Richards saves the day for the USMNT, however there are questions.

Austin, Texas-Die first half was a brutal watch for those who are sitting in the stands at half a full Q2 stadium. The American men's national team fought with an amazingly damp 96-degree evening and was banned 0-0 against an organized Saudi Arabia team in his second game of the Gold Cup Group.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino looked annoyed in his wild squad, who was sluggish, lackluster and no dynamic-a strong contrast of the mood in the 5-0 struggle of Trinidad and Tobago at the American tournament on Sunday.

“We want to win, but at the same time it should help the players to appear and knock [on] The door and say: “We can appear for the national team and we can be involved in the next World Cup,” said Pochettino after the previous victory and looked completely confident for the upcoming game against Saudi Arabia.

“This is what I expect. Win and the players really believe that they have the opportunity …[to] Fight for a place in the World Cup. “

With many starters and key figures that were missing in the list of this summer, the narrative for an emerging attack name or a fringe option (such as Diego Luna) was presented to save the day against Saudi Arabia. Instead, the star of the night – someone who is familiar with the Texas Heat – was defender Chris Richards.

The FA Cup winner (with Crystal Palace) to give the USMNT a 1-0 lead was not immersed in the FA Cup winner (with Crystal Palace) in a cross from Sebastian Berhalter from a free kick. He did not miss the Sotsplatz in the Gold Cup quarter-finals with two wins from two games to open the competition.

Richards celebrated the goal with far and apparently better than every member of the attack. He was not only the savior with his goal, but also served as a memory of the resilience that this USMNT service plan – this summer there was a lack of many important players – at the Gold Cup.

Let's not forget the best game of the first half in which Richards were also involved. Long before his destination, Richards ensured a defensive intervention in the 31st minute, which was also worthy of his goal. Apart from the goal itself, his statistics also speak for themselves. Five causes, two blocked shots, a success rate of 100% in air duels, 95% accuracy rate with its 74 passenger-die list continues for a memorable night for the 25-year-old who played with FC Dallas in the entire state of Academy Soccer.

But these are the good news for the USMNT. The bad news? Pochettino cannot rely exactly on one of his central defenders to save the team in every game.

As great as Richards on Thursday, the opposite could be said by most other XI who still have a lot to prove in this gold cup. Back to what Pochettino previously said, the hope of not only being successful in international competition was to find more squad depth for the 12 -month World Cup.

In a summer, in which Marquee headliner Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah, Giovanni Reyna, Antonee Robinson, Yunus Musah and SergiƱo Dest (for a variety of reasons) 5-0 last Sunday last Sunday last Sunday last Sunday.

Richards, a likely starter in a best XI, is far from it. While the outstanding player on Thursday, who officially booked a place in the Knockout round, should be praised a lot.

And if this continues, they may not take much longer beyond the quarter -finals.

If you cannot afford other title contesters such as Canada and Mexico, Pochettino and the rest of Richards teammates, it cannot afford it as predictable and sluggish as on Thursday. You will have a last TuneUp with a group stage against Haiti on Sunday, but after that the real fiery tests will far exceed the real conditions in Austin.

But at least against Saudi Arabia in a result that avoided an early Gold Cup disaster, fans of the USMNT can easily rest that Richards could safely extinguish the fire.
