Tokyo – Shortstop Mookie Betts will miss the two exhibition games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Japan because of an illness, said manager Dave Roberts on Saturday.
Roberts said he still hoped that the eight-time all-star will be available for the team's first regular season game against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday in the Tokyo Dome. The Dodgers will play the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers – two teams from Japan – in exhibition games on Saturday and Sunday.

Roberts said that the 32-year-old beds felt flu-like symptoms during the last day of the team in Arizona, but the team doctors said he was okay to take the long trip to Japan.
“Mookie is here today, but he was really sick,” said Roberts. “I have lost some weight, so we try to make it hydrated. He will train a little today, but he won't play tomorrow tonight.
“When we have our day, our training day, we will see how he is doing.”
Betts makes the full -time crossing to Shortstop this season after playing most of his career in the right field and in the second basis. The AL MVP 2018 hit 19 Homern and 75 RBI .289 last season and helped the Dodgers to win the World Series.
