A jury retired to take into account her judgments on Monday in the trial of Australia and Chelsea striker Sam Kerr, who contested the indictment of causing racially tightened harassment.

The 31-year-old called the policeman Stephen Lovell “stupid and white” during an incident in the southwest of London on January 30, 2023.

It is said that Kerr and her partner, the midfielder of the United States and West Ham, Kristie Mewis, had drunk when they were driven by a taxi driver to a police station that complained about it, and he smashed it from them Use window of the vehicle.

At the police station, Kerr is said to have become offensive against Lovell. Kerr assumed to call him “stupid and white” during a heated exchange, but during the trial on the Kingston Crown Court she denied that she was the indictment.

Kerr denied to “use white as an insult” and said: “I believed that he started his power and privilege about me because he accused me of being something I am not.”

Kerr told the court that she was “caught” with Mewis in the back of the taxi and feared for her life, shortly before Mewis broke the rear window of the vehicle.

The taxi driver has remained anonymous throughout the legal proceedings, which occurred on Monday on her sixth day, and has never been called to provide evidence as a witness.

Kerr, who identified himself as a white Anglo Indian, also told the court that she believed that the police “treated me differently because they were perceived as the color of my skin.”

She is captain and leading goal scorer for Australia with 69 goals since her debut in 2009. Kerr came to Chelsea in 2019 and scored 99 goals in 128 games for the West London Club.

Kerr has not played since an ACL injury in January 2024 during a training camp with warm weather with Chelsea in Morocco. It is expected that she will return to the plot in the coming weeks.
