Apple veteran Larry Jackson is launching a new company that will take the music industry by storm

On March 8, Billboard announced that former Apple executive Larry Jackson is launching a new business venture called Gamma, which will allow major artists and brands to collaborate across music, movies, merchandise, fashion and other fields.

Jackson, who left Apple Music in September after gifting the company seven years, has remained silent about his next move since joining, but people were expecting big things on his horizon given his longstanding relationships with some of the top stars of our time, including Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Gamma was co-founded by former Interscope CFO Ike Youssef and reportedly has $1 billion in equity and debt, according to Variety.

Usher & Rick Ross join Larry Jackson in his new business venture

The first artists to join the Gamma List were Usher & Rick Ross, and according to Billboard, a stake in the Death Row catalog acquired from Snoop Dogg is said to be part of this new venture.

Sources have reportedly told Variety that Jackson is also “aiming at signing Travis Scott, who has one more album on his deal with Epic Records,” and they are on the lookout for Dr. Dre’s catalogue, which recently sold for $200 million.

Gamma focuses on three pillars: content creation, content distribution, and developing the artist-centric business enterprise that allows them to stay connected to diverse segments in the music business.

In December 2022, Larry Jackson acquired the distribution platform Vydia and brought its employees into his new company. He even struck a podcast deal with our founder, Angelica Nwandu.

We are very pleased to announce that Vydia has been acquired by Gamma.

Gamma. was founded by Apple Music’s former Global Creative Director Larry Jackson and veteran music executive Ike Youssef with financial backing from Eldridge, Apple and A24.

Billboards appeared on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and Times Square in New York, suggesting that something big was in the works.

Sources even say Jackson and LA Reid, former chairman of Epic Records, Island Def Jam & Arista, are working to acquire the rights to Usher’s latest album in his deal with RCA Records for an undisclosed amount and a percentage of the project.

Not many people can raise $1 billion for a new business and passion venture, so it’s fair to say that Mr. Jackson isn’t playing games!

Roommates, what kind of business would you start if someone invested $1 billion to get you started?
