Tokyo-Los Angeles Dodgers Shortstop Mookie Betts is still fighting to recover from an illness. Manager Dave Roberts is pessimistic that the eight-time all-star will be ready in Japan on Tuesday for the opening day against the Chicago Cubs.
Betts was able to do easy training on Sunday, but quickly got tired.
“Understandably showed really fatigue,” said Roberts. “We'll see how he will come in tomorrow. He should be here for training. We will try to do a little more tomorrow.”

Roberts said on Saturday that Betts in Arizona started flu -like symptoms one day before the team to Japan. He still did the long aircraft trip, but did not recover as quickly as it had hoped and missed the two exhibition games of the Dodgers against Japanese teams at the weekend.
Roberts said Betts had to show a significant improvement on Monday to play against the Cubs.
“In order to be able to go through all training session and not to feel that the same fatigue would give us a chance,” said Roberts. “But everything outside of it, I just don't think our training staff would feel good.”
Betts have not taken live bats for almost a week.
“We really try not only to aware of the opening day,” said Roberts. “Don't put it in danger. … We don't want to put him in the position where it can be injured.”
Betts makes a full -time crossing to Shortstop this season after playing most of his career in the right field and in the second basis. The MVP of the American League 2018 met 19 Homern and 75 RBIs .289 last season and helped the Dodgers to win the World Series.
