Sorry Gen Xers and Millennials, MTV Information is ending after 36 years

It’s the end of an MTV era.

According to multiple outlets, the channel’s MTV News division was closed 36 years after its inception.

The closure comes after the channel’s parent company “made the very tough but necessary decision to reduce our homegrown team by about 25 percent,” he said Chris McCarthyPresident of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, in an employee note received by Variety.

“This is a difficult but important strategic realignment of our group,” the memo said. “By eliminating some units and streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward.”

MTV News was first launched in 1987 with The Week in Rock, a news program from Kurt Loeder. The show was later renamed MTV News, including: SuChin Pak, Gideon Iago And Meredith Graves They have acted as music and pop culture correspondents over the years.
