This Is Us has really been in a hot phase lately.
That’s not to say it’s not always at least a warm period because it’s been one of the best shows on TV for four and a half seasons consistently, but there’s something about the recent episodes that has been delivered in a way that we couldn’t. ‘I imagined it a few years ago. Everyone grows up, speaks things out, goes to therapy and says the things that have only bubbled beneath the surface since the first episode. It turns out that dad problems are profound and last into adulthood, especially when that dad is Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia).
For the past few weeks we’ve been watching Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) come to meaningful moments in their lives. Now a father and fiancée, Kevin hopes to have his estranged brother as his best man. Randall now knows the truth about his birth parents and has grappled with his complicated feelings about all of the different facets of his family.
Kevin came to visit tonight and the two brothers had to grapple with jealousy and anger for life while the audience was treated thanks to an unhelpful context Mr. Rogers.
