How did The Domino employees Naser Khanfar and Sara Jones save the 8-year-old?

According to PEOPLE, authorities received calls around 1:15 a.m. on Monday, October 7, reporting a fire. The fire was reportedly in a mobile home in the Airway Mobile Home Community.

“We do not believe the call came from inside the apartment as the father and one of his sons were able to evacuate themselves.” Oak Lawn Fire Department Chief Mike McMillin said in a statement.

The father and his 12-year-old son were reportedly trying to get the 8-year-old out of the RV when Khanfar and Jones noticed the scene, according to the Chicago Tribune. The couple was reportedly closing a local Domino's location.

“We saw the trailer burning and the father and son trying to get another son out through the trailer.” Khanfar explained to reporters. “The father and I broke the windows to get the boy outside.”

The outlet reports that once firefighters arrived, firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 30 minutes.

How is the child doing after the house fire?

According to NBC Chicago, the family's trailer was “destroyed” following the incident. According to the Chicago Tribune, Khanfar told authorities that when the boy exited the RV, he noticed the eight-year-old was “shaking” and saw “some blood coming out.”

The father and his sons were then reportedly taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. They reportedly suffered “varying degrees of smoke inhalation.” Meanwhile, the father is said to have suffered “superficial burns to his neck and shoulders”. Nevertheless, he and his eldest child were reportedly treated and released.

In the meantime, the eight-year-old was held for further observation. According to PEOPLE, as of Friday, October 11, there have been no serious reports of injuries from the fire.

“It’s good that people are willing to get involved and help” Chief McMillin reportedly added.

The Chicago Tribune notes that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A recent fire in Georgia is also making headlines

Meanwhile, a recent fire in Georgia also made headlines. As The Shade Room previously reported, a fire broke out at a BioLab in Conyers on September 29th. This was reportedly caused by a malfunction of the sprinkler system, which resulted in the water mixing with water-reactive chemicals.

The incident eventually led to residents being evacuated as fumes contaminated the area.

Rockdale County Soil and Water Conservation District Manager Kenny Johnson reportedly died on October 9 after speaking out about the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reportedly conducting an autopsy on his body.
