Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and extra reply to Damian Lillard’s unbelievable efficiency in Sport 5

Kevin Durant said it best: Watching Damian Lillard at work is a “spiritual experience”.

The Trail Blazers star exploded for 55 points in the fifth game Tuesday night, but the Nuggets survived the attack to claim a 147-140 double win in overtime. Lillard shot an absurd 17 out of 24 from the field, 12 out of 17 from 3-point and 9 out of 10 from the free-throw line while throwing in 10 assists, six rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

Lillard set the NBA playoff record for the most 3-pointers in a game and became the first player in league history to score at least 50 points, 10 assists, and 10 3-pointers in a regular season or playoff game. He also had the third most points in a playoff loss behind only Michael Jordan (63) and Donovan Mitchell (57).

But it wasn’t just the numbers themselves that stunned NBA fans and players – it was how Lillard carried Portland onto the track, too. He hit the triple that put the game into extra time (after a controversial foul).

Denver jumped out for an early lead but Lillard refused to let the game slip away.

And he forced another hour of overtime because … of course he did.

When he actually missed a shot, Nuggets security guard Austin Rivers looked up at the sky and said, “Thank God.”

Unfortunately for Lillard, his Trail Blazers teammates didn’t offer much help on the track and the Nuggets walked away with a 3-2 lead.

“It doesn’t matter. We lost the game,” said Lillard after Game 5. “I mean, the only thing that matters at the moment is that we don’t lose another game in this series.”
