Within the medical units produced by China are all around the United States and the federal government are involved

A popular medical monitor is the latest device produced in China to check the potential cyber risks. However, it is not the only health center that we should worry about. Experts say that the spread of Chinese health devices in the US medical system is a reason for concern in the entire ecosystem.

The Contec CMS8000 is a popular medical monitor that pursues a patient's vital functions. The device pursues electrocardiograms, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, non-invasive blood pressure, temperature and respiratory rate. In the past few months, the FDA and cyber security and infrastructure security (CISA) both warned of a “back door” in the device, a “slightly too exploitic susceptibility to security that could enable a bad actor to change his configuration.”

The CISA research team described “Anomal Network Transport” and the Backdoor “, with which the device does not download remote files that have not been checked and executed to an IP address that is not connected to a manufacturer of medical devices or a medical facility, but a university of third-party providers is “highly unusual features”.

“When the function is carried out, files are violently overwritten on the device and prevent the end customer – like a hospital – from maintaining awareness of which software is carried out on the device,” wrote CISA.

According to the warnings, such a configuration change could lead to the monitor, for example, that the kidneys of a patient can malfunction or breathe, which can lead to the medical personnel administered unnecessary remedies that could be harmful.

The susceptibility to security of the Contec devices does not surprise the medical and IT experts who have warned for years that the safety of medical devices is too loose.

Hospitals are concerned about cyber risks

“This is a big gap that will explode,” said Christopher Kaufman, a business professor at Westcliff University in Irvine, California, which specializes in this, and disruptive technologies, especially on the security gap in many medical devices.

The American Hospital Association, which represents over 5,000 hospitals and clinics in the United States. It regards the spread of Chinese medical devices as a serious threat to the system.

With regard to the Contec monitors, the AHA says that the problem urgently needs to be addressed.

“We have to put this at the top of the list to get the potential for patient damage. We have to patch before hacking,” said John Riggi, a national consultant for cyber security and risk for the American Hospital Association. Riggi also served in the FBI roles of fighting terrorism before joining the AHA.

CISA reports that no software patch is available to alleviate this risk, but in her advice the government currently said with Contec.

Contec with headquarters in Qinhuangdao, China, did not give back a request for comment.

One of the problems is that it is not known how many monitors are in the USA

“We do not know that there are room for equipment in hospitals in hospitals. We speculate that there are conservative thousands of these monitors. This is a very critical susceptibility,” said Riggi and added that Chinese access to the devices can be strategic . Technical and supply chain risks.

In the short term, the FDA advised medical systems and patients to ensure that the devices only run locally or deactivate remote monitoring. Or if the remote monitoring is the only option to prevent the device when an alternative is available. The FDA said that so far it has no cyber security incidents, injuries or deaths in connection with vulnerability.

The American Hospital Association has also told its members that hospitals until a patch is available should ensure that the monitor has no more access to the Internet and is divided by the rest of the network.

Riggi said that the Contec monitors are an excellent example of what we do not often take into account under the health risk. In the US hospitals with cash, he said, he often bought medical devices from China, a country with a history in which destructive malware within the critical infrastructure in the US inexpensive devices bought the Chinese potential access to an abundance of American medical information that implemented and aggregated for all possible purposes. According to Riggi, data is often transferred to China with the purpose of monitoring the performance of a device, but little else is known about what happens to the data beyond.

According to Riggi, individuals do not have acute medical risk as strong as the collected and aggregated information in order to put the larger medical system at risk. Nevertheless, he points out that at least theoretically it cannot be ruled out that prominent Americans could target disorders with medical devices.

“When we talk to hospitals, the CEOs are surprised, they had no idea about the dangers of these devices, so we help them to understand them. The question for the government is how domestic production cannot be stimulated in overseas,” said Riggi.

Chinese data acquisition for Americans

The Contec warning is similar to TikK, Deepseek, TP-Link router and other devices and technologies from China, which the US government says to collect data on Americans. “And that's all I have to hear to decide whether I should buy medical devices from China,” said Riggi.

Aras Nazarovas, a researcher for information security at Cybernews, agrees that the CISA threatening raises serious problems that need to be addressed.

“We have a lot to fear,” said Nazarovas. Medical devices, like the Contec CMS8000, often have access to highly sensitive patient data and are directly connected to life -saving functions. According to Nazarovas, if the devices are poorly defended, they become easy prey for hackers who manipulate the data displayed, change the vital settings or can completely deactivate the device.

“In some cases, these devices are so badly protected that attackers can receive remote access and change the way the device ever know without the hospital or the patients,” said Nazarovas.

The consequences of the contec security gap and the weaknesses in a number of medical devices from Chinese medical persons could be easy to life. “Imagine a patient monitor who stops the Amer on the heart rate of a patient to change the doctors to a decline in patients, or to a wrong measurement, which leads to a delayed or false diagnosis,” said Nazarovas. The Contec CMS8000 and the EPSIMED MN-1220 (another brand name for the same technology) can be used as an entry point to the hospital network, “added Nazarovas.

Other hospitals and clinics pay attention. The Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau, Alaska, does not use the CONTAC monitors, but always searches for risks. “Regular surveillance is of crucial importance, since the risk of cyber security attacks on hospitals continues to increase,” says Erin Hardin, a spokeswoman for Bartlett.

However, regular monitoring may not be sufficient as long as devices are produced with poor certainty.

The matter may deteriorate, says Kaufman, that the Department of Government Efficiency hollows out the departments that are responsible for securing such devices. According to the Associated Press, many of the recent layoffs of the FDA are employees who check the safety of medical devices.

Kaufman complains about the likelihood of state supervision of what a loose regulated industry is already. An office view for the US government's accountability in January 2022 showed that 53% of the networked medical devices and other Internet of Things had known critical weaknesses in hospitals. He says the problem has only become worse since then. “I am not sure what these agencies will lead,” said Kaufman.

“Problems with the medical devices are widespread and have been known for some time,” said Silas Cutler, main researcher of the main security researcher at medical data companies Censys. “The reality is that the consequences can be bad-and even fatal. While top-class people are exposed to an increased risk, those affected will be the hospital system itself, with the effects on everyday patients cascading.”

New examine means that cosmic radiation has modified virus growth in Africa

Astronomers have known for some time that nearby supernovae had a profound effect on the development of the earth. For the beginning it is assumed that earth deposits of gold, platinum and other heavy metals have been distributed to earth by old supernovae. The explosions of the gamma rays released in the process can also significantly influence the lifespan, reduce nitrogen and oxygen in the upper atmosphere, reduce the ozone layer and cause harmful mirrors of the ultraviolet radiation to reach the surface. In view of the number of almost the ground of supernovae, which has occurred 4.5 billion years ago, these events probably influenced the development of life.

In a new paper from a team of astronomers at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), a nearby supernova may have influenced the development of life on earth. According to its findings, the earth was deleted from a nearby supernova about 2.5 million years ago by radiation. This radiation boost was powerful enough to break the DNA of the living beings in Tanganyika -See, the deepest water body in Africa. This event, you argue, could be associated with an explosion of the number of viruses that have occurred in the region.

The study was headed by Caitlyn Nojiri, a graduate from the USCS department for astronomy and astrophysics. She was accompanied by Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, a USCS professor of astronomy and astrophysics, and Noémie Globus, postdoctoral fellow at USCS and member of the Kavli Institute for Partche Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford University and the Astrophysical Big Big Laboratory. The paper that describes its results was published on January 15 in the magazine Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The picture of Lake Tanganyika was taken over in June 1985. Credit: NASA

For her study, the team rehearsals from the Iron-60 from the sea floor of Lake Tanganyika, the 645 km long lake in the Great Rift Valley Africa, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo borders. This radioactive iron isotope of iron is produced by supernovae and is extremely rare on earth. They received age estimates based on how much rehearsals had already divided into non -radioactive forms. This resulted in two separate age groups for rehearsals, about 2.5 million years and the other 6.5 million years.

The next step was to track the origin of the iron isotopes, which they attributed to the backtrack of the sun movements around the middle of the Milky Way. About 6.5 million years ago, our solar system went through the local bladder, a region with a lower density in the interstellar medium (ISM) of the Orion arm in a milky way. As the solar system penetrated into the stardust-rich outer of the bladder, the earth was sown with the older traces of iron-60. A neighboring star Supernova went 2 and 3 million years ago and set the earth with the younger traces of iron-60.

In order to confirm this theory, Nojiri and her colleagues carried out a simulation of an almost earth -end supernova, which pointed out that it had bombed the earth with cosmic rays for 100,000 years after the explosion. This model matched a previously recorded radiation tip that hit the earth around this time. In view of the intensity of the radiation, this increased the possibility that it was sufficient to grab DNA strands in two halves. In the meantime, the authors came up with an examination of the variety of virus in one of the Rift Valley Lakes Africa and saw a possible connection. Nojiri said in a UCSC press release:

“It is really cool to find ways to influence our life or the habitability of the planet. The Iron-60 is a way to trace back when the supernovae appeared. Of two to three million years, we believe that a supernova nearby has happened. We saw from other papers that radiation can damage DNA. This could be an acceleration for evolutionary changes or mutations in cells. We cannot say that they are connected, but they have a similar time frame. We found it interesting that the viruses gave increased diversification. “

The main author Caitlyn Nojiri is now applying for the graduate school and hopes to have a Ph.D. in astrophysics. Credit: UCSC

Shortly after her newspaper was released, Nojiri was the first UCSC student who stated a seminar in the Center for Cosmology and Astropartic Physics (CCAPP) in the state of Ohio. Nojiri did not start as an astronomer at first, but finally came at the UCSC, where Prof. Ramirez-Ruiz encouraged her to apply for the program of the University of California Leadership as part of the Advanced Degrees (UC Leads). This program is intended to identify students with different backgrounds who have the potential to be successful in Stem.

She also took part in the Lamat program (“Star” in Maya), which was founded by Ramirez-Ruiz to teach students with great ability and non-traditional backgrounds, as was researched in astronomy. Because of her experience with these programs, Nojiri has decided to apply for a graduate school and become astrophysicists.

“People from different areas of life bring different perspectives to science and can solve problems in very different ways,” said Ramirez-Ruiz. “This is an example of the beauty of having different perspectives in physics and having these voices.”

Tesla gross sales recharge in Europe. Is Muschus guilty?

Elon Musk Maga policy quickly becomes a mega problem for Tesla.

New registrations of Tesla vehicles that have dropped across Europe last month in the middle Boycotts Against the EV brand. While wider economic forces are Play Musks role in the Trump administration and its open support from right -wing extremist politicians Seems to fuel the steep fall of his company out of grace – and give rival brands a golden opportunity.

Germany's transport authority reported These new Tesla registrations in January fell by almost 60%compared to the previous year. That despite the country's country Battery-electric vehicle sector lists a combined growth of 53.5% in sales last month.

There were also dramatic declines in the registrations reported in Spain (75.4%), France (63.4%), Sweden (46%) and the Netherlands (42.5%). The DIP was associated with the behavior of Teslas CEO.

“There is no doubt that” The Musk Factor “influenced Tesla's turnover as well as his reputation influenced Twitter on Twitter and renamed the X,” says TNW.

Musk, an already splitting figure, has in the past few months with the richest man in the world – and the Social -Media platform X, which he has quickly becomes a mouthpiece for the conservatism of the Trump era.

In Europe, Musk openly supported Germany's populist AfD and even organized an interview on X, where he frequently praise On the leader of the Alice Weidel party. During the Trump-Ammung on January 20, Musk made a controversial hand gesture, which many interpreted as a greeting in the Nazi style.

Musk's actions are either loathed or brave, depending on who you ask. But for those who regret his actions, Tesla – a brand that is difficult to stand out from their leader – is an obvious goal.

The counter reaction against Tesla

Political activists on January 23 beaming A picture of musk make the National Socialist greeting Together with the word “Heil” on Teslas Gigafactory in Berlin.

After Muschus an AfD rally with a video call joined At the end of January, the Polish tourism minister Slawomir Nitras demanded one Boycott of The EV brand. At the beginning of February there was a Tesla showroom in the Netherlands unrecognizable With swastika and anti -fascist slogans.

It is not difficult to argue that the public mood against Musk is angry. However, it is more difficult to measure whether the actions of the Tesla entrepreneur damage Tesla's final results of the entrepreneur.

One of the best ways to ask the Tesla owner.

In the Netherlands, one In three Tesla driver want to remove their car because of musk, according to a current one Opinion poll. Such a person is Tim Kraaijvanger, the founder of Tesla360.nl, a Dutch website that is only devoted to the Tesla products. In an ironic turn, Kraaijvanger recently sold his Tesla and instead bought a polestar.

“I don't want to be associated [Musk’s] Ideology, ”he said Wired. “While Muschus could get away with one [Nazi-like] In some parts of the world, European markets reject such behavior. “

Musks Possen could be good news for other EV manufacturers as more people like Kraaijvanger jumping ship. “It is a fantastic opportunity for competing manufacturers,” says Fellows.

Among those who are exploited is polestar, The Swedish EV brand. Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, said that the company has seen an increase in inquiries from annoyed Tesla owners in recent months – and he encourages his sellers to aim.

“We let a lot of people not like them,” said Lohscheller Bloomberg News. “It is important to listen exactly what you say. And I can tell you, many people have a very, very negative feeling. “

Some drivers who are not yet willing to separate themselves from their Tesla have started to attach stickers to their cars, wear the messages like, such as. “I bought this car before Elon went crazy.” Even some of Tesla's employees want to distance themselves from their boss Washington Post.

To date, the Tesla share has fallen by 15% last month.

“Tesla develops a serious reputation problem,” says Fellows. The expert in the automotive industry believes Mushing and Trump share around 30% of the guilt for The sales of the EV manufacturer drops. It leads the remaining 70% “industry factors”.

The guilt game

Tesla Model y was Europe's best -selling car In 2023But intensive competition has questioned the brand's market share. In 2024 the turnover of Tesla rejected The first decline falls by 1.1%in over 10 years. In September, the Chinese car manufacturer BYD became the world's leading EV brand thanks to its aggressive price strategy.

While Tesla has made modest changes to its list in recent years, competing brands such as VW, Renault and BMW have introduced new models, sometimes with Lower prices.

Tesla was also subject to many of the same challenges as other EV manufacturer-long-term demand, the supply chain shocks and reduced subsidies for first buyers. The company also has some of its own topics.

“As early as 2025, Tesla faced several headwinds before CEO Elon Musk in the center of several controversies with the potential to influence the sales volume and profitability of the company”.

Musk's company was also busy updating its model Y, which McNally contributed to the sale of sales, as the customers are waiting for the latest model before upgrading. The updated model Y is on go on in the United States next month.

Musks Possen could not have come to a worse time for Tesla, since it deals with intensive competition, an aging modeling and a broader slump in demand for electric vehicles.

Tesla's reputation in Europe now largely depends on his CEO – unless the company decides on this push him.

The lawyer in Case says this after the protection crew has been terminated

We are almost three months in 2025 and less than that beforehand Sean 'Diddy' Combs puts in court. He faces the federal trade, blackmail and transport of prostitution costs in New York. While Diddy's lawyers are probably busy preparing his defense, a lawyer is said to be a foot from the team. Anthony Ricco wants to quit and after humans he submitted an application for it.

Relationships: Diddy sues the man because he claims to have ligaments of alleged freakoffs and sexual assault

Inquiry from Diddy's lawyer says this

People pulled Anthony Ricco's paperwork, and although he supposedly gave no reason to quit, he appears in his decision. He admitted that a conversation with Diddy's main consultant Marc Agnifilo stuck his nail for him. However, he was based on his privilege at his lawyer and as his argument that he did not give any further details about terminating. In the affidavit, the lawyer reported reportedly: “… Under no circumstances can I continue to serve as a lawyer of Sean Combs.”

TMZ has quoted unnamed sources that suggest that Anthony's departure is related to his lack of relationship. The sources claim that the lawyer without working relationships does not feel able to properly defend the client.

What happens next?

Ricco remains a lawyer in Diddy's defense team on paper. This will be the case until a judge grants his application. It is unclear whether this means that he is working actively on the case until then or whether he has already been in the background.

Regardless of this, Sean Combs still has a proper representation, with lawyer Agnifilo leading the highly expected defense of the producer. According to reports, four other lawyers are also working on the case.

“In the event of a delay in the present schedule, this application for withdrawal of the lawyer leads to a delay in the present schedule for the start of the selection and court proceedings of the jury or the present schedules for the investigation of legal questions,” says Ricco's application. “As a result, there will be no responsibility, since Sean Combs will continue to represent five other lawyers of records.”

While his lawyers work from outside, Diddy is expected to stay behind bars in the metropolitan detention center until his process begins on May 5. At the moment he has not known himself guilty.

Relationships: Update: The lawyer of Diddy reports reportedly after being replaced by the indictment in the case of the federal family

23andme According to a submission of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, CEO Anne Wojcicki and New Mountain Capital submitted a proposal for private setting the competitive gene test test privately.

Wojcicki and New Mountain have offered to acquire all outstanding cash shares of 23 and outstanding shares of $ 2.53 per share or an equity value of approx. $ 74.7 million. The company's share closed on Friday at $ 2.42 with a market capitalization of around 65 million US dollars.

The offer takes place after a turbulent year for 23Andme, with the share lost more than 80% of its value in 2024. In January, the company announced plans to explore strategic alternatives that could include a sale of the company or its assets, a restructuring or a business combination.

23Andme has a special committee for independent directors to evaluate potential paths forward. In October, the company appointed three new independent directors to his Board of Directors after all seven former directors had left abruptly in the previous month. The special committee has to approve Wojcicki and New Mountain's proposal.

“We believe that our proposal offers the public shareholders of the company convincing value and immediate liquidity”, wrote Wojcicki and Matthew Holt, managing director and president of private equity at New Mountain, in a letter to the special committee on Thursday.

Wojcicki previously submitted a proposal to take over the company privately for 40 cents per share in July, but it was rejected by the special committee, partly because the members provided.

Wojcicki and New Mountain are ready to enable secure debt financing to finance 23Ande activities by closing the transaction, the submission said. New Mountain is based in New York and, according to his website, has 55 billion US dollars in assets.

Angel Reese makes an incomparable story with the primary 20-20 sport

Angel Reese was with her right arm when Shakira Austin tried to contact the Lunar Owls in the third quarter of the Rose game on Friday.

Austin lowered her shoulder and tried to draw Reese a foul that tipped the ball. Austin recovered the ball and again appeared Reese. Austin turned towards the basket, but Reese reflected her movements and forced Austin to throw the ball desperately into the basket to the basket.

Selection of the publisher

After Reese collected the rebound, he turned back and looked at her opponent before going along the Court.

Reese ended with 22 points and 21 rebounds and was the first player in the unsurpassed story to score a 20-point game with a 20-deficiency identifier to help the rose to beat the previously unbeaten owls 72-63.

“You know, had to write history,” said Reese after the fourth victory of the rose in a row. “I am able to see my growth, I have put the work to work and many people don't see what I have built in. It's great to see the results out there. But obviously I'm not yet finished. “

When Reese left the court, they grinded the “Hootie Hoo” rally rally of the Lunar Owls and screamed the vocals as he fluttered over his hands. When she entered the press conference after the game, she sniffed on a red rose.

“I think everyone came out with an additional swing this evening,” said Reese, who scored a 15-point game with 16 ranges. “We knew that they were 8-0 and nobody believed to be outside of this changing room. It was only we. That is all that matters. … it takes every flower sheet to make the rose. And tonight has it contributed. “

Chelsea Gray added 26 points and five rebounds for the rose.

“There was a lot of chatting out there that I didn't have it and I'm here,” said Gray. “So, quietly the noise.”

The tandem of Gray and Reese was instrumental in the success of the rose and its hot stripes when they started in the last few weeks of the regular season.

Reese admitted that playing with Gray had played in an incomparable fight early when she learned where Gray likes the ball and how to navigate her death and relief.

“When they talk to her, she will say that I have gotten much better,” said Reese. “It was incredible to have this kind of vet. I love Chelsea and her energy.”

“There is a lot of communication,” said Gray about Reese. “She works so hard. It is a force that is low, it makes shots, and when it is locked up at both ends of the soil, it is really difficult to protect.”

The rose (5-4) are third in the overall ranking, half a game back second place. The four best teams qualify in incomparable playoffs, whereby head-to-head records and point differentials serve as tie-breakers.

Unusual winds blow via the environment of this exoplanet

Some exoplanets have properties that are completely foreign to our solar system. Hot Jupiter are such a type. You can have orbital periods of less than 10 days and surface temperatures to well over 4,000 K (3,730 ° C or 6,740 ° F). In contrast to planets in our system, they are usually properly closed.

Astronomers examined the atmosphere of a hot Jupiter and found some strange winds.

The planet is WASP-121 B, also known as Tylos. It is about 860 light years from the earth in the constellation dolls. It has about 1.16 Jupiter masses and a radius about the 1.75 times the Jupiter. It is extremely close to its main star and completes an orbit every 1.27 days. Tyros is cheaply blocked on his star, and its temperature is 3,000 Kelvin (2,730 ° C or 4,940 ° F) and qualifies it as an ultra-hot Jupiter.

“It feels like something from science fiction.”

Julia Seidel, European Southern Observatory

Since its discovery in 2015, the atmosphere of Tylos has been examined many times. The researchers found water in its stratosphere and titanium oxide and vanadium oxide. They also found iron and chrome, although some of these results did not replicate some of the following studies.

In new research, scientists examined the atmosphere of Tylos in more detail with the four telescopes from which the VLT consists. With the help of the Espresso instrument of the VLT, the researchers found strong winds through the atmosphere of the exoplanet and confirmed the presence of iron and titanium. The results are in two new papers.

“Even the strongest hurricanes in the solar system seem to be calm in comparison.”

Julia Seidel, European Southern Observatory

The first paper“Vertical structure of the atmospheric jet current of an exoplanet”, “ was published in Nature. The senior author is Julia Seidel, a researcher at the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

The second is “Titanium chemistry of WASP-121 B with espresso in 4-UT mode”, which was published in the magazine Astronomy and Astrophysics. The senior author is Bibiana Prinoth, doctoral student at Lund University in Sweden, which is also at the European Southern Observatory.

Some of the researchers involved are co -authors of both newspapers.

“Ultra-Hot-Jupiter, an extreme class of planets that cannot be found in our solar system, offer a unique window in atmospheric processes,” write the authors of the natural paper. “The extreme temperature stands in contrast between your day and night and night and night and night sides is a basic climate badge: How is the energy distributed?”

The impression of an artist of Tylos, also known as WASP-121 b. Image with friendly approval: NASA, ESA, Q. Changerat et al., M. Zamani (ESA/Hubble)

“The atmosphere of this planet is in a way that questions our understanding of how the weather works – not only on earth, but on all planets. It feels like something from science fiction, ”said Julia Seidel, the senior author of the study published in Nature.

With the power of VLT and espresso, the researchers were able to examine the atmosphere of Tylos in detail. No other exoplanet atmosphere has ever been so detailed and examined in such depth. The researchers created a 3D map of the atmosphere and revealed different layers and winds.

The atmosphere of Tylos is divided into three layers, with Eisenwinden on the ground, followed by a very fast jet stream sodium and finally an upper hydrogen wind layer. This type of climate has never been seen on a planet. Photo credits: ESO/M. Grain knife

“What we found was surprising: a jet current turns the material around the planet's equator, while a separate current moves gas from the hot side to the cooler side in lower levels of the atmosphere. This type of climate has never been seen on a planet, ”said Seidel. The observed jet electricity extends over half of the planet, gains speed and collects the atmosphere violently in the sky while crossing the hot side of Tylos. “Even the strongest hurricanes in the solar system seem to be quiet in comparison,” she adds.

“It is really stunning that we can study details such as chemical make-up and the weather patterns of a planet at such a large distance.”

Bibiana Prinoth, Lund University and the European Southern Observatory

VLT has an interesting design and is invoiced by the European southern observatory as a “astronomical observatory of the most advanced light light” worldwide. It has four main units with 8.2-meter primary mirrors and four smaller, movable help with 1.8-meter primary levels. When working with the espresso instrument, VLT works as a single, powerful telescope. This combined force meant that the VLT collected plenty of data in front of its star during a single transit from Tylos.

“The VLT enabled us to examine three different layers of the atmosphere of the exoplanet for a fall,” said the co-author of the study, Leonardo A. Dos Santos, deputy astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute. The researchers followed the movement of the wind by tracking the movements of different elements: iron, sodium and hydrogen correspond to the deep, medium and flat layers of the atmosphere. “It is the type of observation that has very difficult to do with space telescopes and emphasizes the importance of ground -based observations of exoplanets,” he adds.

This diagram shows the structure and movement of the atmosphere of the Exoplanet Tylos (WASP-121b). The exoplanet is shown in this figure from above and looks at one of his poles. The planet revolves it towards clockwise that it always shows the same side to its overarching star. One side is eternal day and the other is eternal night. The transition between night and night is the “morning side”, while the “evening page” represents the transition between day and night. The morning side is on the right and the evening side on the left. Photo credits: ESO/M. Grain knife

The observations showed an exoplanetic atmosphere with unusual complexity.

When Tylos crosses in front of his host star, which is known as transit, atoms decrease certain star wave lengths in the atmosphere of the planet, which were measured with the espressoistium of the vlt. With this data, astronomers reconstructed the composition and speed of different layers in the atmosphere. An iron wind blows in the deepest layer, away from the point of the planet where the star is directly over head. There is a very fast sodium beam above the iron layer, which is moving faster than the planet turns. The sodium beam accelerates when it moves from the morning side of the planet to the evening side. The upper layer consists of hydrogen where the wind blows outwards. The hydrogen layer overlaps with the sodium beam underneath.

The authors explain that this unusual planet is more than just a curiosity. Its unusual properties make it a great test bed for global circulation models. “By dissolving the vertical structure of the atmospheric dynamics, we go beyond integrated global snapshots of the atmosphere, enable more detailed identification of river patterns and enable a more differentiated comparison with models,” the authors explain.

The study published in astronomy and astrophysics is also based on data from VLT and espresso. It discovered further details of the Tylos atmosphere, including its chemistry. “The transmission spectrum of WASP-121 B was examined in detail using the cross correlation technology, which led to recognitions and confirmations for various atoms and ions, including HI, MG I, CA, VI, CR I, FE I, NI, FE II , Ca II and KI, BA II ”, the authors write. “We confirm all of these recognitions and also report recognitions for TI I, MN I, CO I SR I and SR II.”

“With this experience, I have the feeling that I am about to uncover incredible things that we can only dream of now.”

The researchers found Titan directly under the jet stream. This finding is interesting because earlier examinations recognize Titan and the subsequent examinations refuted this. “We conduct the ability to recognize TI I of the superior photon collecting performance by using espresso in 4-UT mode compared to a single 1 -ut transit and improvements when using the cross correlation technology”.

Cross correlation technology is a powerful method for examining exoplanet atmospheres. Light from the atmosphere is much weaker than light from the star and can be covered by the much stronger star light. The cross correlation technology helps to overcome this by comparing the observed spectrum with the well -known “Template” spectrum of specific molecules and atoms that are expected in the atmosphere.

This illustration shows the two -dimensional cross correlation function of Hi, Li I, Na, Mg I, KI, CA, TI I, VI, CR I, MN I, FE II, CO I, NI I, BA II, SR I and SR II. The last field shows the cross correlation function for the entire atmospheric model. Photo credits: Prinoth et al. 2025.

“It is really stunning that we can study details such as the chemical make-up and weather pattern of a planet at such a great distance,” said Bibiana Prinoth, leading author of astronomy and astrophysics paper.

“The 4-ut-mode of espresso, with its effective photon collection area, which corresponds to that of a 16-meter class telescope.

The examination of the exoplanet atmosphere with floor -based telescopes will soon get a large thrust. In 2028, the long -awaited extremely large telescope was to start operating. It will have a primary mirror of 39.3 meters in diameter, which gives it 250 times more light collection sector than the lifting. Powerful instruments for examining exoplanet atmospheres will also contain powerful instruments.

“The present analysis also enables us to anticipate the observation skills of the soon responsible Elt, in particular with regard to time -solved studies on exoplanet atmospheres,” the authors write.

Who knows what further strangeness is waiting to be discovered in exoplanet atmospheres?

“The elt will be a game change for the examination of exoplanet atmospheres,” said Prinoth. “With this experience, I have the feeling that I am about to uncover incredible things that we can only dream of now.”

The British Darpa helps artificial muscle tissues and digital pores and skin for robots

A British f & e unit compared with DARPA financed synthetic muscles, electronic skin and mechanical hands for a robotic skill project.

The Advanced Research and Inventent Agency (Aria) today presented the 10 teams selected for the program. Your mission: redeem a new era of skill that will change the robotic and human productivity.

Members of the group include startups, university laboratories, public research organizations and large companies. They receive a total of 52 million GBP to drive the physical skill of robots.

The funds aim to close the software hardware gap in the robotics that expanded during the AI boom.

Robot bodies are now behind progress in the calculation. Their failure to correspond to the flexibility, speed and precision of humans has severely restricted their use.

Algorithms now quickly reach new levels of intelligence. Aria wants the hardware to catch up.

The agency argues that there is an urgent need for progress. The proportion of the world population aged over 65 is tripled until 2100. At the same time, a shortage of workers for physically demanding jobs are increasing. Robots could offer significant support.

The robotics teams

Members of the program have proposed various solutions for the challenge.

Arthur Robotics, a startup based in London, would like to commercialize a mechanical hand inspired by biology. The motorized limb focuses on the production and mixes soft, deformable contact surfaces with a rich tactile detection and reinforcement learning.

A team of Lorenzo Jamone, an extraordinary professor of robotics and AI at University College London, will develop electronic skin. Based on magnetic technology, the skin aims to measure the 3D contact forces in several places. It can also bend and stretch.

Startups from outside of Great Britain also contribute to this. Denmark's pliantics will create soft linear actuators who serve as “artificial muscles” that improve the physical interactions of a robot. Another set of artificial muscles is built by artimus, a US company, together with researchers at the University of Bristol.

Nicholas Kellaris, co -founder and Chief Research Officer of Artimus, praised the project on the cooperation.

“This program is unique in how it promotes the cooperation between Creator at all development levels and is actively facilitating, from basic hardware to simulation, integration and validation of complete solutions,” he said. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to do so [join] This multi -stage and interdisciplinary approach. “

The Aria model

Aria was founded in 2023 and promotes “high risk, high reward”. The strategy has made comparisons with Darpa, an agency of the US Department of Defense, which develops emerging technologies.

The Pentagon unit was involved in a variety of transformative innovations, from the Internet and GPS via stealth technology and autonomous vehicles.

A large number of projects are already underway at Aria. An unveiled last year planned the provision “Quantitative security guarantees” for AI with digital gatekeeper. Another goal is to create early warning systems for climate tip points. A third looks at nature to train AI with 0.1% of the costs.

With the arrival of the robotics skill teams, Aria now adds futuristic hardware to his laboratories.

Here you will find the full list of concepts in the program.
