Acne is so annoying. Whether you're a teenager suffering from inflammatory and cystic acne, struggling with hormonal acne in your twenties, or an adult acne sufferer trying to fade acne scars, no one actually wants to have a pimple. This isn't just a facial problem – acne can also affect the chest, back and shoulders.
Although there are tons of products and advice dedicated to clearing facial acne, we couldn't help but notice the lack of information on how to get rid of stubborn acne on the chest and back once and for all. We have certified dermatologist Dr. Brendan Camp discusses dealing with acne-prone skin and body blemishes, as well as treatment options to help you get your body acne under control.
Why does body acne occur?
According to Dr. Camp acne most often occurs in areas of the body with a high concentration of sebaceous glands.
This means that acne often forms and causes breakouts on areas such as the face, chest and back. Sure, facial acne can be caused by oily skin, dry skin, hormones, inflammation, or not removing your makeup. But why can acne also appear on the rest of the skin? And is it different from a pimple on your face?
“Back acne, like facial acne, can be associated with increased oil production, hormonal changes, exercise, and sweat accumulation,” explains Dr. Camp.
“Body acne, such as: “Acne on the chest and pimples on the back and shoulders can also be triggered by friction, tight clothing and anabolic steroid use.”
