Lil Uzi Vert responds to backlash surrounding Devil’s lyrics

After some backlash surrounding his Rolling Loud performance, Lil Uzi Vert is taking the time to clarify the situation.

Notably, after getting upset about rapping that he “can get a city girl to believe in Satan,” Uzi talks about how the lyrics are “not really” about the devil.

Lil Uzi Vert says JT didn’t think too much about the reference

TMZ recently caught up with the rapper while out and about in Beverly Hills, and — after revealing the song in question will be on his upcoming album — he addressed the controversy.

Uzi quickly clarified that the lyrics “actually don’t [about] Satan.” Instead, he says it really focuses on pointing out how he’s able to “get a girl to do anything” he says.

When asked what JT thought of the lyrics in question, Uzi replied that she “really didn’t think too much about it.” He added that JT knew about the reference and was present when he made the song.

Uzi says the haters just need to chill

As the conversation continued, Lil Uzi Vert opened up about not worrying about possible backlash as he expresses his “freedom of speech” through his poetry.

“I really don’t even pay attention to them saying that. I just say what I want in my songs – it’s like my freedom of speech.”

He pointed out that he grew up in a “real religious household” and as an adult he just says whatever he wants to say.”

Uzi also noted that while he doesn’t want to be offensive with his music, listeners always have “the option to turn it off”.

“They probably just need to relax a bit.”

Finally, we have to add that—to the question of whether he “believes[s] in Satan” – Uzi simply answered “no” before giving a shy grin.

Summer Walker & Others Lyrics: “Nothing Funny or Cute About It”

While we’re on the subject, it’s worth noting that Summer Walker expressed her disapproval of the verse in question on social media last week.

After quoting the rapper’s lyrics, Summer shared that she was “really curious” if he’s “ever seen or heard a demon before.” She then frankly wondered if that indicated a trend, proclaiming, “I have a feeling if you would stop playing.”

The singer added, “Really nothing funny or cute about it. May God be with you all.”

So it sounds like Summer isn’t a fan of Lil Uzi giving Satan a shout-out, and she’s not alone! Check out what some other reviewers had to say below.

Smh to see Carti and Uzi become devil worshipers and now glorify satan in their music… I will never be with it even as a day 1 fan https://t.co/eBsCnXbncc

How do you assess the overall situation and do you find that critics are overreacting?
