Considering of shifting to Spain? Right here’s what you have to find out about developer salaries

This article was originally published on .cult by Melina Zacharia and Luis Minvielle. .cult is a Berlin-based community platform for developers. We write about all things career-related, make original documentaries, and share heaps of other untold developer stories from around the world.

The Spanish job market is booming — and so are opportunities for developers. After a turbulent 2020, official sources pointed out that the resuscitation of the services sector and the overall uptick in economic activity will positively impact employment and lower the unemployment rate in Spain in the coming years. The government projected a 7% growth in the economy by 2022-2023, and recent probes into the job market show that employment likely increased by 2.7% in 2022.

How much do software developers earn in Spain in 2023?

The average salary for software developers in Spain during 2023 was €53.5k, while the expected salary was closer to €56.4k. This means that developers in Spain are making about 5% less than what they initially expected.

Average offered vs. expected per role in Spain

According to our insights, average salaries offered and expected for each role differed. For instance, the average offered salary for backend developers was €53k, but their average expected salary was €53.3k.

Spain – Average offered and expected salary by role in Spain

In this chart, green indicates that the salary offer is higher than the expectation, while red means that it’s lower.

Some roles demonstrate higher discrepancies between the offered and expected salaries. For example, DevOps engineers expect to earn almost €24,000 more than what companies offer them, while fullstack developers expect to earn slightly less.

Average developer salary in Spain vs. DACH and the Netherlands

Comparing Spain to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland, we found that Spain’s average  salaries for software developers lagged behind.

The software developer salary gap between Spain and other European countries, especially the DACH region, is significant. Developers in the DACH region and in the Netherlands average a €74,500 yearly salary, whereas Spain falls somewhere in the middle, with an average salary of €53,500 per year.

What’s the reason behind salary discrepancies across Europe?

According to Numbeo, a website that compares living costs across countries, Spain has a lower cost of living index than Switzerland, Germany, or the Netherlands. For example, the rent prices in Spain are 64.75% lower than in Switzerland, 41.63% lower than in Germany, and 45.62% lower than in the Netherlands. This means that developers in Spain can afford a similar or better quality of life with a lower salary than their counterparts in other countries.

Is this salary gap likely to change in the future? It’s hard to predict how the software developer market will evolve in the upcoming years, but some trends suggest that it might become more balanced. For example, remote work has become more common and accepted, and Spain recently launched a digital nomad visa. Moreover, the European Union has been promoting digital transformation and innovation across its member states, which could increase the demand and value of software developers.

Spain offers lower salaries for software developers than other European countries, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a worse place to work. The cost of living is also lower in Spain, and the quality of life is soaring high.

Most interview invites in Spain by role

In Spain, companies have a greater demand for backend developers. According to our data, backend developers received the biggest share of all interview invites on the Honeypot platform. Frontend developers took second place, while fullstack developers and DevOps engineers followed. DevOps engineers are increasingly in demand across Europe and Spain is no different. It’s still new enough that it doesn’t beat the more traditional roles, but things are evolving fast and the picture will probably look different in a couple of years.

  • Backend developer 54%
  • Frontend developer 22%
  • Fullstack developer 10.7%
  • DevOps engineer 9.7%

Backend developers are highly sought-after in Spain. That could be because many companies are developing or migrating their web services to cloud platforms or microservices architectures, which require scalable and reliable backend solutions.

Gender pay gap in Spain

Spain had one of the most significant gender pay gaps in Europe. The difference in offered salaries between male and female developers ranged from 5% to 18.6%.

Average developer salary by gender and years of experience

Looking at years of experience, we observed that male developers with 0-2 years of experience were offered an average salary of €49,200. That’s 10% more than what their female counterparts are being offered. The gap narrows as the years of experience increase.

Spain – Average offered salary by gender and years of experience

Spain – Average offered and expected salary by role and gender

Green indicates that the salary offer is higher than the expectation, while red that it’s lower.

The largest gap was found in fullstack roles, where male devs earned 18.6% more than their female counterparts. The only exception was frontend developers, where women earned 3% more than men, but this might be due to the fact that 85% of the offers were extended to male developers.

Salary expectation by gender

Our findings show that, in Spain, women tend to expect less money than their male counterparts. For example, female backend developers expect €50,100, while male backend developers expect €52,100. This gap in expectations could be a great opportunity for companies to enter the conversation and bring forth a positive change that would put things on the right track.

Regarding gender diversity, LinkedIn data collected in 2021 showed a stark disparity: 13% of software engineers in Spain identified themselves as female, while 87% identified as male. This aligns with our previous findings on the gender pay gap, confirming that a lot of progress needs to be made in closing the gender gap in Spain’s tech sector.

Salary by language & location

Our data shows that Spanish companies value language skills. Spanish-speaking developers received 54% of all interview invites. Additionally, Spanish companies tended to look inward for developers, with 81% of interview invites going to developers already living in Spain.

Spain – Interview invites by talent location

Why do companies in Spain show a preference for local developers? One explanation could be the fact that developers from outside Spain have higher salary expectations. Another reason could be the cultural fit and the work-life balance that Spanish companies are looking for.

The importance of language as a skill for software developers in Spain is backed by an independent investigation from a tech recruiter, where out of 51,000 software engineers working in Spain, 33,000 described their English proficiency level as ‘Professional Working,’ ‘Full Professional,’ ‘Native,’ or ‘Bilingual’ on their LinkedIn profiles.

Most in-demand tech stacks in Spain

Our data suggest that the top five tech stacks in Spain were JavaScript, Typescript, Reactjs, Nodejs, and Docker.

Spain – Most in-demand tech stacks in Spain

It’s worth noting that Typescript and JavaScript took the top spots — and in a 1-2 fashion. Typescript is a superset–subset of JavaScript, and JavaScript is the most popular programming language in the world. The finding suggests that companies are looking for talent that can expand JS’s capabilities with more brawniness.

Since TypeScript might be more suitable for large-scale applications than JavaScript, the superset’s surprising demand might imply companies consider it a necessary skill for building up AI-backed projects, such as machine learning models.

Methodology

Our 2023 data is averaged from 2022 and 2023 to ensure accuracy, given the year is not yet over. The expected salary data is determined from developer profiles on the Honeypot platform, while offered salary data is based on a company’s initial offer during the interview process. It doesn’t reflect the final negotiated and contracted amount. We use an external library to determine gender based on the individual’s first name.

A special prosecutor in the Dominican Republic is investigating a second formal complaint that Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco engaged in a relationship with a minor, the latest of three accusations against the 22-year-old, sources told ESPN’s Juan Recio.

After the first complaint against Franco was filed July 17, another girl alleged to the specialized prosecutor’s office for boys, girls and adolescents that she had a relationship with Franco as a minor, sources said. While the third girl has not spoken to authorities, they are still investigating her alleged relationship with Franco, sources said.

Prosecutors from the division, which investigates crimes committed against children, hope to speak with Franco in the coming weeks, sources told ESPN. In the D.R., the age of consent is 18. Anyone over 18 who engages in a sexual relationship with someone younger than 18 can be charged criminally.

Major League Baseball placed Franco, an All-Star, on paid administrative leave Aug. 22, pending the results of a league investigation into the allegations. He last played Aug. 12, the day before social media posts alleged an inappropriate relationship. The league started its investigation that night, and Franco was placed on the restricted list from Aug. 13 to 21.

The league often waits until a criminal investigation is concluded to discipline players under its joint policy with the MLB Players Association. The prosecutor’s investigation into Franco is expected to continue well beyond the end of the season, sources said.

MLB, the MLBPA and Franco’s United States-based lawyer, Jay Reisinger, declined to comment.

There’s No Wind on the Moon, So How Does Mud Shift and Swirl So Shortly?

The last place to look for windstorms is on the Moon. Yet, it has swirls on its surface that look like the wind put them there. Since there’s no atmosphere on the Moon, planetary scientists had to look for another cause. It turns out there’s a connection to local magnetic anomalies and an interplay with lunar topography.

Swirls are albedo patterns on the Moon’s surface and they’ve kept planetary scientists debating their cause for years. They’re visible from Earth, although it wasn’t until 1966 that the NASA Lunar Orbiter II managed to get a clear image of one. One of the largest, Reiner Gamma, is visible through an amateur telescope.

A new study by scientists at the Planetary Science Institute, led by planetary scientist Deborah Domingue, examined the texture of the surface where these swirls appear. They looked at a spot in Mare Ingenii using photometric analysis to determine the cause. That technique takes into account how material scatters light and how those scattering properties change as the illumination (angle of the sunlight to the surface) and viewing (position of your spacecraft) geometries change.

Changing Ideas about Lunar Swirls

Over the years, lunar observers have come up with several explanations for these weird markings. Cometary impacts might send swirls of dust across the surface. Such collisions might also explain the magnetic anomalies associated with the swirls.

It’s also highly likely that the solar wind plays a role. It’s a frequent occurrence and could explain why some swirls seem to change more quickly over time. In this case, a magnetic anomaly protects light-colored regolith (lunar surface materials), which could be exposed silicates. This explains the swirling pattern, as shielded material would be brighter than materials outside the magnetic field. However, the spectral properties don’t always match those of shielded materials.

It could be that magnetic fields segregate and trap electrostatically levitated dust. It’s the smallest size of all lunar dust and made of minerals brighter than the larger sizes of dust grains. Those bigger ones are more difficult to move electrostatically. The darker dust includes small inclusions of nanometer-scale iron. It’s more likely to get magnetically separated and deposited in the dark areas of the swirls. Ironically, one way to produce this nanometer-scale iron is by solar wind radiation.

Related to that is an idea that says weak electric fields created by interactions with the magnetic anomalies and solar wind plasma could attract or repel fine dust particles. Another theory, proposed by scientists in 2022 says that topography may also play a role in the placement of the swirls.

Using Photometric Analysis

What the team found with their photometric analysis study is that the grain-to-grain roughness was similar across the swirl region. However, the soil in the dark lanes has grains with a more complicated structure. In addition, they found that the composition between the bright and dark areas is different, following the expectations from dust collection and segregation.

Domingue thinks they may have a better feel for the origins of these strange swirls now. “The evidence, which includes recent correlation of topographic lows with the bright areas of the swirls, tells a story that more than one process is involved in their formation”, she said. “We definitely see evidence that the bright areas are less radiated, but this doesn’t explain all the properties of the swirls. Something else is operating, and the textures suggest dust collection and segregation are part of the tale.”

3DMakerpro’s Seal pocket-sized scanner is to your 3D prints

3DMakerpro

This content was produced in partnership with 3DMakerpro.

3D printing truly is amazing, because you can create virtually anything, as long as you have the blueprints or digital 3D models. But while there is an excellent community behind the creation of these 3D models, and always new items, gadgets, and tools to print, you can be somewhat limited in the sense that you can’t just take an item and print it without a little bit of extra work. If you don’t have the skills to create a digital design — or digital copy of an object — you’ll have to wait for the community to put something together, and it may not always match what you’re wanting to create. What if there was something so much easier than that, however? What if there was a tool or device that could create remarkably accurate scans of an object and then translate that into a digital format — one you can reprint in a 3D printer? There is, from 3DMakerpro, and it’s called the Seal — or Seal Lite in the alternative model.

Promising the “ease of scan” and combined with the “art of detail,” the 3DMakerpro Seal and Seal Lite will effectively scan an item or object with supreme detail and accuracy — a superior accuracy of 0.01mm, which is a first in the consumer-grade 3D scanner industry. It supports full color and whole texture capture in high-definition, thanks to a 24-bit high-quality color CMOS image sensor and texture camera. For you, it means that your model scans will truly come to life, including all nuanced details from material textures to fine elements. A scan of a toy dragon, for example, will feature all scales, colors, and fine details.

The Seal scanners are pocket-sized, about the size of your average pack of gum, so you can take them anywhere and they work even in bright sunlight. AI smart technology and the power grip, with an innovative gimbal, ensure you get the best scans possible no matter the environment. Plus, anti-shake optical lenses allow you to scan like a pro with minimal interference, the scan will always be stable even if you or the environment are not. The 3DMakerpro Seal and Seal Lite are modern marvels, at least in the world of 3D printing and digital design, and there’s a lot more to talk about, so keep reading. If you want to learn more, you can also head to the dedicated 3DMakerpro Seal page using the button below — pre-orders start on August 29th via IndieGoGo.

What else can the Seal and Seal Lite do?

3DMakerpro Seal in hand lifestyle image.3DMakerpro

Scanning nearly any object or item with remarkable accuracy is one thing, but offering the advanced features that 3DMakerpro’s Seal and Seal Lite do, that’s on a whole different level. For starters, the Seal uses blue light, which has a shorter wavelength when compared to traditional LED and NIR light sources. In short, it means that the scanner produces more precise structured light, for more accurate and detailed scans with a higher resolution. So, when you’re scanning small toys, items, or objects with intricate details, textures, edges, and tiny concavities, it’s all captured in the digital blueprint.

You don’t have to use markers as you might expect with similar devices. The Seal can identify a target object, including edges, without a single marker thanks to AI visual tracking. It can also do this in several scanning modes, like Turntable, Handheld, Turntable+Handheld, and more. If you decide you do want a turntable, you can employ a professional-grade multi-axis turntable to generate multi-angle model scanning quickly and easily.

3DMakerPro Seal scan accuracy with parrot figurine.3DMakerpro

Professional software called JMStudio allows you to get as much into the weeds as you want. It’s rookie-friendly, so if this is your first time using something like this you don’t have to worry. If you’re an advanced or expert user, you can take the reins and customize various settings. You can be as hands-on or hands-off as you want.

Thanks to a 10,000 mAh battery, you’ll get up to 240 continuous minutes of scanning time. So, if you’re out and about and you see something you want to scan, you can do that at any time. The battery should last for a long while too, allowing you to scan multiple items if it comes to that. When you’re at your next D&D session and need to get a quick copy of your roleplay figurines you have all the power you need in your pocket.

The Seal and Seal Lite: 3D scanning wonders

3DMakerpro Seal setup to scan with accessories and background.3DMakerpro

If you’re trying to scan a toy, figurine, or something like a dental model, the ideal object size is about 100 mm (3.93 inches). If you’re trying to scan a key or metal part that’s similar you’ll want an item that’s at least 50 mm (1.96 inches). Finally, something smaller like a chess piece, tiny figurine, or feature-rich ring will need to be about 10mm in size (0.39 inches). Why do these measurements matter? Because with an accuracy of 0.01mm to 0.02mm (Seal Lite), and a working distance of 100 to 200mm it means the Seal scanners are impressively accurate when compared to other, similar devices.

The major difference between the base model Seal Lite and the premium Seal is that the Lite captures in mono, and is made of a tough plastic. Meanwhile, the Seal offers 24-bit color and texture capture and is made of a durable aluminum alloy. Both utilize USB-C to connect to smart accessories and beyond.

Let’s recap. The 3DMakerpro Seal and Seal Lite allow you to capture, with full texture and color, nearly any item or object, allowing you to 100% restore items or create new fabrications with a 3D printer. Both formats of the Seal are portable, with a built-in battery, and a total weight of about 200 grams — perfect for fitting inside your pocket, a backpack, handbag, 0r day bag. You can take them with you anywhere, and begin scanning at any time to have a fully-detailed and working 3D model of whatever it is you’re looking at. Pretty amazing, right?

Pre-orders for the Seal will launch on August 29th, at 9 AM EDT. Get ready for a whole new world of 3D designs and creations, folks.

HHS calls for alleviating marijuana restrictions

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has recommended reclassifying marijuana as a lower-risk drug, which would in turn ease restrictions on the budding business, a spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Administration told CNBC on Wednesday.

Marijuana is currently a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it’s deemed to have no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Despite being legalized for recreational use in nearly half of states, marijuana’s federal classification alongside drugs such as heroin and LSD has hindered the industry’s growth.

After enjoying a sales surge during the Covid-19 pandemic, the industry is in free fall as investors turn away and capital dries up. The industry has also been barred from accessing most banking services, or from being traded across state lines, resulting in a glut of cannabis in many states and a drop in prices.

A federal reclassification could potentially expand the market for marijuana, which is a multibillion-dollar industry in the U.S. and a cash crop in many newly legalized states.

The news sent shares of several cannabis companies, including Canopy Growth, Tilray Brands and Cronos Group, jumping Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to DEA officials, the HHS called for marijuana to be reclassified under the Controlled Substances Act, a DEA spokesperson told CNBC. Bloomberg, which first reported the recommendation, said the letter called for marijuana to be reclassified as a Schedule III drugs, defined as drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence.

The DEA, which regulates controlled substances, has the final authority to reschedule marijuana. The agency will now initiate a review of the drug, the DEA spokesperson said.

A lack of federal regulation has meant cannabis businesses in states where recreational sales are legal still can’t access traditional banking services or institutional capital. A congressional bill called the Secure and Fair Enforcement Banking Act, or SAFE, would lift such restrictions but hasn’t made it through the Senate, despite passing in the House several times.

Patrick Rea, managing director at cannabis investment firm Poseidon Garden Ventures, said his fund is “cautiously optimistic” for the changes a reclassification could bring to the industry.

“Certainly, moving cannabis off of Schedule 1 is the right decision and long overdue,” Rea said in a statement. “Though a full descheduling would be preferred and likely most appropriate for cannabis, we welcome smart decisions and progress towards full legalization and regulation in the legal cannabis industry.”

Correction: A spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Administration told CNBC the agency received a letter from the Department of Health and Human Services calling for marijuana to be reclassified under the Controlled Substances Act. A previous version of this story mischaracterized the spokesperson’s statement.

Paris Jackson Shares A Video Message Addressing Michael Jackson Super Fans

On Tuesday, Paris Jackson took to Instagram to share a video to the critics who “abused, manipulated, and harassed” her for not posting her late father on his birthday. In the video, she explained that when Michael Jackson was alive, he would “hate anybody acknowledging his birthday” or “wishing him a happy birthday.”

“He actually didn’t want us to even know when his birthday was, because he didn’t want us to throw a party or anything like that…”

Jackson went on to explain that “social media is apparently how people express their love and affection these days.”

“…and if you don’t wish someone a’‘Happy Birthday’ via social media, it apparently means that you don’t love them, that you don’t care about them,” she explained sarcastically.

The 25-year-old then went on to admit that there has been times when she doesn’t “post anything” for her late father’s birthday. In these instances, the public seems to “measure” her love for her father based off that.

The 25-Year-Old Includes A Video Of Her Performance On Her Father’s Birthday For The Critics

As Jackson continued, she explained that she “made” her critics “a little video” which she hopes they “enjoy.” The screen then cuts to her perfomance earlier that day where she acknowledged her father’s birthday and paid tribute to his life and career.

“It’s also my dad’s birthday and he would have been 65 years old today and he put 50 years of blood, sweat, and tears and love and passion into doing what he did so I can stand up here… and scream into a microphone. So I owe everything to him…”

As the video cut back to Jackson, she explained that if someone is “an MJ super fan” and they would like to “do something” that Michael Jackson would have loved — “which is not celebrating his birthday” — then they can feel inspired to get involved with philanthropic efforts in their community and for the globe.

“There’s always ways to get involved with raising awareness for climate change, doing stuff for the environment, animal rights activism — these were things that he loved and was very interested in, and I can’t speak for him, because I’m a different person and I don’t know, but I’m sure he would have loved that…”

Additionally, Jackson included a short caption along with her video.

“full video 🙂 please don’t use a man you have never met as an excuse to abuse, manipulate, and harass his daughter (who you also have never met).

‘I tend to be very gentle’: how teachers are navigating climate change in the classroom

Climate change education is increasingly seen as an essential part of schooling.

The main international test of 15-year-olds’ progress (which Australia participates in) has just announced the next round of testing will include environmental knowledge alongside English, maths and science literacy.

Australia’s national curriculum (updated last year under the Morrison government) barely mentions climate change. But as a signatory to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement, we have committed to develop climate change education policies.

Regardless of what policies or curricula say, our climate is changing. As scientists keep reminding us, urgent action is required.

In our new research, we interviewed nine primary and high school teachers about how they include climate change in their teaching.

We found teachers are becoming the bearers of bad news in the classroom as young people learn about the climate crisis, and they need better training and more support.

I tend to be very gentle and very careful or I’m very focused on hope.

If there’s one thing which truly upsets me about climate activists, it’s the way they try to indoctrinate kids with their point of view, to “prepare” the next generation for climate change.

Adults have the life experience to reject their politicised climate nonsense, or least be wary of their evidence free claims of climate doom. But climate doom packaged up as education is being inflicted on defenceless kids, who are at a stage in life where they are less skeptical about “information” provided by authority figures.

I also feel sorry for teachers trapped in this web of climate deceit, who are being forced to teach politicised scientific viewpoints they don’t support. Teachers in this situation have an impossible choice, if they stay they can try to minimise the harm, but still have to mislead their students to hang on to their jobs, but if they leave, they might be replaced by a climate fanatic.

There is evidence that such “climate” lessons are doing real harm;

In 2019, Dr. Alex Wodak, a high profile Australian expert on drug rehabilitation, named fear of climate change as one of the major problems driving young people into the kind of despair which leads to addiction to hard drugs, during his testimony to the NSW Government Ice Inquiry.

An excerpt of the transcript is below;

First, the threshold step is redefining drugs as primarily a health and social issue rather than primarily a law enforcement issue. Second, drug treatment has to be expanded and improved until it reaches the same level as other health services. Third, all penalties for personal drug use and possession have to be scrapped.

Fourth, as much of the drug market as possible has to be regulated while recognising that part of the drug market is already regulated, such a methadone treatment, needle and syringe programs, medically supervised injecting centres. It will, of course, never be possible to regulate the entire drug market. We have regulated parts of the drug market before. Edible opium was taxed and regulated in Australia until 1906 and in the United States Coca-Cola contained cocaine until 1903.

Fifth, efforts to reduce the demand for powerful psychoactive drugs in Australia have had limited benefit and require a new focus. Unless and until young Australians feel optimistic about their future, demand for drugs will remain strong. Young people, understandably, want more certainty about their future prospects, including climate, education, jobs and housing affordability. Change will be slow and incremental, like all social policy reform.

As Herb Stein, as adviser to President Nixon said:
Things that cannot go on forever don’t.

Drug prohibition cannot go on forever and will be replaced by libertarian paternalism. Thank you.

What can parents do about this?

If your child starts becoming distressed by climate lessons at school, you have to try something. If your child swallows the message of despair, and becomes convinced there is no hope, there is a real risk they will turn to hard drugs or other self destructive or high risk behaviour. You have to intervene before this happens.

Other than voting for different politicians, which I hope you are already doing, some pushback is possible.

The lessons cannot be eliminated from the curriculum of most jurisdictions except at the ballot box, but how they are taught can be modified. Even the most climate enthusiast teacher is sensitive to being accused of doing harm and causing distress, and likely actually cares about the kids – many of them, even the real climate enthusiasts, genuinely believe they are helping by providing necessary knowledge to prepare kids for the future. So if your kids become distressed, there is room to demand more sensitive handling of the subject matter.

Of course, the best intervention is to keep talking to your kids. So long as you have a good relationship with your kids, you are the ultimate authority figure in their lives, at least until they grow up, and can do a lot to mitigate any damage done by other authority figures.

We can’t strip the indoctrination from the curriculum until voters wake up and toss the fanatics out of office, but we can, through talking to our kids, do our best to mitigate the harm and shield our kids from green agents of despair.

Crypto large Binance sidesteps Belgium ban by redirecting customers to Poland

After being banned from Belgium in June, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance, has resumed operations in the country by redirecting customers through its entity in Poland.

Binance said its Polish division would comply with the “regulatory obligations” for residents of Belgium, who can now expect an uninterrupted experience on the crypto exchange platform.

However, in keeping with the regulatory requirements, Belgian customers will need to comply with the terms defined by Binance Poland. This may include submitting specific KYC (Know Your Customer) documents to meet the stipulations of Polish regulators.

The move comes roughly two months after Belgium’s Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) ordered Binance to cease all services in the country, citing violations of anti-money laundering requirements. The main issue was that it was serving Belgian users from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

“Despite several requests for information made to Binance, the latter has not been able to demonstrate to the requisite legal standard that the legal entities that carry out the services of the above-mentioned type in Belgium are in fact based in the European Economic Area,” said FSMA.

Nevertheless, the watchdog gave Binance a way out by suggesting it could operate in Belgium via a “legal entity governed by the law of another member state of the European Economic Area [EEA] that is duly authorised by its home member state.” That includes Poland.

Binance was founded in Shanghai but later moved to Tokyo and then Malta, and now has a holding company based in the Cayman Islands. While the global crypto exchange has sidestepped this latest hurdle, it has faced a number of regulatory entanglements since its launch.

Binance halted its services for Dutch users in July, citing a failure to obtain a virtual asset service provider license. In the same month, it dropped its license application in Germany as the country’s financial watchdog was reportedly unwilling to grant the request. In addition, Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao are facing a lawsuit from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

Until the EU implements the recently passed Markets in Crypto-Asset (MiCA) Act, the crypto industry remains largely unregulated in the bloc. MiCA will be the world’s first comprehensive set of rules governing cryptocurrencies and aims to regulate virtual currencies much like regular money.

The Indianapolis Colts did not find what it felt was a fair value offer for running back Jonathan Taylor and it is not trading its All-Pro running back Tuesday, league sources told ESPN.

With no trade materializing Tuesday, Taylor is expected to remain on the physically unable to perform list, making him ineligible to play the first four games of the season.

The Denver Broncos traded tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2025 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Denver had planned to waive Okwuegbunam, but the Eagles were interested in trading for him.

The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins have swapped cornerbacks that could be in need of fresh starts. The Dolphins sent 2020 first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene to the Cowboys for 2021 second-round pick Kelvin Joseph as teams prepared their initial 53-man rosters on Tuesday, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Igbinoghene started just five of 32 games in his time with Miami, intercepting one pass. Joseph had just three starts in 26 games with the Cowboys with no interceptions. Igbinoghene is set to make $2.144 million in the final year of his rookie deal, while Joseph is set to make $1.367 million and is signed through next year. Igbinoghene was inactive for 14 games the last two seasons, while Joseph was a core special teamer for the Cowboys, hardly what was expected when he was selected No. 44 overall in the 2021 draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded offensive lineman/fullback Kendrick Green to the Houston Texans, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. Green was drafted in the third round in 2021.

Though Green was primarily a guard in college, the Steelers initially moved him to center, where he started 15 games his rookie season. The move was a rocky one, and Green moved back to guard. He was inactive every game last season after losing a training camp battle for left guard to Kevin Dotson, who the Steelers traded to the L.A. Rams on Sunday, and he was firmly on the bubble after a training camp where the Steelers also experimented with him at fullback in short yardage situations.

The Texans have dealt with injuries on the interior of the offensive line. Kenyon Green, a first-round pick last year, has dealt with injuries throughout training camp. During the preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints, he injured his right arm during the second quarter.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded a sixth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr., according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Farrell, a fourth-round pick by the Raiders in 2022, played in nine games as a rookie last season and had 12 tackles with two QB hits and 1.5 stuffs. He is added to a Chiefs team without Chris Jones, who continues his holdout, and Charles Omenihu who was suspended by the league for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy for the first six games of the season.

The New England Patriots have traded veteran kicker Nick Folk to the Tennessee Titans for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick, a league source confirmed to ESPN. Folk, who turns 39 in November, enters his 16th NFL season and is tied for 23rd on the all-time list with 353 career field goals. He ranks fifth among active kickers.

The Denver Broncos have traded for New Orleans Saints kicker Wil Lutz, team sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday. The Broncos released Brandon McManus in May and when camp opened, Elliott Fry and Brett Maher were competing for the job.

The New York Giants have traded for Buffalo Bills defensive end Boogie Basham, sources confirm to ESPN.

The Carolina Panthers acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-rounders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Smith-Marsette was originally drafted in the fifth-round in 2021 by the Minnesota Vikings. He has six career regular-season catches.

The Chicago Bears are looking for some more offensive line depth and got it in the form of veteran guard Dan Feeney, who was traded from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2024, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. With Teven Jenkins “week to week” with a leg injury, Feeney provides versatility and insurance.

The Cleveland Browns are switching kickers less than two weeks before the season opener. On Monday, the Browns acquired Dustin Hopkins from the Los Angeles Chargers, a source told ESPN, ending Cade York’s tenure as Cleveland’s kicker. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Browns sent a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chargers in return.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett, through agent Drew Rosenhaus, is gauging the market for the potential to play more elsewhere, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday. The Eagles plan to keep Barnett but understand their deep pass-rush roster could limit playing time.

Aug. 27

The New England Patriots have acquired offensive tackle Vederian Lowe from the Minnesota Vikings for a sixth-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Kevin Seifert and Mike Reiss. Lowe played in four games last season and was going to be a backup with the Vikings this year.

With a surplus of depth on the interior of the offensive line, the Pittsburgh Steelers are sending former fourth-round pick Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams, sources told ESPN on Sunday. The Steelers acquire the Rams’ 2024 fourth-round and 2025 fifth-round pick, while the Rams get the Steelers’ 2024 fifth-round and 2025 sixth-round pick, sources said.

The New England Patriots have shipped backup running back Pierre Strong Jr. to the Cleveland Browns for offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr., according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Strong was a fourth-round pick in last year’s draft, while Wheatley went undrafted in 2020. Strong had been projected to be fourth on the Pats’ running back depth chart.

Wheatley, the son of former Michigan standout and NFL running back Tyrone Wheatley, potentially helps address arguably the Patriots’ greatest need. Injuries and inconsistency on the offensive line have been a top storyline in training camp and the preseason and Wheatley gives them a developmental prospect with size and strength (6-foot-6, 320 pounds).

Date: Aug. 26

Defensive end Trevis Gipson has received permission from the Chicago Bears to seek a trade, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Gipson had seven sacks in 2021 and could be looking to get back into a 3-4 scheme.

Aug. 25

The San Francisco 49ers are sending quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The trade comes after the Niners made the decision earlier this week to give Sam Darnold the No. 2 job behind Brock Purdy despite trading three first-round picks to draft Lance third overall in 2021.

Aug. 24

The Arizona Cardinals have traded for quarterback Joshua Dobbs in a deal with the Cleveland Browns, a source told ESPN. The Browns will get back the fifth-round selection that Arizona had in a previous deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source. And Cleveland will also send over a seventh-rounder to the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals are sending offensive tackle Josh Jones — who had nine starts last year — and a seventh-round draft pick to the Houston Texans for a fifth-round pick, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract. The deal is pending a physical.

The Arizona Cardinals have moved on from 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Simmons with about two weeks left until Week 1. Arizona traded Simmons, a converted linebacker, to the New York Giants for a 2024 seventh-round pick.

Aug. 23

Jonathan Taylor could be a step closer to getting his wish, but time is of the essence. The Indianapolis Colts have given Taylor until Tuesday to find a suitable trade after authorizing the star running back earlier this week to engage with other teams in search of a trade partner. Six teams have inquired about Taylor’s availability, and two of them have engaged the Colts with offers, including the Miami Dolphins, a source told ESPN on Wednesday.

The situation remains fluid, and it is unclear whether a team is willing to meet the Colts’ trade demands, which have been described by sources as being a first-round pick or a package of picks worth similar value.

July 19

Date: July 19

The New York Jets agreed to trade wide receiver Denzel Mims to the Detroit Lions. The Lions also receive a 2025 seventh-round pick in the deal, while the Jets get a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick, according to the source. The Lions later waived Mims a month after he was acquired. Mims suffered an ankle injury during a recent training camp practice and then suffered a calf injury during his rehab, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. Mims will become an unrestricted free agent.
