The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner was announced Tuesday night on ESPN in a ceremony held six days before the College Football Playoffs title game.
DeVonta Smith, an Alabama recipient, won the award with 447 votes in first place – more than twice as much as in second place. It’s a regular season award, but fans will still be able to see Smith at the CFP championship. He will face the state of Ohio in his final college appearance next Monday.
The other finalists were Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Alabama’s Mac Jones, and Florida’s Kyle Trask. Lawrence took second place ahead of Jones, surprising many observers who believed Jones was the only threat to Smith at the top of the list.
