Miami Dolphins obtain a three-year extension of $ 39 million with LB Jerome Baker

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a three-year contract extension with linebacker Jerome Baker worth $ 39 million, including a $ 28.4 million guarantee, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Dolphins later announced the extension but did not disclose any financial terms.

Baker is one of the defensive leaders of the Dolphins and brings energy on and off the field. He specializes in pass coverage and helped the Dolphins grow from their worst defense (30.9 points per allowed game) in 2019 to fifth-placed defense (21.1) in 2020.

Baker, a third round election in 2018, was nearing the final year of his rookie deal. He was asked about his outstanding vacancy last week and where he saw Miami in the picture. It was a premonition of this deal.

“I want to play here for the rest of my career. I love it here. I love the fans. I love the organization. I love everyone here,” said Baker. “Yeah, I’ve definitely seen myself playing here for a long time.”

Baker, 24, gets his wish as he is supposed to stay in Miami for the next four seasons.

Now the eyes are on another draft pick 2018 by the Dolphins and the upcoming free agent tight end Mike Gesicki for a possible extension in 2022.

Baker had a career high of seven sacks and seven tackles for the loss last season in a new hybrid linebacker role. He also surpassed 100 tackles (112) for the second time in a row and has never missed a game in his NFL career.
