The former Vampire Diaries star debuted her true identity during E! News’ Daily Pop on August 31.

“I think that we as entertainers have this identity that we have to give to the public and be presentable, and I think sometimes we forget our core and our truth,” Toro Gato explained exclusively today. “As our artist, I want to explore that with this Toro Gato project and this entire NFT collection. I wanted to sort of dismantle my former identity.”

The “SWIM” singer continued, “I’m actually burying myself in one of these films. So this is a new version. They say it’s the alter ego, but I actually think the more time I spend in this room, I think I mean that Kat is “the alter ego and I will become the West African, the ruler, the monster who is not afraid of anything that can appear without shoes. I think this is really fun and a terrible place.

Up to 95% of ocean surface climates may disappear by 2100 – Watts Up With That?

Between 35.6% and 95% of 20th century ocean surface climates — defined by surface water temperature, pH and the concentration of the mineral aragonite — may disappear by 2100, depending on how greenhouse gas emissions develop in the first half of the 21st century, according to a study published in Scientific Reports. The findings also suggest that between 10.3% and 82% of the global ocean may experience surface climates that have not existed before.  

Katie Lotterhos and colleagues modelled ocean climates globally for three time periods: the early 19th century (1795–1834), the late 20th century (1965–2004) and the late 21st century (2065–2104). The authors compared these modelled climates across various locations using two emission scenarios, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5. Under these scenarios the volume of greenhouse gases emitted during the 21st century either peaks in 2050 followed by a slowed increase, or peaks in 2100 followed by a slowed increase, respectively.   

Through their comparisons, the authors were able to show which ocean climates from the 19th and 20th centuries may no longer be found in the 21st century (disappearance), and climates that may emerge in the 21st century which did not exist in the 18th and 20th centuries (novel climates). The authors showed that while ocean climates did not change significantly between the 19th and 20th centuries, by 2100, 10% to 82% of the ocean surface may experience new climates with higher temperatures, more acidic pH, and lower saturation of aragonite. Aragonite is a mineral which corals and other marine organisms use to form shells. Under the RCP 4.5 scenario, 35.6% of surface ocean climates may disappear by 2100, which rises to up to 95% under the RCP 8.5 scenario.  

The authors conclude that while some marine species currently keep pace with changing ocean climates by dispersing to new habitats, this may no longer be possible if existing ocean climates disappear, forcing species to either adapt rapidly to new climates or disappear.

Abstract

Marine ecosystems are experiencing unprecedented warming and acidification caused by anthropogenic carbon dioxide. For the global sea surface, we quantified the degree that present climates are disappearing and novel climates (without recent analogs) are emerging, spanning from 1800 through different emission scenarios to 2100. We quantified the sea surface environment based on model estimates of carbonate chemistry and temperature. Between 1800 and 2000, no gridpoints on the ocean surface were estimated to have experienced an extreme degree of global disappearance or novelty. In other words, the majority of environmental shifts since 1800 were not novel, which is consistent with evidence that marine species have been able to track shifting environments via dispersal. However, between 2000 and 2100 under Representative Concentrations Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 projections, 10–82% of the surface ocean is estimated to experience an extreme degree of global novelty. Additionally, 35–95% of the surface ocean is estimated to experience an extreme degree of global disappearance. These upward estimates of climate novelty and disappearance are larger than those predicted for terrestrial systems. Without mitigation, many species will face rapidly disappearing or novel climates that cannot be outpaced by dispersal and may require evolutionary adaptation to keep pace.

Does D’Andre Swift play week 1?

Concern continues to grow with Swift’s availability in Week 1. Right now the thought is that Swift is going to be on the wrong side of “questionable” in Detroit’s opener. In other words, he’s more likely to miss week 1 than play. This is a little worrying as he missed three games in his rookie season. However, there is an opportunity to take advantage of this as your ADP will see some sort of decline. In PPR leagues, he will be especially valuable if he is healthy. Detroit also tacitly has one of the league’s better offensive lines on paper. We still say take it if it falls too far in your designs. You will likely be able to grab it in a place that won’t paralyze you in week 1.

Jamaal Williams and Jamar Jefferson will benefit from his absence. Williams has shown in the past that he can be fantasy relevant, and with Swift’s preseason injuries, he’s one of the best RB handcuffs in the NFL.

Swift is our No. 17 RB in Standard Leagues and No. 16 RB in PPR, although it looks like he could get him for a better price than these leaderboards.

AJ Brown / Julio Jones Injury Update

Brown and Jones were both at the Titans practice Monday, doing something that at least resembled playing football. They’ve both been running tracks and been active and that’s all we as fantasy owners need to hear. You’ve been in similar situations this off-season. Both of them would certainly play if a game came up, but the Titans were very careful with their superstar wide receiver duo. Brown is struggling with an unspecified knee injury but he would fit here again if there was a game today.

Jones’ injury was not disclosed, but the thought is that his absence is more of an extreme precautionary measure. In addition, Jones has rarely been in training for Atlanta in recent seasons. It’s just about not despising the 31-year-old future Hall of Famer they just traded for. He’s slowly being reintegrated into a full training environment, but don’t be surprised if he’s on the injury report during game week.

At this point there are no signs of missing week 1 either, and they’re too darn good to fade in fantasy drafts. If for any reason one or both of them suffer setbacks, Josh Reynolds, Marcus Johnson, and Dez Fitzpatrick are candidates who take on part of their responsibility.

Brown is our No. 9 WR in Standard and No. 11 WR in PPR. Jones is WR18 in Standard and WR20 in PPR.

Trey Lance Injury Update

Lance is expected to miss a week of training with a broken bone in his finger. He contracted the injury during the last preseason game of the 49ers against the Raiders. Although it is a minor disease, it is worth keeping an eye on its status. Missing a week of training during a positional battle is obviously not ideal, and it remains to be seen whether that will affect your game. The news shouldn’t completely dissuade you from Lance, but it certainly doesn’t help his case playing early, which he may not have had before the injury anyway.

Lance is still a valuable bank supply with a league win later in the season. Pair it with a mid-tier QB and hope “Trey SZN” arrives soon.

Lance is currently our No. 23 QB. Its low ranking is mainly due to the uncertainty of its situation. If he starts games early in the season, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him producing QB1 numbers with his rapid upward trend and talented pass catchers of the 49ers.

US stock futures fell slightly on Tuesday, the last day of August, with the S&P 500 posting a seventh straight monthly gain, the longest monthly winning streak since December 2017. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed again at record highs on Monday. The Dow fell slightly, taking the 30-share average to just over 0.6% from its last record high earlier this month. The Dow and Nasdaq also expected solid gains in August.

Zoom Video Communications shares fell more than 14% in the premarket on Tuesday, a drop that would wipe out profits in 2021 and a few more. While the stock beat estimates with quarterly earnings and sales, the stock came under pressure to slow growth due to the meteoric highs at the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020. 2. South Korea passes bill to limit Apple and Google’s control over App Store payments

The South Korean parliament passed a bill on Tuesday to curb Apple’s payment policies and Alphabet’s Google, which force developers to only use the tech giants’ proprietary billing systems. When the measure goes into effect, it will make South Korea the first country to track large app store operators who can charge commissions of up to 30% on in-app transactions. Regulators around the world are focused on leveling the playing field, and analysts see the South Korea move as a possible first step towards greater oversight by other countries.

President Joe Biden is due to speak to the nation on Tuesday afternoon about his decision not to extend the US mission to Afghanistan. The US has completed its evacuation efforts from Kabul airport, ending America’s longest war. The conflict, which lasted almost two decades, began not long after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In the final weeks of the US troops and diplomatic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the civilian government fell to the Taliban. On Thursday, ISIS-K terrorists killed 13 US soldiers and dozens of Afghans in an attack outside the airport. US forces struck back and launched strikes.

Repairing power outages from Hurricane Ida could take weeks in some parts of Louisiana, officials said. Ida devastated the area’s power grid, leaving the entire city of New Orleans and hundreds of thousands of other Louisiana customers in the dark. Power outages and widespread flooding slowed energy companies’ efforts to assess damage to oil production facilities, ports and refineries, many of which closed before the storm, on Tuesday.

Wildfire swept toward Lake Tahoe Tuesday, hours after the entire California resort town of South Lake Tahoe was evacuated. What an ideal gravitational lens

What a perfect gravitational lens

A stunning new photo from the Hubble Space Telescope shows a near-perfect Einstein ring, an effect caused by gravitational lenses. This is one of the most complete Einstein rings ever seen.

Gravitational lenses occur when a massive object such as a galaxy is aligned directly between Earth and an even more distant massive object. Einstein predicted that gravity could bend light, and this picture is a wonderful example of how gravity on foreground objects deflects light from background objects, creating a ring of light.

In this case, it’s not just a foreground galaxy and a background galaxy, but the gravity of two massive galaxies that bend the light of a distant quasar and bundle the otherwise divergent light into a visible ring.

So why does this picture show multiple points of light?

As you can see, six glowing points of light are grouped in the center of this picture, four of which form a circle around a central pair. Hubble data also suggests that there is a seventh spot of light in the center, which is a rare fifth image of the distant quasar. This rare phenomenon is caused by the presence of two galaxies in the foreground that act as a lens.

The Hubble team says the central pair of galaxies in this picture are really two separate galaxies. The four bright spots that orbit it (and the fainter one in the center which is really hard to see) are actually five separate images of the single distant quasar, called the 2M1310-1714.

The two foreground galaxies have such enormous mass that the spatial structure warps in such a way that the light that travels through this space from a distant object is bent and enlarged in such a way that the image shows several enlarged images of the distance – source away.

Real Madrid are on the verge of signing 18-year old French prodigy Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes on 5-year, €30 million ($35 million) deal, sources have told ESPN.

The midfielder, who only has one year left on his contract with the Ligue 1 club, will undergo his medical on Tuesday in Clairefontaine, where is he training with France’s Under-21 squad.

Camavinga’s transfer is expected to be made official on Tuesday. Rennes didn’t want to see the player leave as a free agent next summer and are said to be satisfied with the deal.

The deal with Rennes was agreed late on Monday night after the discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Kylian Mbappe stalled. However, sources close to the Bernabeu insisted that the deal was not connected to the breakdown in talks to sign Mbappe.

Madrid have been following Camavinga for several seasons, with former manager Zinedine Zidane a longtime admirer of the player who made his Ligue 1 debut as 16-year-old. There’s a belief at the club that he’s the right age to learn from — and eventually take over from — Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the heart of Madrid’s midfield.

Camavinga, who was called up for France U21 by Sylvain Ripoll for the Euro 2023 qualifiers in September, also has three senior appearance for Les Bleus.

While Camavinga is not the French superstar that Real Madrid and their fans expected this summer, he was a very coveted player. PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund were all interested in him. He is a complete midfielder, excellent on the ball with great activity and energy.

Mark Richards worked at the Hazelwood coal-fired power plant in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley for more than 25 years until it closed in 2017.

Richards said the majority of his co-workers, family and friends recognized the reality of climate change. But they also feared that job losses and economic sacrifices would increasingly burden them with the “heavy burden” of climate change.

The survey of 15,000 Australians, commissioned by the Australian Conservation Foundation, was conducted in July by research firm YouGov to see if voters think Australia should do more to reduce carbon emissions.

The results suggest that Australians overwhelmingly believe that the federal government is doing too little to combat climate change.

Mr Richards said federal and state governments need to ensure that there are “real replacement industries” for people who would lose their jobs due to the closure of coal-fired power plants and mines.

“We need bipartisan support for climate policy that includes taking into account jobs for communities whose livelihoods have been displaced by climate change,” he said.

Only an economically illiterate person could believe that Australia could afford to cut coal abruptly right now. With 11% of export earnings, coal is an important pillar of export earnings that keep our currency afloat.

So why should globalists want to damage Australia’s export revenues so badly?

The answer, in my opinion, is very simple – it’s a smash-and-grave raid on Australia’s natural resources.

Australia produces 37% of the world’s iron ore, more than double that of our closest rival, Brazil.

Iron ore is currently very expensive compared to its July high, but still near the top of historical price ranges. One of the reasons China is so interested in Afghanistan is that Afghanistan has one of the few large undeveloped iron ore deposits in the world and, for China, this glittering heap of mineral resources is just across the border. But to say that China is having great difficulty exploiting Afghanistan’s iron ore resources would be an understatement.

The dismantling of the Australian coal industry could be an immediate avenue to bring down the global price of iron ore.

First, a collapse in coal exports could destabilize the Australian currency and lower the real value of Australian miners’ wages.

Second, the collapse of the Australian coal export industry would bring a significant number of skilled coal miners to the market who would compete with the workers currently employed in the iron ore and other mining industries, which would continue to depress mining wages.

Third, if government resource revenue is disrupted, Australia could face greater difficulty servicing foreign sovereign debt – especially as everyone involved is demanding more grants from the Australian government. Debtor countries in distress are more willing to make sacrifices, such as closing very cheap deals with foreign mining companies in exchange for renegotiating their debts.

Of course, if renewable energy advocates managed to build a business of exporting green hydrogen or whatever to compete with Australia’s coal exports, that would completely change the dynamic. But that’s all talk so far. The renewable energy industry apparently expects the Australian government to sponsor the industry, which if you translate the PR gibberish, likely means they want even more handouts.

CDC scientist says data is limited to evaluate shot for general population

A CDC scientist said Monday the data needed to properly evaluate Covid-19 vaccine booster shots for the general population is limited — even as President Joe Biden pressures health officials to clear the shots for wide distribution beginning the week of Sept. 20.

The presentation by Dr. Sara Oliver at a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory group meeting suggests the panel may limit its initial endorsement of extra shots to vulnerable groups and health-care workers.

Several studies suggest the authorized Covid vaccines remain effective in preventing severe disease and hospitalization but may be less effective in preventing infection or mild symptomatic illness, according to Oliver. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is meeting Monday to consider booster shots for all eligible Americans. The panel is also scheduled to vote on endorsing the Food and Drug Administration’s final approval of Pfizer’s vaccine.

Since the highly contagious delta variant first appeared, vaccine efficacy has ranged between 39% and 84%, according to Oliver’s presentation, which referenced several separate studies. One study looking at health-care workers and first responders showed overall vaccine efficacy fell to around 65% in July — down from about 90% in February. Israel data shows the efficacy of Pfizer’s vaccine has fallen to as low as 39% in that country.

Scientists have said the vaccines’ effectiveness wanes over time, and the delta variant is a hardier strain that is able to break through that protection.

It is “important to monitor trends of effectiveness by severity of disease over time,” according to Oliver’s presentation slides.

The slides noted that it is not uncommon for vaccines to require several doses. Vaccinations for Hepatitis B and HPV, for example, require a third dose after six months.

“Vaccines that require more than one dose do not necessarily mean that annual boosters are needed,” Oliver said during the presentation.

Once booster shots are available, nursing home residents, health-care providers and the elderly — the first groups to get vaccinated in December and January — are likely to be prioritized for the extra shots, the CDC slides suggested.

The CDC emphasized that vaccinating the unvaccinated should be a “top priority,” adding delivery of booster doses to vaccinated individuals should not deter outreach to those who remain unprotected from the virus.

The agency also stressed the importance of the availability of vaccines globally.

“Uncontrolled spread globally that could result in new variants threatens control of the pandemic everywhere,” Oliver said. In addition to distribution globally, policies on boosters should consider “equity in the U.S. population as well,” she added.

The meeting Monday comes after President Joe Biden said Friday that U.S. regulators are looking at administering Covid booster shots five months after people finish their primary immunizations, moving up the expected timetable for a third shot by three months.

After the 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this year’s tournament was postponed from April to May to August, the best players from around the world have now come to Canada to fight for gold.

The United States is aiming for the sixth championship in a row by 2013 (the World Cup does not take place in Olympic years). USA Hockey’s last title in 2019 became controversial after an overtime goal was overturned by Finland and the Americans won on a penalty shootout.

The Finns reached the final after beating Canada 4-2 in the semi-finals. The defeat marked the first time in the history of the tournament that Canada had not played for gold. Canada has won the most gold medals (10) but is looking for its first since 2012.

Where will the Women’s World Cup 2021 take place?

The 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship takes place in a bubble at the WinSport Arena in Calgary, Alta.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place April 7-17 in Halifax and Truro, NS. Due to the ongoing pandemic, it was postponed to May 6-16, but on the morning of April 21, Hockey Canada was informed by the province that the tournament had been canceled.

Canada is hosting the championship for the eighth time this year, and the province of Alberta will host the women’s tournament for the first time. The last time Canada hosted, the Americans beat the host nation 1-0 in extra time in Kamloops, BC
