One weekend before the championship Sunday.
After a pretty entertaining super wild card weekend with two triple headers on Saturday and Sunday, a bit of NFL playoff normality returns this weekend, with four matchups spread over two days.
In the NFC, the Rams and their malicious D are hoping to shut down the No. 1 Packers at Lambeau Field. However, the Rams will face a difficult challenge, not only will they face Aaron Rodgers, but they will look to QB for an answer themselves. John Wolford’s status for the matchup is in the air after a hospital visit while Jared Goff continues to nurse his thumb to health.
Elsewhere in the NFC, the Saints are looking to give the buccaneers their third L of the 2020 season after a couple of wins in the regular season helped catapult NOLA back into another divisional crown. Tom Brady has his hands full against the Saints and throws five interceptions in two games against New Orleans this year.

Two tough, die-hard defenses clash in the AFC, while the Bills take on the Ravens in Orchard Park, with two quarterbacks from the 2018 first round taking the lead. Lamar Jackson put the (rather ridiculous) story to bed that he couldn’t win a playoff game and now has the chance to win two. Josh Allen exorcised his own playoff demons with a 27:24 win over Indianapolis.
The other AFC game of the weekend features the surprising Browns and No. 1 seeded Chiefs: Cleveland entered Pittsburgh and rocked the Steelers on Sunday night. So don’t be surprised if the Browns’ D does enough to hamper the mighty Chiefs offense. Could be.
Here’s what you need to know about this weekend’s division round matchups.

NFL Divisional Round Matchups
NFC
- Packer No. 1 versus Rams No. 6
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are ready, rested and ready to go to defend their home turf against the Rams in the first match of the division weekend.
The Packers face a daunting task in one of the NFL’s top defenses that grounded the Seahawks and Russell Wilson, keeping them at 20 points and avenging the week 16 loss in the first-round win.
The Rams still have their own questions, namely who will start at the quarterback next Sunday. While Jared Goff came into play to the relief of quarterback John Wolford, who was taken to a local hospital as a precaution after being hit by Jamal Adams, head coach Sean McVay has yet to devote himself to any passerby. Superstar defender Aaron Donald also sustained a rib injury in the wildcard match against the Seahawks, which raises some questions about how healthy he will be on Saturday.
- No. 2 saints versus No. 5 privateers
It may be the ultimate battle for division supremacy: Saints vs. Buccaneers, Round 3.
The Saints maintained their dominance over Tom Brady and the Bucs during the regular season, going 2-0 and defeating Tampa Bay 72-26 in the two matchups. Fortunately, playoff positions are not earned precisely
After the Saints once again received the NFC South Division crown, the Buccaneers face a difficult path en route to the Super Bowl. You have to go through New Orleans and a seemingly resurgent Drew Brees on your way to another Brady Super Bowl appearance. It will be a tough match for New Orleans ‘D, however, as the Bucs’ offensive peaked in the last five games of the season, scoring 172 points in that time. They scored another 31 points for a strong Washington Football team defense on Saturday night.
AFC
- No. 2 bills against No. 5 ravens
In the words of the rock band Staind: “It’s been a while.”
The Bills waited 25 years for a playoff win and beat the Colts on Saturday afternoon. It was a tight game that almost resulted in a fumble by Josh Allen. Fortunately, the Bills jumped on the ball and saved the win.
The Ravens avenged their 2019 playoff loss to the Titans with a big win over Tennessee on Sunday, without paying any respect to their budding rivals. Now Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have to face Allen’s big arm and a die-hard Buffalo team on a mission in Orchard Park.
- No. 1 Chiefs versus No. 6 Browns
Cleveland’s breathtaking, shocking and surprising win over the Steelers on Sunday night made many Cleveland doubters scream “Cleveland Rocks”.
While some would not label the win as such, consider this: The Browns, who were grappling with a dire COVID-19 situation, left on Sunday without head coach Kevin Stefanski and a litany of staff after positive coronavirus tests earlier this week Mike Prieter as deputy head coach for the game. Cleveland blasted the doors of Pittsburgh (48:37), although the result wasn’t nearly as close as the game.
Now the 14-2 Chiefs and Mahomes are hoping to stop the Browns’ momentum as they try to claim Super Bowl wins in a row.
