NYT’s introduction of tired global warming makes winter storms more extreme.
How climate change affects winter storms.

The great winter storm that hit the eastern United States on Wednesday and Thursday likely prompted some people to ask, “What happened to global warming?”
While it is becoming increasingly clear that climate change is affecting storms, the relationship can be complex and not intuitive. “There were expectations that winter would basically go away for us,” said Judah Cohen, director of seasonal forecasting at AER, a company that educates clients about weather and climate risks.
Although winters are getting warmer and slightly milder overall, extreme weather events have also increased, particularly in the northeastern US, as Dr. Cohen recently highlighted Climate Change in an article in the journal Nature. From winter 2008/09 to 2017/18 there were 27 major winter storms in the northeast, three to four times as many as in the last five decades.

If global warming has so far resulted in a three to four fold increase in severe winter storms, imagine the bitter cold weather that the next few decades of global warming will bring.
