The Phillie Phanatic strikes again.
Known as the best mascot in baseball – and truly one of the best in all sports – the Phanatic added another great troll during the interleague series matchup between Philadelphia and the Yankees over the weekend.
The Phanatic came out between innings, clad and in a tuxedo and tailcoat – Frank Sinatra-esque – on the theme of “New York, New York”. The Phanatic used a musical cue to smash a Yankee helmet, much to the delight of the public at Citizens Bank Park.
Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton didn’t seem too pleased with the ordeal before the Phanatic sped off on its ATV. (Stanton isn’t someone you probably want to tick off, by the way.)
The Phillies would take a sovereign 7-3 lead over the Yankees late in the game, while the Phanatic antics in New York apparently started something: the Bombers would level the game in the ninth inning but eventually lose 8-7 in extras.
The Phightin ‘Phills not only stormed back into the game, they also stormed back to .500 with a record of 31-31. They entered Sunday’s matchup against the Yankees, the winners of five of their last six games.
The Phillies gave the Yankees a loss and the Phanatic remains undefeated.
