In the winter of 1992, Donnie Walsh, General Manager of the then Indiana Pacers, considered the early stage of Chicago Bulls dynastic how exactly he wanted to revise his squad. He remembers the exact moment.
Or more precisely, the moment Star Guard Reggie Miller issued.
The Pacers organized Pat Rileys New York Knicks on December 30th, and Indiana led a set on the offensive. Center Rik Smits, which were checked on the key above, while Miller flashed to the elbow before he was hoping to get a back door pass from The Pacers Big Man. The ball arrived there. Miller didn't.
Before the future Hall of Fam was able to enter the color, Knick's Enforcer Charles Oakley performed and let a shoulder wait for Miller. The security guard fell to the ground when the ball sailed out of the borders.
“Whoa!” Play-by-play announcer Marv Albert said on the show, steamed by the collective moan of the Indiana amount. The officials – perhaps thrown off the mere force of Oakley's action – surprisingly decided against a foul. All of this was liable with Walsh.
“The referees had no idea what to do,” said Walsh about Miller's collision with Oakley, which later led to the New York striker from the Ligabüro with a fine of 10,000 US dollars, although no foul was called. “That's exactly what I said to myself: 'This summer I get two boys like Oak.' Because such players would change the make -up of our team immediately.

The addition of defender-oriented security guards Derrick McKey and the physical power striker Antonio Davis did just that. And when Walsh converted the up-tempo pacer to the Grindstone-Knicks, the production of what later became fiery rivalry began.
Indiana and New York, which are to play for the crown of the Eastern Conference on Wednesday from Wednesday, have a lot of common, highly dramatic playoff history. From 1993 to 1995 they met in three in a row in a row and six times in eight post -seasons from 1993 to 2000.
The rivalry was renewed in a large way last year when the clubs left them in the conference semi -final, with Indiana ultimately winning the series by getting the kinks in the garden out with a historical shooting performance in game 7.
Since this was the ninth playoff meeting between the rivals, we classified the first eight matchups filled-filled with head butts, celebrity-run-ins, classic comebacks, series injuries, phantom four-point items and iconic blocks of blocks for one of this year's series for one worthy next chapter.

In one of Miller's most famous moments, he scored eight points in nine seconds when the Knicks made a lead of six points in the last 19 seconds to lose game 1 at home.
The Pacers built a 3-1 series in the lead, but New York returned to force a game 7, just so that Patrick Ewing missed a potential finger finger roll of the rear edge when the last buzzer sounded. (He had made a dramatic turnaround floater with a 1.8 second lead to win the game 5.)
With the victory of the series, Miller and the Pacers not only closed the kinks on the garden floor, but also the Riley era. The coach resigned with New York 10 days later with his appearance and, controversial, agreed to take over Miami Heat as a coach and team president. (New York accused Miami of manipulating manipulation while Riley was still under contract. A settlement $ 1 million and a selection in the first round of the heat solder Riley to officially accept the job.)

After Michael Jordan was withdrawn from the NBA to play professional baseball, there was a golden opportunity for both clubs who dealt in game 5 of the conference final.
The Knicks were double digits for most of the game, in which Miller turned badly and gave Knicks fan and legendary filmmaker Spike Lee ammunition to repeat the guard. But Miller caught fire in the fourth quarter and stared at Lee Courtside every time he hit a shot. After a particularly long Müller triple that gave Indiana the lead, he looked at Lee and put both hands around his own neck.
Miller would end game 5 with 39 points-25 at just 10 shots in the fourth, to lead Indiana to the breathtaking comeback and a 3-2 series. But New York dug deeply and won the 6 -game -6 territory behind the 26 points of Guard John Starks. A performance for the age of Ewing -24 points, 22 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks and the winner -Putback Dunk -swung up the 7 -7 player and crush the Knicks into the final.
3. Ostfinale 1999
The new Knicks with Lockout-Jahr with Latrell Sprwell instead of Starks and Marcus Camby instead of Oakley-Verlor Ewing against a partially torn Achilles tendon that he suffered (but played through) in game 2 of the series.
But this series is most memory of what happened in game 3. With the Pacers in the garden with almost 12 second lead, Indiana coach Larry Brown intends its players to implement a narrow perimeter report to avoid that he gives up a triple. Knick's striker Larry Johnson caught the inbound pass, pumped Davis to get him out of balance, and then let a 24-foot attempt fly.
It found the floor of the network, while the official Jess Kersey blew his pipe for a foul – a dubious one, since Davis didn't make much contact with Johnson, if at all. (Even Kersey himself admitted a year later that the call was a mistake.) Johnson ended the four-point game, the Knicks won game 3 and finally won the series to meet the Spurs in the final.

In the first games of this series there was a handful of huge moments: namely the bizarre violations of the ball towards the end of game 1, which would not have whistled (and clearly disadvantaged the Pacers) and the depth 3 of Andrew Nembhard, who helped Indiana Seal 3, keep the club up to date in the series. Above all, however, Tyrese Haliburton, Pascal Siakam and the Pacers put together a flat dominant game 7 on the street, which hung 39 points on the Knicks in the first quarter alone.
This initial flood was a sign of the upcoming things. In a competition, Indy shot a playoff record of 67.1% out of the field, in which the already banging Knicks became even thinner. OG Anunoby tried his best to return to the line -up after stopping in the series, but could hardly move and was quickly eradicated. Star Guard Jalen Brunson broke his hand during the game. Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and Bojan Bogdanovic – All important members of the Knicks rotation – had already been excluded for the season. For this reason, you can bet that the players from this Knicks team, who led the series 3: 2 before they lost twice in a row, enjoy the shot on revenge, even if they will not say this publicly.

Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks adjustments in the six-game series gave the top paacers defense listed by Paul George and Roy Hibbert. In particular, No. 2-Seed New York was unable to pull Pacers Big Man Hibbert out of the basket and could not score comfortably around the edge.
The clearest example of this: with five minutes remaining in the Clincher and the Knicks 92-90, Anthony had a step on George and Spun Baseline before attacking the basket. He set off for a unit Dunk, but the 7-2 hibbert met it there for a highlight block.
Hibbert said that he had two posters of the block – probably the defining game in his career – in his house.
6. 2000 East Finale
Miller saved his best for the last way in a way, hit one crowd-silencing dagger after the other and scored 34 points in the garden 5: 7 to switch off the kinks on their home floor in six games. This Matchup was the last playoff meeting between the clubs, in which both Miller and Ewing were involved, which were 34 and 37. (Ewing missed games 3 and 4 with an injured foot.)
The victory in Indiana earned the franchise its first and only trip to the NBA final, where the Pacers Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Phil Jackson and Los Angeles Lakers would fall.

Stephen A. and John Starks are excited about the victory of the Knicks
Stephen A. Smith and John Starks cannot contain their excitement to “SportsCenter” after the Knicks have removed the Celtics.
The 60-Sieg Knicks had the chance to sweep Indiana in three games (the league did not switch to the best-of-Seven in the first round until 2003), but Starks has Miller ahead with his team in the third quarter.
The decision raised him, pushed angry by Oakley and Ewing and also completely changed the swing of the game. The Pacers made a 59-34 run for the rest of the game to ward off the excretion. Fortunately for Starks, the Knicks completed the Pacers in game 4.
8. 1998 Ost -semi -final
The 58-victory pacers, which added Chris Mulllin and Jalen in the previous offseason, had a clear advantage in this series: The Knicks had played for months without Ewing, which had destroyed his shooting joint in a devastating fall against the Milwaukee Bucks shortly before Christmas. New York managed to reach Riley and the heat in the first round, but dropped his first game with Indiana.
The 1-0 deficit prompted Ewing, which returned for game 2, but with far too much rust to achieve an immediate influence.
The series ended in five games, with Indiana using her elite equilibrium of the fourth best offensive of the league and the fifth best defense to record a showdown for conference finals with Jordan and the “Last Dance” bulls.

Looking for more drama? You have found the right series. After the Pacers won in seven games in 2024, Haliburton wore a sweater with a picture of Miller that made his famous choke signal for Spike Lee and strengthened the Pacers Point Guard as Madison Square Garden in the same way as Trae Young became one.
Even the WWE typed the scenario and carried out a confrontation between Brunson and Haliburton when the Pro -Wrestling tour came into the garden. “WWE, they cooked when they did,” said Brunson about the chance that the Knicks and Pacers appear back in the playoffs after the stunt.
Brunson said he had a lot of respect for Haliburton, who was elected via the Knicks star for the US Olympic roster, who won the gold medal last year. The two got to know each other as teammates during the 2023 World Cup.
If this series continues the wild scripts at the end of the game that both followed both teams, this Matchup could scale this list as one of the best Knicks-Pacers playoff showdowns.
Both teams had two unlikely, 20-point comeback on the goats and cavaliers for Indiana and twice against the Celtics for the Knicks in this post-season. And Haliburton and Brunson were two of the best performers when it is important. The Knicks' Floor General leads the playoffs in coupling baskets with 14, while the Indiana star has a league best four who only looks at this post-season in the last minute of the games.
