Friday was a rough night for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The presumed top pick of the 2021 NFL Draft was overtaken by Justin Fields, a colleague from the US state of Ohio, in a 49-28 defeat in the semi-finals of the Sugar Bowl College Football Playoffs. He completed 33 of 48 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns to an interception. He’s also fumbled three times (lost one) in what will likely be the last game of his college career.
Bad as it was, none of it compares to the scathing criticism that Lawrence received after the game: An unidentified woman overheard her say at the Zoom conference, “Poor Trevor needs to shave his pain.”

This video is an unintended masterclass in comedy that stems from the woman’s interruption of Lawrence’s interruption, the host’s request to mute the microphone, Lawrence’s grin, and finally his dead “thank you.”
While Lawrence’s facial hair may be a little fluffy, it still doesn’t deserve such public reprimand, intentional or otherwise. But hey, maybe he can turn that into a razor or shaving cream recommendation. Because if you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
