Damar Hamlin thanks the medical workforce who saved his life

Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is making his road to recovery after suffering cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January. However, Hamlin isn’t taking all the praise for his return to health. And shines a massive spotlight on the medical team that saved his life.

Damar Hamlin thanked his medical team at the NFL Honors

The annual NFL Honors awards ceremony typically recognizes the league’s best players and accomplishments. However, this year’s awards ceremony highlighted the extraordinary medical team that saved the 24-year-old’s life.

Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph introduced Damar Hamlin and the group of first responders to viewers at home and in-house celebrities and NFL guests. The audience greeted the group with a standing ovation. Then Hamlin took the microphone.

First I just want to thank God for being here in the first place… Sudden Cardiac Arrest was not something I ever chose to be a part of my story. But that’s because sometimes our own visions are too small… My vision was to play in the NFL and be the best player that I could be.

But God’s plan was to have a purpose greater than any game in this world.

Hamlin went on to say that he has a “long journey ahead of him”. And added that it will be filled with “unknowns” and “milestones”.

But it’s a lot easier to face your fears when you know your purpose.

Hamlin went on to share his interaction with a hospital doctor who had a similar medical experience. And how that affected his life.

The 24-year-old thanked first responders who surrounded him as he spoke. And pulled them all together for a group hug.

I want to say a special thank you to everyone on this stage for everything they have done for me. And I thank everyone around the world who has prayed and hoped for me. The journey continues.

“The journey will continue.” ❤️💙
