Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has a Grade 2 sprain

Memphis Grizzlies Star Point Guard Ja Morant has a class 2 sprain on his left ankle and is expected to miss 3-5 weeks, the team said Tuesday.

An MRI on Tuesday revealed the severity of the sprain after the first x-rays on Monday evening showed no fracture.

Morant took to social media after the news broke.

Morant was injured in Memphis’ 116-111 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday as he tried to block striker Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot’s shot and landed awkwardly on Luwawu-Cabarrot’s foot. Morant jumped to the sidelines in pain before collapsing next to the Grizzlies bench and eventually being wheeled into the locker room.

Shortly after, he was disfellowshipped for the remainder of the game, and the team called it a left ankle sprain.

The Grizzlies are already without Jaren Jackson Jr., who is recovering from surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee in August, and Justise Winslow, who is returning from a left hip injury.

Morant led Memphis last season averaging 17.8 points per game. He also opened this season and achieved a career high of 44 points.
