be an important factor in catching passes from Tom Brady. The Bucs are well positioned for a “luxury choice” in the first round versus a non-desperate need like defensive tackle.

It might depend on which back they like more for Brady – Clemson’s Travis Etienne, a slightly more dynamic reception threat, or Harris, a complete power back with underrated reception skills in Fournette form.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (# 24)

The Steelers have not re-signed James Conner and have no plans to put Benny Snell Jr. in a massive role. You need to think about offensive tackle early on to find a potential immediate starter at Zach Banner, but since their passing game at Ben Roethlisberger continues to have limitations, they could use a permanent, powerful every-down option to improve their running game.

Harris would be an ideal solution to hammer between the duels and offer Big Ben a reliable exit even on third descents. He has the right last name to be successful in Pittsburgh’s backfield.

3. New York Jets (No. 23 or No. 34)

The Jets will likely think of No. 2 quarterback when moving away from Sam Darnold, but their second first round and first second round would be good places to think about Harris if he becomes available.

Her top running back options right now are Ty Johnson, La’Mical Perine, and Josh Adams. They have been working on upgrading their receiving corps and offensive line, with an upcoming QB change. A back like Harris would do a necessary offensive overhaul for new coordinator Mike LaFleur, according to Adam Gase.

4. Atlanta Falcons (No. 35)

The Falcons will be considering other 4th overall offensive positions (tackle, quarterback) and have ample defensive needs throughout the draft that need to be addressed again. But after a shaky year with Todd Gurley and Brian Hill, who was also unsigned, they look at a depth map led by Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison.

New offensive minded coach Arthur Smith came from the Titans, where another former strong Alabama player (Derrick Henry) was introduced to help build a more explosive downfield passing game. The Falcons already have a Bama 1-2 punch on the wide receiver with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. Harris would fill a huge hole and be a huge asset to Smith with immediate effect.

5. Arizona Cardinals (No. 17 or No. 49)

The Cardinals like Chase Edmonds but have lost another freehand Alabama defender Kenyan Drake to Jacobs’ Raiders. As a productive rushing team around the quick-dashing QB Kyler Murray, they could benefit from racing with him in the backfield again.

Getting Harris into the second half of the first round would be a bit of a shock, but not insane as the Cardinals may already be well positioned elsewhere on their roster as NFC contenders. It all depends on whether there’s an edge rusher, cornerback, or offensive lineman who deserves more choices in terms of talent and scheme. If not in the first round, Steve Keim should be ready to slide up a bit to target Harris in the second round.

6. Miami Dolphins (No. 18 or No. 36)

The Dolphins won’t put Harris in third place overall, but they should be on the radar to reunite him with Tua Tagovailoa in either the middle first round or early second round. This is not a “must see” as Myles Gaskin has been very effective last season with the volume and the addition of former solid Rams backup Malcolm Brown. But Harris would be a good fit if the Dolphins wanted to use one like that with their extra picks.

MORE: Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts break down Najee Harris

7. Buffalo Bills (No. 30)

The Bills are a sleeper for Harris after not seeing much of a traditional running game with youngsters Devin Singletary and Zach Moss to add to Josh Allen last season. However, you have other more pressing needs for cornerback and edge rusher. Should they get Harris, their explosive offense would add a few more dimensions needed.

Claudia Jordan denies the separation of Gary Owen’s marriage and calls Gary’s spouse for not addressing her privately (video)

Claudia Jordan isn’t getting her name sacked because of Gary Owen’s messy divorce and wife Kenya Duke.

After it was revealed the couple was quitting by nearly 18, Kenya took to their Instagram to call their estranged husband and mutual friend Claudia Jordan in a cryptic post about the split.

The post was quickly deleted, but as always, we intercepted the receipts. The deleted post read: “Dallas TX – I have your information. I’ll take care of you in a minute, I’m a little busy now. You can have it, but you can’t disregard me and my children in the process. @ GaryOwenComedy, let her know a storm is coming. “

Although her message was a little vague, she continued with her headline, “I tried to be quiet out of respect for my kids, but @ClaudiaJordan got me on one this morning. For 23 years together, Gary had nothing but a ragged pickup and good credit, no place to live. Dallas, TX Your old a ** should know better. Married, not separated, married @GarryOwenComedy, all the energy you put into lying, acting, and creating a false narrative for these guys who I want to be. You could have done it with a vegetable burger and a glass of fake filtered water. “

In her hashtags, she further said that there were no white women involved, not Claudia, but Claudia’s friend.

Claudia went live on Instagram Monday night after saying she would receive notifications about the drop of name.

In her address, she not only denied any connection to the breakup, but also stated that she did not appreciate Kenya posting her problem on social media when she could have called them.

“I have absolutely nothing to do with it,” said Claudia, speaking to the divorce. “I have no friend in Dallas or anywhere else who is this man’s lover. I don’t know any woman who is his mistress. “

New sort of basalt found underneath the ocean – Watts Up With That?

UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS

Research news

IMAGE: MICROSCOPIC CROSS SECTION OF THE NEW TYPE OF BASALT. Show more CREDIT: EXP 351 SCIENCE TEAM

A new type of rock has been discovered under the Pacific, formed by large and extraordinarily hot volcanic eruptions.

An international team of researchers, including the University of Leeds, discovered the previously unknown form of basalt after it pierced the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

The discovery suggests that the eruptions of the sea floor in the Earth’s mantle were even hotter and more voluminous than previously thought. The report is co-authored by Dr. Ivan Savov from the Leeds Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics at the University’s School of Earth and Environment.

He said: “At a time when we are right to admire discoveries made through space exploration, our results show that there are still many discoveries to be made on our own planet.

“The rocks that we have extracted are very different from rocks of this type that we already know. In fact, they can differ from the well-known seabed basalts of the earth as well as the basalts of the earth from the basalts of the moon.

“Now that we know where and how this type of rock is formed, we anticipate that many other rocks that we know were originally formed by seabed eruptions will be re-examined and potentially alter our broader understanding of basalt formation . “

The newly discovered basalt differs from known rocks in both its chemical and mineral composition.

Its existence was previously unknown as no new examples have emerged in millions of years. As a result, the new type of basalt was buried deep under the sediment on the sea floor.

To find the new rock, the research team on board the Research Vessel (RV) JOIDES “Resolution” sank its drilling equipment 6 km to the seabed of the Amami Sankaku Basin – about 1,000 km southwest of the Japanese volcano Mount Fuji.

They then drilled another 1.5 km into the ocean floor and extracted samples that had never been examined by scientists before.

The research area was part of the birth of the “Ring of Fire” – a horseshoe-shaped belt known for regular volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. It extends about 40,000 km around the Pacific and is believed to have formed at least 50 million years ago.

Dr. Savov stated, “This was one of the deepest bodies of water ever considered for drilling. A research ship was used that was specially developed for such challenging deep-sea environments.

“Basalt is one of the most common types of rock on earth. We looked for basalt that was formed during the early volcanic eruptions of the Ring of Fire. “

The eruptions that created the newly discovered basalt were very widespread (in areas the size of Western Europe) and occurred over a relatively short geological span of between 1 and 2 million years.

The results of the research team were published in Nature Communications. The team consisted of scientists from Australia, Japan, the USA, Germany, Great Britain, China and Switzerland.

Boulder mass capturing at Colorado Buffaloes after the NCAA match ended

Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle opened his post-game NCAA tournament press conference Monday night by addressing the mass shootings that took place just a few miles from the Boulder school campus, saying the tragedy had “one Leave emptiness in his stomach, to win or lose.

“Before we talk about this basketball game, before the game, in the locker room, I was thinking about how events took place in Boulder, Colorado today – and I have no details other than how I know it was a tragic, tragic situation “said Boyle after losing the Buffaloes 71-53 NCAA tournament in the second round to Florida State. “It puts basketball in its right place.

“And tonight, win or lose, I just felt an emptiness in my stomach. Another senseless act of violence that we as a country have experienced many, many times. And so this game is put into perspective. It certainly brings losing to them correct perspective. “

Avalanche: “We are all deeply saddened by the events in Boulder today. Our thoughts and prayers go with all those who are affected by this terrible act.”
Broncos: “Our hearts go out to the innocent victims, grocery store workers, and families of those affected by today’s shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, Colorado. We are grateful for the law enforcement and medical professionals who braved one have reacted to another senseless tragedy. “
Rapids: “We are deeply saddened by the events in Boulder today. Our thoughts are with those who are affected by this terrible act.”
Rockies: “The Colorado Rockies are devastated by today’s pointless tragedy in Boulder. Our hearts break for life that is needlessly lost and our thoughts go out to all who have been affected by this shooting. We are grateful for them brave heroes and first responders who acted quickly. “

“But even if we had won this game and celebrated the Sweet 16, it would have put a damper on it. So my heart goes out to the families affected and those who have lost their lives.”

The authorities said that 10 people died in the shooting in the King Soopers supermarket on Monday, including the police officer who was the first to react to the scene.

Police arrested a suspect but did not reveal his name or details of the shootings at an evening press conference.

Colorado left Boulder and Indianapolis last week to compete in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Boyle said some members of the Buffaloes received notifications of the shooting on their phones about an hour before they arrived at the arena, but he said he had not spoken to his team about the tragedy prior to the notice.

“I’ve spoken to a couple of my assistants about it and we felt like it would probably be better if we were left – we didn’t have any details,” he said. “There was nothing to really talk about and I talked about perspective again after the game.

“But the mentality of your team when preparing for a game is sometimes fragile. I didn’t want to over-complicate your thoughts because we had to play the game. We didn’t want to play the game. So I decided to wait until after the game to discuss it with them and I did. “

Boyle said he didn’t think the shooting was bothering his team’s mind during the game, but added, “I could be completely wrong and rely on it. The only thing I won’t do is sit here and make excuses to find it. ” like we played. I will take responsibility for it. “

Guard McKinley Wright admitted what had happened was on his mind.

“I’ve been thinking about my life and childhood and what I’ve been through and seen these people,” he said after scoring 10 points in the loss. “And what they’re going through now sucks. I’m so sorry and I’m going to pray for their families.

“Basketball is just a game; people lost their lives. That sucks. It’s hard to put into words when I play my last game here at CU and this tragedy in Boulder. It’s just terrible.” “”

Boyle called Boulder “a safe place as I have ever felt and lived in my life”.

“So if it can happen, it can happen there, it can happen anywhere,” he said. “But we have to find a way to stop this stuff. I don’t know the answer, but we just have to find a way.”

The journey business urges the White Home to raise worldwide journey restrictions on Covid-19

COVID-19 vaccination card issued by the Centers for Disease Control

Bill Clark | CQ Appeal, Inc. | Getty Images

U.S. airlines and more than two dozen other industry groups on Monday called on the Biden government to work out a plan by May to lift international travel restrictions, including standards for digital vaccination records, after cross-border travel was destroyed by the Covid pandemic .

Airlines for America, which represents major US carriers like American, United, Southwest, and others, have one letter Jeffrey Zients, the White House’s Covid-19 Response Team coordinator, said the guidelines should exempt vaccinated individuals from international testing rules.

Among other things, the groups urged the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update their guidelines to say vaccinated people can travel safely, according to a copy of the letter viewed by CNBC.

“To be clear, we do not currently endorse the repeal or relaxation of key public health safeguards such as the universal mask mandate, in-depth international testing requirements, physical distancing, or any other measure that would make travel safer and the transmission of life Virus, “said the letter, which was also signed by the US Chamber of Commerce, the largest flight attendant union and other industry groups. “However, the data and scientific evidence show that the right public health measures are now being taken to effectively mitigate risk and enable entry restrictions to be lifted safely.”

Most non-US citizens who have recently been to Europe, the UK and Brazil have been banned from entering the US since March last year, when then-President Donald Trump introduced the rules as Covid-19 spread around the world . In January, President Joe Biden expanded entry restrictions and added South Africa to the list as infections and new, more contagious varieties emerged

The group also called on the White House to set standards for digital health records that immigration officials can use to show evidence of vaccinations or test results.

Meanwhile, airlines and officials have been looking for ways to use digital vaccines or health passports to boost travel and eventually replace travel restrictions. The European Union last week proposed a digital health certificate with a QR code that contains vaccine and Covid-19 test results.

Ed Bastian, Delta Air Lines CEO, told NBC Nightly News last week that he expects digital vaccine passports to be required for international travel.

The White House declined to comment, citing a recommendation against travel that CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky had given on Monday.

“Now is not the time to travel,” she said at a press conference.

“We are concerned not only with what happens when you are on the plane yourself, but also with what happens when people travel, that is, they go out, they mingle, they mingle with people who are not vaccinated “, she said.

Rocks and different options on the Perseverance touchdown website are given Navajo names

On February 18, 2021, after six months in transit, the Perseverance rover landed in the Jezero crater on Mars. On March 4, the company began driving short distances and calibrating its instruments in preparation for any scientific operations it will perform. Most recently, Perseverance began investigating its first scientific target, a rock called “Máaz” – the Navajo word for “Mars”.

This feature is one of many objects of scientific interest in the Jezero crater that is given names from the Navajo language. The process is overseen by the Perseverance Mission Team in collaboration with the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President. This is in line with NASA’s tradition of nicknames for features so that the mission team (which can number in the thousands) have a common name for them.

Recently, the Perseverance team named the rover’s landing site the “Octavia E. Butler Landing” in honor of the late and respected science fiction writer who died in 2006. Likewise, the Curiosity rover landing site at Gale Crater Bradbury Landing was named in honor of Ray Bradbury, the famous science fiction writer perhaps best known for writing The Martian Chronicles.

In this case, the decision is part of a larger effort that has divided the rover’s landing pad into four squares (or “quads”). Each quad is approximately 2.6 km2 and is named after a national park or nature reserve on earth with a similar geology. The quad bike that Perseverance landed in is named for Arizona’s Tséyi National Monument (Canyon de Chelly), located in the heart of the Navajo nation.

One of the engineers on the mission team is Aaron Yazzie from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who is himself a Navajo (or Diné). Via Yazzie, NASA in the south has given the Navajo Nation permission and collaboration to designate new functions on Mars. In response, Jonathan Nez and Myron Lizer (the President and Vice President, respectively, of the Navajo Nation) and their advisors compiled a list of words and made them available to the rover team.

For example, Perseverance’s name was translated to “Ha’anhóni” while words like bidziil (“strength”) and ho? Zero?? (“Respect”) were also highlighted as possible names for traits. Other terms were inspired by terrain already mapped by the rover, such as: B. tséwózí bee hazhmeezh, which translates as “rolling rows of pebbles like waves”. As the President of the Navajo Nation Jonathan Nez said in a NASA press release:

“The partnership that the Nez Lizer administration has established with NASA will help revitalize our Navajo language. We hope that using our language in the Perseverance Mission will inspire more young Navajo people to understand the meaning and importance of learning our language. Our words were used to win World War II and now we are helping you navigate and learn more about the planet Mars. “

Currently the Perseverance team has a list of 50 names to start, but the team will continue to work with the Navajo Nation to include more names for functions if the rover continues to identify them. “This fateful landing on Mars created a special opportunity to inspire the Navajo youth not only through amazing scientific and technical feats, but also through such meaningful use of our language,” added Yazzle.

One of the biggest challenges was adapting the Navajo script so that Perseverance’s systems could recognize it. To convey the unique pronunciation of Navajo words, special accents are included (which the rover’s computer language does not recognize). For now, the team is avoiding complications by simply using English letters with no special accents or punctuation.

However, Yazzie also stated that the team will continue to work on ways to get the right intonations across. Said Nez:

“We are very proud of one of our own, Aaron Yazzie, who plays an important role in NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance mission. We are very excited about the NASA team and Aaron and see him as a great role model who will generate more interest in the STEM fields of study and hopefully inspire more young people to pursue STEM careers for even greater impact and contributions to achieve just like Aaron. As the mission goes on, we offer our prayers for continued success. “

Katie Stack Morgan, assistant project scientist for the PerseveranceI mission at JPL, added that scientists on the team took the opportunity to learn Navajo words and their meanings. “This partnership encourages the rover’s science team to ponder the names being considered for features on Mars – what they mean both geologically and to the people of Earth,” she said.

In the near future, the rover will run further tests to calibrate its advanced suite of instruments. This will be relied on when Perseverance examines Máaz’s composition and what it can say about the history of the Jezero crater. The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter will also conduct another experimental test flight to test its systems and capabilities.

The Kinds of Discoveries Persistence will allow scientists around the world to eagerly await the rovers’ scientific results!
