5. Certified Scrum Developer

The Scrum Alliance is a nonprofit organization that provides training and certifications in agile development. Scrum developer certification is less about testing and demonstrating your technical skills as a developer and more about demonstrating your soft skills and your ability to work in an agile team framework.

This training and certification could be a big step for developers looking to acquire or improve their skills in leading and managing teams. There are currently a number of Scrum Master roles in companies across the Netherlands, for example at JEX software agency in Rotterdam, IT company Capgemini in Eindhoven and Utrecht University.

Certification requires at least 14 hours of training followed by an assessment. Prices vary depending on the course you enroll in. The certification is valid for two years and can be extended for a fee.

6. Certified Software Developer

This professional software development certification is issued by the IEEE, a member-driven professional development organization. The online exam covers software requirements, design, construction and testing in 160 questions and lasts three hours.

Although not required, test takers are recommended to have at least two years of college education in computer science or a related discipline and an additional two years of professional experience. Taking the exam costs up to $485 (€448), with discounted rates for students and IEEE members.

The cost and experience level present higher hurdles for this certification, but it enjoys the respect of the IEEE, which claims that its certifications serve as a benchmark for hiring by companies such as Siemens, IBM and Oracle.

7. Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional

The CSSLP certification is issued by (ISC)2, a professional association specializing in the training and development of cybersecurity professionals, and is aimed at software developers who want to improve their security skills. Emphasis is placed on authentication, authorization and auditing skills. To qualify, candidates must have four years of professional experience in software development.

The four-hour exam costs 555 euros and consists of 175 multiple-choice questions. Cybersecurity is an area where accreditation is particularly important, and this (ISC)2 certification is even recognized by the US Department of Defense.

Good day! Use of a popular class of weight loss and diabetes medications is more common than ever.

About one in eight U.S. adults have used a GLP-1 drug at some point in their life, according to a survey released last week by health research organization KFF. About half of these Americans, or about 6% of U.S. adults, currently use one of these treatments.

This includes Novo Nordisk's weight loss injection Wegovy and diabetes drug Ozempic, along with Eli LillyZepbound, the weight loss drug Zepbound, and its diabetes counterpart Mounjaro.

The survey shows that despite temporary shortages, a large proportion of Americans are taking the drugs because of continued demand. The treatments have become increasingly popular in the last year, despite high costs and limited insurance coverage.

Let’s dive into some of the data.

Most adults, more than 60%, who took GLP-1 said they took it partly to treat chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. This includes 39% who took GLP-1 solely to treat a chronic condition and 23% who took it both to treat a chronic condition and to lose weight.

Meanwhile, 38% of adults who had taken GLP-1 reported using it specifically to lose weight.

Notably, GLP-1 use differed by race and ethnicity.

  • About 18% of black adults have used one of these drugs
  • About 14% of Hispanic adults have used them
  • About 10% of white adults have taken one of these medications

Black and Hispanic adults in the U.S. have higher rates of obesity than white adults, according to KFF analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

There are also differences according to age groups, according to the survey.

Nearly 20% of adults ages 50 to 64 reported having taken GLP-1, which is higher than the proportions reported by other age groups.

However, younger adults were more likely than people age 65 and older to report taking GLP-1 specifically for weight loss. KFF said this may be because the federal Medicare program does not cover prescription weight loss medications.

Medicare can only cover weight loss treatments if they are approved in the U.S. for additional health benefits, such as treating diabetes and reducing the risk of heart disease.

But the majority of adults, regardless of whether they have taken a GLP-1, said Medicare should cover the cost of the drugs when prescribed for weight loss and for people who are overweight, according to the KFF survey.

Still, more than half of health-insured adults who took GLP-1 reported that their health insurance covered some of the cost of these medications. Meanwhile, 24% said their insurance covered the entire cost of the drug, and 19% said they paid the entire cost themselves.

This survey's data points could change in the future if GLP-1 is approved for new purposes such as sleep apnea and fatty liver disease, which would increase pressure on health insurance companies to cover them. Stay tuned for our coverage of the use of these medications.

Google DeepMind announces new AI model that can predict the structure of molecules

Pavlo Gonchar | Light rocket | Getty Images

Google On Wednesday announced a new artificial intelligence model called AlphaFold 3 that can supposedly illustrate the complex interactions and structures of “all molecules of life.” The company hopes the model will transform drug discovery and biological research.

According to a Google blog post, AlphaFold 3 predicts the shapes and behaviors of large biomolecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins, as well as small molecules commonly used in drugs. When prompted with a list of molecules, the model can show how they all fit together by generating their common 3D structure.

Modeling molecules like proteins has historically been a tedious task for researchers. According to Google, experimental protein structure prediction can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and take years to complete. As a result, Google said AlphaFold 3 could help accelerate drug discovery and genomic research and contribute to new scientific discoveries such as “biologically renewable materials and more resilient crops.”

The model was developed by Google DeepMind, which researches and builds AI systems, and Isomorphic Labs, which explores applications of AI in drug development. Because AlphaFold 3 encompasses a broad group of biomolecules, it goes beyond the capabilities of AlphaFold 2, which can only predict the structures of proteins.

DeepMind announced AlphaFold 2 in 2020. The model has since been used by “millions” of researchers to develop cancer treatments, malaria vaccines and enzymes, Google said.

According to the blog post, AlphaFold 3 is able to predict the interactions between proteins and other molecules at least 50% better than other existing methods, and the model doubled the prediction accuracy for other interaction categories.

“We believe this new technology has the potential to transform biological research,” said Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, in a LinkedIn post.

Google said scientists will be able to access the “majority” of AlphaFold 3’s features for free through its new AlphaFold server. The company launched the server as part of its “ongoing commitment to sharing the benefits of AlphaFold,” the blog post said.

Researchers from Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs published their results in the journal Nature.

Perseverance completes over 1,000 days on Mars. Nonetheless robust

I remember when Perseverance was launched in February 2021, traveled to the solar system and landed on Mars. In the entire time since its arrival and after 1000 days of exploration, it has collected 23 samples from different geological areas within the Jezero crater. There was once an ancient lake in the area, and if there is evidence of ancient (fossilized) life anywhere on Mars, it is here.

It was July 30, 2020, when a gigantic Atlas V-541 rocket fired from the launch pad at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The Perseverance rover was on board on its way to Mars. It arrived about seven months later, entered the Martian atmosphere and landed successfully using a complex sequence of parachutes, retrorockets and, for the first time, a sky crane to lower it from a hovering platform. Its primary purpose on Mars was to study the geology, climate, and atmospheric conditions as a precursor to human exploration.

A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket carrying NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance rover lifts off from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Thursday, July 30, 2020, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Perseverance Rover is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, a long-term project to robotically explore the Red Planet. Image credit: (NASA/Joel Kowsky)

The landing site, Jezero Crater, was chosen because previous orbital studies provided clear evidence of an ancient lake that once filled the crater. Water is believed to be a key component for the development of life. So if there had been a body of water, the chances for life to develop would have been greater. Studying the rocks here is like looking through the history books, as they preserve signs of ancient life and also ancient environmental conditions.

The crater, like most other craters in the solar system, was formed by some form of impact event. In the case of Jezero, it was an asteroid impact about 4 billion years ago. Upon arriving at the crater, it soon became apparent that the soil was composed of igneous rock, formed from a vast underground magma chamber and brought to the surface through volcanic activity. Since then, other types of rocks made of sand and mud have been found, proving the presence of water in Mars' distant past.

By the time Perseverance reached the 1,000th anniversary of its exploration of the Red Planet, it had collected the rock samples, safely packaged them, and largely completed its exploration of the ancient lakebed. In particular, a sample called “Lefroy Bay” was found to contain fine-grained silica. This material is commonly found on Earth and is known to preserve fossils. Another sample contains phosphate, which is certainly linked to biological processes on Earth. Both contain carbon, which can be used to study environmental conditions since the rock was formed.

Jezero Crater is a large site, 45 kilometers in diameter, so deciding where to collect the samples was a challenge. Once a target location was identified, Perseverance would first use its abrasion tool to abrade the surface, then use onboard instruments such as PIXL, the Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry. The instruments on board are capable of both detecting microscopic, fossil-like structures and identifying chemical changes left behind by ancient microbes. Unfortunately, while Perseverance has achieved amazing things to date, the discovery of signs of life points to the rover.

LeBron James is again in Cleveland for Celtics-Cavaliers Recreation 4

May 13, 2024, 7:50 p.m. ET

CLEVELAND – LeBron James attended Cleveland's playoff game against the Boston Celtics on Monday night, an appearance that is sure to spark conversation about the superstar's future.

James, who is eligible to opt out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and become a free agent this summer, played two stints in Cleveland. He led the Cavs to their only NBA championship in 2016 before leaving two years later.

James, the league's leading scorer, has a residence near his hometown of Akron. He has returned to Cleveland many times since his departure in 2018, but has not attended a Cavs game.

James arrived right as the game began and took a seat on the sidelines with his wife Savannah and agent Rich Paul.

He received a thunderous ovation when he was shown on the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse scoreboard during a timeout. James greeted the crowd and then imitated King James placing a crown on his head.

James had a short postseason this year as the Lakers were eliminated in the first round by the defending champion Denver Nuggets. He made it clear after the series that he left his options open and had not made any decisions about his next move.

James, 39, has spoken in the past about playing alongside his eldest son Bronny, who played at USC last season and recently declared for this year's draft.

On Monday, the younger James was cleared by league doctors to attend the pre-draft combine in Chicago after suffering cardiac arrest last summer.

James is a 20-time All-Star, four-time MVP and league champion. He was selected No. 1 overall by Cleveland and spent seven seasons with the Cavs before signing with Miami as a free agent in 2010.

He returned to the Cavs in 2014 and led them to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances – all against Golden State.

The Cavaliers lost to the Celtics 109-102 and fell 3-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series.

EU's JEDI supercomputer is essentially the most power environment friendly HPC system on the earth

The EU talks big when it comes to the green transition. While there has been significant political backlash to decarbonization in several sectors, one area certainly appears to be proving successful – the energy efficiency of its EuroHPC supercomputers.

The European joint venture's first exascale supercomputer, JUPITER, is currently being built at the Jülich Research Center in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its first precursor module is called JEDI (of course, in our opinion, this news should have been published on May 4th) and was installed in April.

In addition to giving some nerds the ultimate shortcut, the Jupiter Exascale Development Instrument just took the top spot on the Green500 list of the world's most energy-efficient supercomputers.

Data centers consume enormous amounts of energy. The need for computing power will only increase as training and operating AI consumes more and more of our valuable resources. According to Arm CEO Rene HaasAI could be responsible for as much electricity consumption as India by 2030.

The <3 of EU technology

The latest rumors from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise founder Boris and questionable AI art. It's free in your inbox every week. Join Now!

Therefore, it is essential that all supercomputer projects – the machines – work needed to train state-of-the-art AI – announced in recent years will be held accountable for the amount of energy they require to operate.

Nvidia again for the HPC victory

The Green500 is a ranking from the Top500 list, which is published every six months. While the latter evaluates systems purely based on their performance, the former evaluates them based on how energy efficient they are. In another triumph for Nvidia, almost all of the leading systems on the Green500 are based primarily on graphics processors or GPUs.

JEDI is based on Nvidia's GH200 Grace Hopper superchip, which combines both its GPU and CPU architecture. It also uses a direct liquid hot water cooling system that is part of the Eviden BullSequana XH3000 architecture that uses significantly less energy than traditional air cooling.

When completed, the JUPITER system will feature 24,000 Nvidia Grace Hopper chips and 125 BullSequana XH3000 racks and will exceed the one exaflop threshold. That is, a computing capacity of one trillion (that's a 1 followed by 18 zeros) floating point operations per second.

Specifically for 8-bit calculations, which are most commonly used for training AI, computing power will increase to well over 70 exaflops. This would make the system, which will go into general operation in early 2025, the most powerful AI system in the world. At least until the next one goes online, because “the future is always in motion.”

Paid go away for pregnant girls might unfold nationwide as a labor motion

Paid leave for prenatal care should become a national women's health initiative. This makes New York the first state to require an independent right to paid pregnancy leave.

In April, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a change to New York labor law that requires employers to provide pregnant employees with up to 20 hours of paid leave over a 52-week period to attend prenatal medical appointments and procedures can. The provision comes into force on January 1, 2025.

“I think other states and other governors who hold similar values in prioritizing women's health will hopefully follow suit,” said Reshma Saujani, founder and executive director of Moms First, a campaign run by the nonprofit Girls Who Code.

The federal government's Family and Medical Leave Act provides job-protected leave for prenatal care or when an expectant mother is unable to work because of her pregnancy. The law grants insured employees the right to up to 12 working weeks of vacation in a 12-month period. During this time, your job remains protected, but the vacation is unpaid.

Washington DC has passed a similar law to New York recently, allowing up to two weeks of paid leave for pregnancy-related medical care. The D.C. law also provides an additional 12 weeks of paid leave after the birth of a baby.

These laws are based on medical research showing that prenatal health care tends to lead to better health outcomes for mothers and their babies.

“The concept is that working mothers should not rely on their health insurance for health care related to the birth of a child,” said Harris M. Mufson, a partner at the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a member of the Labor and employment practices of the firm. “The view is that there should be a dedicated bank for this condition – that is appropriate and provides appropriate support for working mothers.”

There is no federal employment law precedent

Although FMLA entitles eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year, no federal law generally requires private employers to provide paid leave to employees who need time off for family and medical purposes. Likewise, there is no federal law that regulates paid time off for prenatal care.

Paid leave isn't a partisan issue, but it hasn't necessarily been a top priority for lawmakers, Saujani said. “It was never passed at the federal level because, in my opinion, it was never prioritized.”

At the national level, more than a dozen states and at least one local jurisdiction have passed laws requiring private employers to provide paid family and medical leave to their employees. All laws allow paid leave for the birth of a child or to care for a seriously ill family member, and some states also allow paid leave for other reasons, such as prenatal care, according to Westlaw.

Since January, about 14 states — including California, Colorado, Connecticut and Delaware, as well as Washington DC and the city and county of San Francisco — have implemented paid family and medical leave programs.

New York, in turn, has integrated the new prenatal protections into its paid sick leave laws. According to Westlaw, at least 18 states, as well as Washington DC and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, have enacted nationwide paid sick leave laws. Three of these state laws – Illinois, Maine and Nevada – allow the use of paid leave for any reason, not just illness.

States are more likely to follow New York's lead

States most likely to pass laws requiring paid leave for prenatal care are those that tend to offer greater worker protections, such as California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey and Connecticut, said Kelly M. Cardin, shareholder of Ogletree Deakins, who focuses on employment law. “I think it’s something that could spread,” she said.

The concept of requiring paid prenatal services may be particularly compelling in light of the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which was signed by President Biden in December 2022 and went into effect on June 27, 2023. In April, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission released its final rule implementing the law, which takes effect June 18.

In general, the PWFA requires employers to provide their employees with “reasonable accommodations” for the known limitations of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, unless doing so poses an undue hardship. The law does not replace laws that provide more protection offer the employee in this regard. More than 30 states and cities have laws requiring employers to provide accommodations for pregnant employees.

Given the federal government's focus on pregnant workers under the PWFA, it's likely that states — particularly more progressive ones — will adopt additional protections, Cardin said. It also follows a general trend of some states trying to level the playing field for workers when it comes to employee benefits.

Few workers take advantage of paid leave programs

Of course, it's not just about passing laws; It's important to make sure women know they exist, Saujani said.

Although a state like New York has a widely praised paid family leave program, utilization of the program remains low, at just 2% of eligible workers. according to information provided to CNBC by Moms First. Saujani said this reflects a nationwide trend with only 3% to 5% of eligible workers taking paid leave.

“If no one knows it exists, they won’t be able to access it,” said Saujani, whose organization created a website that uses AI to help people determine their eligibility for paid family leave in New York. Saujani said Moms First is in the process of rolling out this tool to other states that offer paid leave to help residents of those states find out if they are eligible.

Fossil Fuels and Greenhouse Gases Local weather Science – Are You As much as Date?

Paper prepared by Richard Lindzen, William Happer, Steven Koonin and submitted on April 16, 2024.

The abstract can be found below and the entire paper can be accessed here: Lindzen Happer Koonin Climate Science 4-24.

IF FOSSIL FUELS, CO2, AND OTHER GHG EMISSIONS ARE REDUCED TO “NET ZERO,” THERE WILL BE DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES FOR THE POOR, THE WORLD’S PEOPLE, FUTURE GENERATIONS, AND THE WEST.

  • CO2 is essential for our food and therefore for life on earth
  • More CO2, including CO2 from fossil fuels, produces more food.
  • More CO2 increases food intake in drought areas.
  • Greenhouse gases prevent us from freezing to death
  • Huge social benefits of fossil fuels
  • “Net zeroing” fossil fuels will lead to massive starvation among humanity by eliminating nitrogen fertilizers

The IPCC is under government control and therefore ONLY PROVIDES GOVERNMENT OPINIONS, NOT SCIENTIFIC OPINIONS

Science proves that fossil fuels, CO2 and other greenhouse gases will not cause catastrophic global warming and extreme weather

  • Reliable science is based on validating theoretical predictions through observations, not through consensus, peer review, government opinion, or carefully selected or falsified data
  • The models that predict catastrophic warming and extreme weather fail the crucial scientific test: they don't work and would never be used in science.
  • 600 million years of CO2 and temperature data contradict the theory that high CO2 levels will cause catastrophic global warming.
  • Atmospheric CO2 is now “highly saturated,” which physically means more CO2 has little warming effect.
  • The theory that extreme weather is caused by fossil fuels, CO2 and other greenhouse gases contradicts the scientific method and is therefore scientifically invalid

Queen Naija and Clarence: Social media tarnishes relationship

Queen Naija and her long-term partner Clarence White recently received some shade after sharing relationship advice.

The couple were criticized after sharing their thoughts about a woman who was not married after ten years in a relationship.

RELATED: Queen Naija and Clarence White have put an end to cheating speculation sparked by Chris Sails

Relationship advice from Queen Naija and Clarence

The couple posted a YouTube video on their shared channel, Queen and Clarence, answering questions from their viewers. A fan's message read: “My boyfriend of 10 years didn’t ask to marry me. We’ve been living together for four years.”

“After 10 years. 10 years…” said the 28-year-old.

“10 years are crazy” Clarence said with a laugh before adding: “You’re talking about me… 10 years?”

“After 10 years, you’ve all been together for 4 years, so you all have experience living together…” Queen remarked.

“What do you have to say about that?” she asked Clarence. “First I want to hear your opinion on this.”

“You should probably have a conversation with him and see if that's on his mind or if he plans to do it or not. I don’t know, maybe something is stopping him.” explained the Bronx native.

“Yeah, maybe you all should find out…go to therapy to find out what exactly is stopping him. When you’ve done everything you can do, I honestly feel like a man knows.” Queen said.

Would the queen leave without a ring after 10 years?

“What would you do in this predicament?” White asked.

With eye contact and without hesitation, Queen explained: “I would go.”

“After 10 years?” he asked.

“I would definitely go” The singer doubled down.

“Maybe you need to break up with your boyfriend to find your man.” Queen advised the woman.

Social media reacts to Queen and Clarence discussion

The couple was criticized on social media for their advice on not tying the knot. They started dating in 2018.

@urdaddii wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “This whole Queen & Clarence shit is crazy. She built this shit from the ground up! Literally took him out of his mother's basement and changed his entire lifestyle and him acting like he doesn't want to marry her is bullshit. Queen can really dive in and make another HIT breakup song!”

“All I can say about this situation between Queen Naija and Clarence is that Queen needs to wake up.” @miramsyllah explained.

There were some people who felt that the couple should live their lives the way they want.

@allat_ Attitude said: “My opinion: Queen and Clarence should continue to do what makes them happy. If marriage is in God's plan this will happen as long as he treats her well, loves her children, what's the rush? May God continue to guide them until they are ready.”

We're barely scratching the surface here, there's so much more. But the most important thing for now is that you can get started for free today. There's no reason not to do it, you can learn a lot about yourself and your family, and honestly, you never know what you'll find! How exciting.
