Nelly explains his decision to perform at Donald Trump's inauguration
Previously, The Shade Room reported that Nelly was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump's inauguration ball on Monday, January 20. The news first broke when CBS reporter Taurean Smalls shared it on X (formerly Twitter) on January 17.
Now the St. Louis host explains his decision to attend the celebration for Donnie. Nelly joined the rapper Willie D for a conversation on YouTube in which he addressed his election – which drew numerous reactions on social media.
In the video interview, Nelly made it clear that he was not attending Trump's inaugural ball for the money.
“I don’t do this for money. I do this because it is [honor]. I respect the office. It doesn't matter who is in office. Just as our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country must go to war and risk their lives for whoever holds the office. So if they can put their lives on the line for anyone in office, I can damn sure put their lives on the line for anyone in office,” Nelly explained.
Willie D also pointed out the backlash Nelly has received since it was announced he was part of the initial Ball lineup. He even asked Nelly how he would respond to people who called him out for supporting a white supremacist. But the rapper directly said he needed proof that Donald Trump was a white supremacist. “I would ask them to show me where he is a white supremacist.” Nelly added.
