Trump's return could 'undo' climate progress, says Sally Jewell
The former Interior Secretary said she was “horrified” by what a second Trump administration could mean for climate and environmental policy.

Sally Jewell, US Secretary of the Interior from 2013 to 2017, said the climate “could not be more at stake” in the November election and that she was “genuinely afraid for the future of our planet” if former President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
“Backtracking is not acceptable,” Jewell told attendees of the Bloomberg Green Festival in Seattle on Thursday. “I can't stress enough how important it is to continue the progress we've made over the last three years on climate change,” she added, particularly the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the anti-inflation bill.

One of the biggest hurdles on the road to net zero is that consumers still aren't paying to put carbon into the atmosphere, Jewell said. Economic incentives are needed: “Until we start shining a spotlight on the true impacts, I don't think people are going to start changing their behavior.”

“We are all part of an ecosystem that needs to work together,” she said. “We need to pull out all the stops now because this is a level five fire.”
