The scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is an oceanologist and studied physics before his specialist training. He is therefore familiar with the thermodynamics and its 2nd law, which states that the “disorder” increases with every change of state, also known as an entropy. This is reflected in the warming. Growing entropy is a fundamental feature of our universe; Without investing work, everything tends to disorder.
You probably know this phenomenon. The growing entropy also prevents eternal movement machines; Each work machine also generates friction and thus warmth and inevitably a loss of useful energy. What does that have to do with Stefan Rahmstorf?
He published the following article on January 14, 2025 on Twitter (now X):

[In English: “Nuclear energy, whether from fusion or fission, has the problem of waste heat, just like fossil fuel energy. It is still small compared to CO2, but it will soon become a relevant warming problem with the growing energy demand by mankind.”]
In his tweet, he complains that nuclear energy generates garbage heat and therefore represents another relevant problem for our planet, which is warm up due to greenhouse gases.
A clever reader will remember this astrophysicist Professor Harald Lesch also advocated exactly this thesis, even in a lecture before teachers (!). He also did not take into account that all converted energy (whether from wind, sun or warmth) ultimately leads to an increase in entropy, ie to heat. Everything depends on the order of magnitude.
If humanity generates energy by burning carbon (which leads to the production of the gas -Co2 “greenhouse”), the problem of order of magnitude is higher. It reduces the output of heat by radiation into space and collects its effect in the atmosphere, the warmth does not. This has long been known from scientific literature.
What was the proportion of total consumption with low CO2 in Germany in January 2025?
Share of the electricity produced in Germany
Solar, wind and hydropower plants of total consumption
How much of the total consumption was carbon burning, the “calm” in the diagram? Unfortunately, the average for the month was 61% or only 39% with carbon -rich carbon flow. It fluctuated between the outstanding 9% and completely inadequate 93% if they analyze the hourly dates of “Agora Energy Wende”.
In Germany, 90 GW solar energy and 69 GW with low CO2 wind power were installed; Only around half of the entire renewable capacity would have been used if the “installed capacity” would have been available.
In reality, however, photovoltaics only contributed 2%to total consumption, wrap 29%and fluctuated between 1.7 and 67%. Renewable energies alone are therefore not really suitable for solving the problem of CO2 emissions. The weather at about 50 ° north width is too changeable. This would be the logical conclusion of “climate enthusiasts” such as professors Stefan Rahmstorf and Harald Lesch.
And why, regardless of the weather, completely counter-physical preliminary walls against the also low electricity generation with low CO2 stream through nuclear energy? We don't know. We only know that you are talking about nonsense to oppose the technologies with low CO2, which was also recommended by the IPCC “Climate Council”, 6th evaluation report of Working Group III, as a necessary addition to renewable energies.
Doubts of the greenhouse effect are sometimes rightly accused of denying the climate problem. But what do Rahmstorf, Lesch and Co. do when they reject everything except green energies, which is probably very insufficiently able to solve the climate problem (as shown in January 2025) by swearing through physics?
They hinder the solution to the problem very effectively. In the end, it hardly makes a difference to the result whether you do not see the challenge or if you only want to adequately accept with the help of false arguments.
