While there are many love stories to be admired in the royal family, Queen Elizabeth ll and Prince PhilipThe bond especially deserves a celebration.
On April 9, the royal family issued a statement that Philip had passed away at the age of 99. “It is with deep sadness that Her Majesty the Queen announced the death of her beloved husband, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh” read the statement. “HRH passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle this morning. The Royal Family and people around the world mourn his loss.”
Death leaves only a heartbreaking loss for the Queen who has had Philip in her life for nearly eight decades.
How did this love story begin? As it turned out, the couple first met when Elizabeth was 13 and Philip was 18. Thanks to the power of love letters, chemistry, and similar interests, the couple secretly got engaged in the summer of 1946.
