Tottenham Hotspur has released their new away kit for the 2021-22 season, and it’s fair to say that while the kit is widely divided, everyone has an opinion on it.
When Spurs released the sleek design for next season’s home shirt in May, the all-white t-shirt received mixed responses as one person’s “classic” look was another’s “ultra bland” look.
As if to restore balance, the north London club and manufacturer Nike have made sure that the accompanying away shirt could not be more different.

The shirt has a dark base dotted with a pattern of swirling cosmic nebulae of psychedelic color placed somewhere between images of outer space and a Grateful Dead album cover.
The club’s coat of arms and the sponsor logos shine in a shrill “Venom Green” that sets them apart from the metagalactic pattern.

Fortunately, both the shorts and the socks that complete the away kit are black. But despite this creative concession, the kit is certainly one of the most distinctive and groundbreaking the Premier League has ever seen.
The retina-disturbing print is, according to the manufacturer, deliberately “expressive” and is intended to represent the collective creativity of artists and “local minds” in one of the most diverse areas of London – however, further information is not offered.

As you’d expect, the jersey received varying degrees of shock and impressions on social media, and Spurs urged their followers to describe it in one word, generating reactions from across the spectrum of approval.

Some fans poked their heads over the parapet to express their admiration – reluctantly or not – for the unusual performance.
I know half of Spur’s Twitter hates it, but that could be in my top 3 away kits we’ve ever had. Love! https://t.co/BCliGxhGH5

The new Spurs away shirt is impressive. It legitimately looks like the Samsung Galaxy Fortnite Skin (but I don’t hate it). pic.twitter.com/OO2DvzUcDl

I’m not sure if that was intended, but the new Spurs away kit immediately made me think of a black hole in a distant galaxy. Perhaps an apt symbol of life as a football fan. pic.twitter.com/XksG2il7kQ

Spurs handed official modeling duties to stars of the men’s and women’s teams, including Son Heung-Min, Davinson Sanchez and Ashleigh Neville.
Although star Harry Kane was the focus of the home kit launch campaign two months ago, he is not present in any of the away kit promotions.
This could be a light concern for some Spurs supporters as sources have told ESPN that the English captain has informed the club of his desire to leave and Premier League champions Manchester City are preparing a £ 100m offer to order to sign him this summer.
However, Kane’s absence is more likely due to his international involvement in Euro 2020 and his subsequent delayed summer break.
