What Thomas Matthew Crooks allegedly told his colleagues before the assassination

According to USA Today, Crooks worked as a “nutritionist” at the Bethel Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The center is reportedly located “less than a mile” from his family's home. Earlier this week, the center's director, Marcie Grimm, released a statement in response to Crooks' attempt to assassinate Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13.

Grimm said at the time that she was “shocked and saddened when she learned of his involvement.”

Since then, new information has been reported about what Crooks told his boss before the shooting, according to CNN.

“I need the day off, I have something important to do,” Crooks said, according to The Independent.

Both media outlets have not disclosed whether Crooks told his boss on Saturday, July 13, that he needed the day off, or whether his request was already communicated in the days before. However, The Independent reports that Crooks specifically told his colleagues that he would see them on Sunday, July 14.

This is what allegedly happened in the hours before the shooting at Trump's rally

According to CNN, Crooks' father, Matthew Brian Crooks, believed his son took the family rifle to the shooting range on July 13. Additionally, Matthew believed his son would return at 1 p.m. that afternoon.

However, when it was 11 p.m. that evening, Matthew reported his son missing.

Meanwhile, Thomas had reportedly stopped at Home Depot hours earlier. He also purchased a ladder at the store before driving to Butler, according to USA Today. The crooks reportedly parked their car over a hundred yards from the venue before using the ladder to climb onto a rooftop with an “AR-15-style weapon.”

The outlet reports that a crowd tried to warn authorities of Crooks' presence, but the 20-year-old was able to fire “at least five shots.” One shot grazed Donald Trump's right ear, another killed 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, and others injured two other people, according to The Shade Room.

The following has been revealed about Thomas Matthew Crooks so far

CNN notes that after the shooting, “multiple law enforcement sources” reported that Crooks' car contained “a bulletproof vest, three fully loaded magazines and two remote-controlled explosive devices.”

As the outlet reports, investigators are not yet sure whether Crooks planned to use the items after escaping the shooting.

Investigators are currently still investigating Crooks' motive for the shooting. Meanwhile, former classmates of the 20-year-old have spoken out about his character after recordings emerged showing that he was apparently bullied in high school.
