This incident highlights how foolhardy it is to rely so heavily on imported electricity. At the moment we have of course been able to close the deficit, probably with gas.

The Elexon diagram below shows how the NSL interconnector instantaneously collapsed at 7:50am BST and did not return to full power until 9:25am.

On this occasion, it was OCGT that was quickly ramped up to deal with the outage:

The more we rely on I/C, the more susceptible we are to these problems. And we will not have gas electricity to save us.
