Tish Cyrus reveals why she began smoking marijuana when she was 42

A traumatizing experience.

On Wednesday March 24th, the brand new E! News’ Daily Pop, Table and Brandi Cyrus I stopped by to promote their podcast. Sorry we are stoned. And how Miley Cyrus‘Mom shared in the exclusive chat above, she didn’t start smoking marijuana until later in life.

Why? Well, because the Cyrus matriarch survived a shocking bus fire. “I was so against it. I never smoked in my life until I was 42,” Tish told the co-hosts Carissa Culiner and Justin New Years Eve. “But I was on tour with Miley and she had moved on – we drove from Houston to New Orleans – and I stayed behind to meet up with friends and our bus burned down on the way to New Orleans.”

As Tish continued, she remembered experiencing this with another daughter Noah Cyrus and said the bus burned down “within three minutes”.

“I went back to bed and suddenly I heard this huge noise that I thought might have been a shot,” she shared. “It was the tire that burst in the bus.”

Water Hazard – Rory McIlroy hits a tee shot into another person’s pool

Water hazards are part of golf. A pond here. A lake there. Throw in a few oceans, even an island green. Typically, however, pools don’t come into play very often on the PGA Tour.

Well, Rory McIlroy fought – he admits it too – so anything is possible.

McIlroy went swimming on the fifth hole of his first game in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play against Ian Poulter on Wednesday morning.

His tee shot was far left at Austin Country Club, hit the cart lane, jumped over a fence, and landed on the bottom of a pool.

See for yourself:

4th hole: 3-putt from 18 feet.
5th hole: tee-off takes place in the swimming pool. @ IanJamesPoulter takes advantage of Rory McIlroy’s slow start and is 3UP through 5. pic.twitter.com/rhnvApdGOo

– PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) March 24, 2021

McIlroy recently admitted his swing is a mess after Bryson DeChambeau’s newfound distance got into his head. Obviously, McIlroy is still looking. On Monday he announced he was starting to work with instructor Pete Cowen. Obviously they still have something to do. And they don’t have a lot of time to figure things out. The Masters that a great McIlroy doesn’t have is only two weeks away.

EU carbon costs drive up electrical energy and fuel costs – watts with that?

Reposted by NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW THAT

March 23, 2021

By Paul Homewood

A good analysis from Timera on how EU carbon pricing policy has driven both natural gas and electricity prices higher this year. Of course, this has a negative effect here.

CO2 fuel gas, electricity and LNG prices higher

European gas prices are determined by the competitive dynamics between gas and coal-fired power plants. As a result, the 80% increase in carbon EUA prices since November 20th is pulling the European gas curves upwards. The prices for European electricity and Asian LNG are following the example as they are anchored by TTF. (Gas futures market).

With rising carbon prices, coal-fired power plants are becoming less competitive compared to combined cycle power plants. This supports the production of gas, increases gas demand and puts upward pressure on hub prices.

Switching levels at which tranches of coal-fired power plants displace gas are a key driver of TTF price dynamics. Switching levels, however, are a moving target. As coal and carbon prices increased in 2021, conversion levels also increase.

In today’s article, we examine the effects of rising carbon prices on conversion levels and gas prices. We also set out why TTF will become more sensitive to rising carbon prices in 2021.

What’s wrong with carbon prices?

Carbon prices have soared over the past year. EUA prices are up 190% from the Covid low (last March), 80% since last November and more than 30% this year. Around 42 € / t are currently being traded.

Rising prices are a market reaction to a concerted push by the EU to accelerate emissions reductions. This was reflected in the increase in the emissions target for 2030 to 55% (compared to 1990) in the fourth quarter of 2020 as well as in the ongoing discussions about a further increase in the reduction.

Part of the rise in EUA prices is due to an increase in demand from non-compliance companies, loosely known as “speculative buyers”. This includes, for example, the compliance demand of funds and financial institutions (e.g. electricity producers) in order to sell at a profit at rising prices in phase 4 (2021-30).

There is also evidence that compliance buyers (e.g. European utilities) are buying EUAs on a forward basis in an attempt to generate positive margins on coal and lignite assets.

Despite the current momentum behind carbon prices, sustained increases are not a one-way street. Rising carbon prices are driving coal and lignite power plant generation margins into negative territory, which is likely to prompt producers to unwind EUA hedges. There is also potential headwinds from UK buyers reducing EUA positions once the UK ETS offers a viable alternative.

Regardless of whether they go up or down, carbon prices have a significant impact on European gas prices (and thus also on electricity prices).

The increasing influence of carbon prices and the dynamics of lignite switchover can be seen in Figure 2, which shows the TTF forward curve (i) at the beginning of January 2021 versus (ii) at the end of February 2021 versus (iii) last week.

Finally, let’s look at European electricity prices. Carbon works in two ways to raise electricity prices. Gas, coal and lignite power plants go through the EUA costs directly when setting the marginal electricity prices. With GKKT dominating the setting of electricity prices across Europe, the impact of carbon on gas prices is also an increasingly important secondary factor driving electricity prices up.

NBA YoungBoy charged on 2 expenses, together with possession of a firearm by a felon (Unique)

TSR Exclusive: NBA YoungBoy has been charged on two charges related to his arrest in September 2020, including the possession of a firearm by a criminal. YoungBoy was arrested on Monday in Los Angeles on an extra-state warrant, but the details were poor when the warrant information was sealed.

The Shade Room received the unsealed federal indictments Tuesday night, which indicate that YoungBoy has two charges, including possession of a firearm by a criminal and possession of a firearm that is not registered with him.

YoungBoy and one of his associates, Morrow Battie, must forfeit firearms and ammunition according to loading documents.

By Tuesday afternoon, it was believed that NBA YoungBoy was still in federal custody. He was wanted on these allegations and stopped in Los Angeles Monday afternoon with assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department.

YoungBoy fled the vehicle he was walking in and hid for a few hours in the Tarzana area, where he was reportedly staying before he was arrested.

He was expected to appear in court for his first appearance on Tuesday, but it is unclear whether the hearing took place or if he is eligible on bail.

YoungBoy was among 15 others jailed in September 2020 during a video shoot in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Baton Rouge police were called into a neighborhood following a tip from an anonymous caller who reported seeing several people waving guns on vacant property.

As the police neared the scene, the boys apparently dispersed while officers were able to arrest YoungBoy and a few others.

During the investigation, officials said they had seized several firearms, drugs and large stacks of money.

Based on what they found, police arrested 16 people and confiscated 14 weapons (one stolen and two illegally stocked weapons) and confiscated $ 79,000 in US currency.

We will keep you informed about updates.

Shares in China’s Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group fell after Hong Kong and Macau announced on Wednesday that they would suspend vaccinations for BioNTech Covid.

Fosun Pharma, BioNTech’s partner in the development and distribution of the Comirnaty Covid-19 vaccine in Greater China, has informed the cities of a packaging error in batch 210102 of the vaccine.

Hong Kong and Macau said they would suspend vaccinations made in Germany as a precaution.

The cities said BioNTech and Fosun Pharma are investigating the cause of the vial cap failure, adding that there is currently no reason to doubt the vaccine’s safety.

Macau says all of its messenger RNA or mRNA vaccines belong to the affected batch. Hong Kong said it would also temporarily suspend vaccinations from batch 210104 until the investigation is completed.

Fosun Pharma shares listed in Hong Kong were down more than 4% on Wednesday afternoon.

Hong Kong approved the BioNTech emergency vaccine in January, while Macau gave the vaccine a special import permit in late February. Both areas received their first shots in late February.

BioNTech’s mRNA-based vaccine has a proven efficacy of 95% in adults, according to data from its global Phase 3 clinical trial. Real-world data has shown that Pfizer-BioNTech’s two-dose Covid vaccine delivers “very strong” results after just one shot.

The news comes as countries around the world struggle to vaccinate their populations amid rising Covid cases in most regions.

So far, Hong Kong has approved vaccines from BioNTech and China’s Sinovac. As of Tuesday, the city announced that approximately 403,000 people had received an initial dose, of which 252,800 were Sinovac shots and 150,200 were BioNTech.

More than 124 million infections have been reported worldwide and the death toll from Covid has exceeded 2.7 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Perseverance begins their science on Mars with a laser zap

Perseverance has already shaped scientific history by making the first audio recording on Mars. But the instrument with the microphone, known as the SuperCam, wasn’t made there. It has a lot of other science to do, and recently it started going through some more preliminary testing. In one of these tests, a stone was blasted with a laser while an audio recording was being made of it.

SuperCam itself is the brainchild of scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory and a consortium of European research universities, with the French Center National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) in the lead. It is touted as the successor to the ChemCam introduced on Curiosity. However, the functions are vastly improved, as evidenced by the audio recordings.

There are 5 main recording instruments integrated into the SuperCam, which perform their main task of understanding the chemical composition of rocks and soil. These instruments include the microphone, a visible and infrared sensor (VISIR), and a Raman spectrometer that uses a green laser to zap stones and analyze the signal emitted by the chemical bonds that the laser zapp breaks.

Part of what makes SuperCam so unique is that all of these instruments work together. VISIR can analyze the visual and infrared light emitted from a rock using the spectrometer’s green laser while the microphone is recording a recording as it did recently. The analysis of the integrated data will hopefully be more useful. Adding the recording of the microphone to the spectrometer analysis can increase the validity of what each individual instrument could observe for itself.

So far, the data has only just been received, so no real scientific evidence or analysis has yet been published. But images and audio recordings can provide their own beautiful portrait of another world, regardless of whether they have been analyzed or not. This is exactly what Perseverance has done particularly well so far. With luck, his systems, including the SuperCam, will continue to work great for the duration of the mission, and hopefully for much longer.

How deepfakes might help implant false reminiscences in our minds

The human brain is a complex, wondrous thing. As we can best judge, it is the epitome of biological evolution. However, it does not include any pre-installed security software. And that makes it ridiculously easy to hack.

We like to think of the human brain as a huge neural network that speaks its own language. When we talk about the development of brain-computer interfaces, we are usually talking about some type of transceiver that interprets brain waves. The fact is, we’ve hacked human brains since the beginning of time.

Think of the actor using a sad memory to bring tears or the detective using reverse psychology to extract a suspect’s confession. These examples may seem less extraordinary than the Men in Black eraser, for example. However, the end result is essentially the same. We are able to manipulate the data that our minds use to ascertain the basic reality. And we’re really good at it.

background

A team of researchers from universities in Germany and the UK today published pre-printed research detailing a study into which they were successfully implanted and removed false memories in test subjects.

According to teamwork:

Human memory is fallible and malleable. This is especially challenging in forensic environments as people may falsely recall events with legal implications that actually never occurred. Despite an urgent need for remedial action, there is virtually no research on whether and how rich false autobiographical memories can be reversed under realistic conditions (i.e., using reverse strategies that can be applied in real-world settings).

Basically, it is relatively easy to implant false memories. Getting rid of them is the hard part.

The study was conducted on 52 volunteers who agreed to allow the researchers to try over several sessions to plant a false childhood memory in their mind. After a while, many of the subjects began to believe the false memories. The researchers then asked the subjects’ parents to claim the false stories were true.

The researchers found that adding a trusted person makes embedding and removing false memories easier.

On paper:

The present study therefore not only replicates and expands earlier demonstrations of false memories, but also decisively documents their reversibility retrospectively: Using two ecologically valid strategies, we show that rich but incorrect autobiographical memories can largely be reversed. Importantly, the reversal was specific to false memories (i.e., it did not occur for true memories).

Incorrect memory planting techniques have been around for a while, but there isn’t much research to reverse them. That is, this paper is not a moment too early.

Enter deepfakes

There aren’t many positive uses for false memory implantation. Fortunately, most of us don’t really have to worry about being the target of a mind control conspiracy where we’re slowly being led to believe in a false memory over multiple sessions with the complicity of our own parents.

But that’s exactly what happens every day on Facebook. Everything you do on the social media network is recorded and codified to create a detailed picture of who you are exactly. This data is used to determine which ads you see, where you see them, and how often they appear. And if someone on your trusted network happens to make a purchase through an ad, they are more likely to see those ads.

But we all already know that, don’t we? Of course, you can’t go a day without an article on how Facebook and Google and all the other big tech companies are manipulating us. Why do we put up with this?

This is because our brains can adapt to reality better than we attribute to them. The moment we know that there is a system that we can manipulate, we think that the system says something about us as human beings.

A team of Harvard researchers wrote about this phenomenon back in 2016:

In a study we conducted with 188 students, we found that participants were more interested in buying a Groupon for a restaurant that was advertised as high-quality if they thought the ad was on certain websites that they visited during a previous task (surfing the internet to create an itinerary) versus when the ad was targeted based on demographics (age and gender) or not at all.

What does this have to do with deepfakes? It’s simple: if we can be manipulated so easily that we are exposed to tiny ads on our Facebook feed, imagine what could happen if advertisers start hijacking the personas and visages of people we trust .

For example, you may not plan on purchasing some Grandma’s Cookies products anytime soon, but when you do your granny I’ll tell you how delicious they are in the commercial you’re watching.

With the technology in place, it would be trivial for a large tech company to determine, for example, that you are a college student who hasn’t seen your parents since last December. Knowing this, deepfakes, and the data it already has on you, it wouldn’t cost much to create targeted ads with your deepfaked parents asking you to buy hot cocoa or something similar.

But wrong memories?

It’s all fun and games when it comes to just a social media company that uses AI to convince you to buy some goodies. But what if a bad actor breaks the law? Or worse, what if it’s the government Not Break the law?

The police use a variety of techniques to obtain confessions. And law enforcement agencies generally have no obligation to tell the truth when doing this. In fact, in most places, it is perfectly legal for police officers to lie outright in order to get a confession.

A popular technique is to let a suspect know that their friends, family members, and co-conspirators have already told the police that they know they committed the crime. If you can convince someone that the people they respect and care about believe they did something wrong, it will be easier for them to accept it as fact.

How many law enforcement agencies in the world currently have an explicit policy against the use of compromised media in obtaining a confession? Our guess would be: close to zero.

And that’s just an example. Imagine what an autocratic or iron-fisted government could do on a large scale using these techniques.

The best defense …

It is good to know that there are already methods that we can use to extract these false memories. As the European team of researchers found, our brains tend to let go of the false memories when challenged, but cling to the real ones. This makes them more resistant to attack than we might think.

However, it always puts us on the defensive. For now, our only defense against the AI-assisted implantation of a false memory is to either see it come or get help after it happens.

Unfortunately that unknown unknowns Make this a terrible security plan. We just can’t plan how a bad actor can exploit the loophole that makes our brains easier to work with when someone we trust is helping the process.

With deepfakes and enough time, you can convince someone of almost anything, as long as you can find a way to get them to watch your videos.

Our only real defense is to develop technology that can see through deepfakes and other media manipulated by AI. Given that brain-computer interfaces will become available in consumer markets in the next few years and media generated by AI become less and less indistinguishable from reality by the minute, we are nearing a point where there is no return to technology gives.

Just as the invention of the weapon enabled those untrained in sword fighting to win a duel, and the creation of the calculator gave those struggling with math the ability to perform complex calculations, we may be on the verge of one Era when it was psychological manipulation becomes a push button enterprise.

1. Was schaust du dir diese Woche am genauesten an?

Tim Bontemps: Was passiert mit Kyle Lowry?

2 Verwandte

Goldsberry: Die Sixers brauchen offensive Hilfe.

Jung: Der Oklahoma City Thunder.

Goldsberry: Boston macht keinen Deal.

Scientists will take a look at the world’s first nuclear fusion reactor this summer time

If everything goes according to plan, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) will be one step closer to the world’s first functioning nuclear fusion reactor this summer when scientists conduct its first test runs.

Nuclear fusion has traditionally been used as the core scientific principle behind thermonuclear warheads. But the same technology that powers our weapons of mass destruction could, in theory, be used to power our cities. This would be the first fusion reactor that can produce more energy than is required to operate.

If we can safely build and operate fusion reactors, we could almost certainly solve the global energy crisis for good. But that’s a big if.

Fusion is difficult

When the nuclei of two atoms fuse together, they release an incredible amount of energy. The big idea behind a fusion reactor is to use a relatively small amount of energy to release an immense amount. This is how the sun and other stars work – that is why they are so bright and give off so much heat.

Restoring the cosmos in a laboratory is an incredibly complex task, but at its core it’s about finding the right materials for the job and figuring out how to force the desired response on useful scales.

ITER could change everything

Scientists do not expect operation with low power consumption at the ITER site until 2025. However, the first test runs will begin in June of this year.

This summer, researchers from EUROfusion will start the Joint European Torus (JET), a separate experiment with which the fuel and material requirements for the ITER experiment will be precisely set before the upcoming start.

The main difference between JET and ITER is the order of magnitude. While JET was paramount, the beginning of ITER design became an integral part of the JET experiment. Scientists shut down JET for a period of months to redesign it to work with the ITER project.

In this way, JET is a kind of proof-of-concept for ITER. If all goes well, the researchers can solve important problems like fuel economy and response optimization.

But fusion is difficult

The fusion solution isn’t just about finding the right fuel mix – but that really is most of it. The conditions for controlled nuclear fusion are much more difficult to achieve than, for example, just turning it into a warhead that explodes. However, this is more of a technical and technical problem than a safety concern.

In theory, nuclear fusion reactors are completely safe. The type of hazardous radiation or reactor meltdowns that can occur with the fission are essentially impossible with the fusion.

The real problem is that it has to be done just right to produce enough energy to be useful. And of course it has to be controlled so that it doesn’t produce too much. This is easy if you envision a one-to-one cores merger. But even modern supercomputers struggle to simulate fusion on a scale large enough to be useful.

What’s next

As soon as JET kicks off this summer, we will have the opportunity to resolve some of these issues. And then, in 2025, ITER will begin a ten-year service cycle in which hydrogen reactions will be carried out with low power consumption.

During this time, scientists will monitor the system while examining a multidisciplinary approach to solving the various technical problems that arise. Central to these efforts is the creation of machine learning systems and artificial intelligence models that can be used to perform the simulations required to scale fusion systems.

Eventually, when the ITER team has enough data and intelligence in 2035, they will swap the reactor’s hydrogen fuel source for deuterium and tritium, two atoms that offer much more clout.

If everything goes according to plan, within a few decades we could swap the global energy crisis for a fusion-driven abundance.
