Copa America 2021: Here’s how
One of the 10 South American nations that make up the CONMEBOL football association becomes continental champion at the Copa America. The 10 teams were divided into two groups of five, with the top four in each group going through to the quarter-finals. This was followed by a pure knockout phase with a single elimination game that began with the quarter-finals.
Group stage: After the round robin group game, the top four in each of the two groups reached the quarter-finals and the fifth-placed team in each group was eliminated.
Knockout phase: The single-elimination knockout started with the quarterfinals. The four teams qualifying from group A met the four teams ascending from group B, with the best-placed teams facing the lowest-placed teams in the opposing group: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B, 2B vs. 3A .
