New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias is headed to the MLB All-Star Game – but not in the way you might expect.

Iglesias, 34, has made a strong return to the show this season after spending 2023 in the minors. Since being called up by the Mets in late May, he has a .347 batting average, with his first career game highlighting two home runs in a win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

But the veteran's performance on the field is not the reason he is going to Texas.

On June 28, Iglesias, under the stage name Candelita, officially released his debut single, “OMG.” The pop song recently debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Latin Digital Song Sales survey. Hype around the song steadily increased after Iglesias signed with New York, and the song gained notoriety around the Mets' team and throughout Citi Field.

The next stage for “OMG”? Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, where Iglesias – or Candelita – will perform the song as part of the event's various festivities.

This isn't the first time Iglesias has sung the song in front of a live audience. He performed a show for the Mets' Kids Club before New York's series finale against the Rockies.

The song's live debut also took place at Citi Field, when Iglesias performed live for fans remaining after the Mets' 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros.
