The expectations for Josh Allen of Buffalo Payments are actually as large as his contract – Buffalo Payments Weblog

BUFFALO, NY – No matter how shyly Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane answered or how often quarterback Josh Allen was distracted, the off-season questions about a contract renewal kept coming back.

But even with the option of submitting the interview by 2022, neither side showed signs of fear; Allen and the Bills publicly expressed their desire to strike a deal, knowing it was a matter of when, not if.

As it turned out, the when came on Friday afternoon.

Allen and the Bills agreed on a six-year contract extension worth $ 258 million with a guaranteed NFL record of $ 150 million, according to ESPN analyst Adam Schefter. The average annual value of $ 43 million makes Allen the second highest paid player in league history, behind Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and the highest paid player in Bills history.

It’s a fitting award for the most highly drafted quarterback in the franchise in history, and will serve as one of the most notable rags-to-riches in sports stories – the unrecruited kid from a farm town in central California whose only division I offered was a coach from Wyoming attended a junior college game to scout out one of Allen’s teammates. The same kid whose selection at # 7 in 2018 met widespread criticism and whose rookie season (10 TD passes, 12 interceptions, and 52.8 completion percentages) failed to allay that skepticism.

Allen was the third quarterback, drafted in 2018, behind Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns, No. 1) and Carolina Panthers starter Sam Darnold, who was voted No. 3 by the New York Jets; Now Allen is one of the richest players in NFL history.

But Allen in Buffalo was just too perfect to fail.

“Personally, I think it was just a game that worked,” he said. “I’m in this great city here in Buffalo trying to somehow embody what the city is: worker, hard working, don’t complain, find out the mentality. I’m very driven and I” I always had my goal to play this game as long as possible. “

However, there is an enormous responsibility associated with investing the bills. Quarterbacks Jared Goff (# 1 pick of the Los Angeles Rams) and Carson Wentz (Philadelphia Eagles) were the first two picks in the 2016 NFL draft. Both received huge contract extensions from the teams who designed them but ended up in traded this off-season.

Everyone is paid like Mahomes now, so anything that doesn’t win the Super Bowl will be seen as a disappointment.

The Bills are clearly confident that Allen can live up to expectations. His contract is a by-product of a three-year investment. When Buffalo designed Allen, Beane supported him in every way possible to ensure his success by improving the offensive line and keeping coach Sean McDermott’s staff intact to provide stability.

Beane even traded for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs last season to help Allen take the next step forward.

In return, Allen ran an MVP secondary placement campaign (4,544 yards, 37 TD passes, and 69.2 completion percentages) and set franchise records in almost all major statistical passing categories. Beane isn’t worried that the 2020 season could be an outlier. Allen had ticked the last box in his mind; he was a respected locker room leader and a valued pillar in the Buffalo community.

“We’re not scared of ‘oh let’s just extend it for a year or two’ or something – we believe in Josh,” said Beane.

Everything about Allen had screamed “franchise quarterback” except for one thing – his production on the field. That last question mark was answered with enthusiasm last season.

But as Dr. Dre Kendrick Lamar once said, “Anyone can get it – the hard part is keeping it.”

As impressive as Allen’s 2020 season was, it’s an outlier in terms of his NFL career. Few people could criticize Beane for wanting to see another year of production before putting the house on his quarterback.

But that’s the thing – with this contract extension, Beane is not only counting on everyone. Given what Beane, McDermott, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey have done to get the face of their franchise to this point, Allen’s deal represents Beane’s innate confidence in their work.

“You understand what he’s good at,” said Beane. “Then we could find out what kind of weapons he likes best, what he sees, what he goes well with, and we added those things. … and like Sean said, we have a full development staff here to help people grow.

“Josh is far from the finished product, he’ll be the first to tell you. But these things, and where he comes from, where he is today, gives you the confidence to ask [owners Kim and Terry Pegula] so that you can take this step. “

How can someone be sure that everyone is still focused on the task at hand? According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Allen learned from his agent that they were on the verge of a deal around 4 a.m. on Friday. He practiced as always and then signed the contract.

As if nothing has changed.

The question then is whether this temperature will cause a temperature increase of 6.5 degrees Celsius before the end of the century. I am very skeptical about this.

How about 4 degrees Celsius? I am still very skeptical about that.

How about 2 degrees Celsius? I am doubtful, but it’s coming into the realm of the possible NOW.

How about a ONE degree? Yes, it’s possible.

So please understand that MOST of the “denial” you are talking about is not LOCATION. There is skepticism in the headline and scare tactics to get people to act for fear that MOST people who are reluctant to accept the “AGW” are exaggerating? Lying? What is your name of something that almost certainly won’t happen, but you still say something like “The world could see a temperature rise of up to 6 degrees in the next century” when you know it is so likely that the Temperature drops same number?

Most of the people here ASK science which is a good thing. They 100% contradict efforts that will have potentially unintended worldwide consequences, such as massive solar parks and wind turbine parks.

Idaho Governor Brad Little urges residents to get vaccinated in opposition to Covid

Idaho Governor Brad Little on Friday urged state residents to get vaccinated against Covid, citing concerns about the Delta variant and its potential to stifle economic progress.

“We’re just asking everyone to get vaccinated,” Little said on CNBC’s The Exchange.

Little said his biggest concern and “one of the most damaging things” to the economy would be if children don’t go to full-time school in the fall and parents stay at home with them. “This is going to slow the economy down, so we want the vaccination rate to go up and protect our Idaho citizens,” said Little, a Republican who took office in 2019. He was previously the lieutenant governor.

Idaho has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, with around 46% of residents 12 and older being fully vaccinated and nearly 51% receiving at least one dose, according to the state’s public health department. Both numbers are behind the national value.

In the US as a whole, 58% of Americans 12 and older are fully vaccinated, while 68% received at least one dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Half of the entire American population is now fully vaccinated against Covid, a White House official tweeted Friday, before the CDC released the data on its website.

The number of daily cases is also increasing in Idaho as the highly contagious Delta variant devastates largely unvaccinated parts of the country.

Little has refrained from imposing a nationwide mask mandate, although some counties and a dozen or so cities in Idaho have enacted local requirements to help contain the spread of the virus. At the end of May, Little repealed an executive order excluding mask mandates that Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin had issued while he was at a conference.

“I believe in empowering businesses and local governments to do the right thing,” Little told CNBC. “We are advocates of vaccination and do all health protocols to contain the spread, but we are very concerned about” the Delta variant.

Little said he hopes more residents who get vaccinated will demonstrate the benefits to those who are reluctant to get the vaccination. “Every day that goes by that more people are vaccinated and protected means their neighbors, friends, family members are aware,” he said.

Despite short-term Covid worries, Little said Idaho’s economic activity continued to be strong. He noted that Idaho’s population is one of the fastest growing in the United States

“We’re worried about the new line and some more positivity rates, but we have a great booming economy here right now,” he said.

How Britney Spears tries to speed up Jamie’s exit as a restorer

In the same court files, the lawyer also accused Jodie Montgomery testifying in a conversation on July 9th that Britney may need a 5150 stop because she was allegedly “out of control”.

In a statement to E! News, Jodie’s lawyer, Lauriann Wright, denied the allegations. She said in part: “Mr. Spears’ statement misrepresents what Ms. Montgomery said to him regarding a potential 5150 psychiatric detention for Ms. Spears. Ms. Montgomery has at no time told Mr. Spears that Ms. Spears is currently” in favor of one qualify for such a stop. “

Lionel Messi to PSG: Newest on the most important impending signing of the Euro summer season switch window

That was fast. The announcement that Lionel Messi will not be returning to FC Barcelona was barely a day old before reports around Europe were essentially announcing his arrival at big-spending Paris Saint-Germain.

Forget reporters. Not even 24 hours had expired before PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino made it public that they were negotiating with the 34-year-old Argentine star.

“Of course [signing Messi] is a possibility,” Pochettino said. “The club is working on it and if there is any information we will communicate it as soon as possible.”

A member of Qatar’s royal family, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, basically announced the deal late Friday:

Mohamed Bohafsi has been all over the news from the start, and he reports: “Messi has chosen PSG! The latest discussions are a 2-year contract, plus an option. PSG is trying to close the deal this weekend. Messi’s father is to meet PSG in the coming hours. The Parisian locker room is happy.”

It would seem there’s no stopping this train. The reporting has been supported by others in the media, including ESPN’s Julien Laurens and CBS’s Fabrizio Romano and Sky Sport’s Matteo Moretto. Moretto reports that “Leo Messi is happening, the parties want to get it done in two days,” while Romano claims that the two sides were talking on Aug. 5 — the same day that Messi and Barcelona made the decision to part ways.

No complete agreement yet between PSG and Messi but negotiations are going well. Messi wants to join PSG so reasons to be optimistic for Paris. There will be a physical meeting next week, between Jorge Messi and PSG. Things can change quickly but it’s getting closer @ESPNFC

Forget the contract signing. Let’s move right to the presentation. There’s a date floating around for that, too.

And if there’s anyone thinking that Messi’s arrival could mean that star forward Kylian Mbappe will soon be on his way out, it’s actually the reverse, according to ESPN’s Laurens, who writes that “Messi joining PSG would increase the likelihood of Mbappe, who is out of contract next summer, signing a new long-term deal with the club.”

PSG are hoping this move will finally help them achieve the dream of winning the UEFA Champions League, which they have come tantalizingly close to winning in recent years. They reached the final in 2020 (loss to Bayern Munich) and the semifinal stage in 2021. They have spared no expense this summer to assemble a super team: Gigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum have all joined a team that was already stacked.

Who else could sign Messi?

The only other European sides that could come close to competing from a salary perspective are the biggest English spenders, Manchester City and Chelsea. But Manchester City has already ruled itself out of the Messi sweepstakes through its manager and Messi’s former coach. Pep Guardiola: “It’s not in our thoughts, absolutely not,” he said.

According to David Sanchidrian of Spain sports daily AS, Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich has requested a meeting with the Argentine superstar’s camp to get a sense of what he’s looking for.

With two UEFA Champions League contenders like Chelsea and PSG in the mix, Major League Soccer and Inter Miami will miss out on this round, although the league and the LA Galaxy came up with a creative deal for David Beckham to move to the USA when he was 32 and after a spell at Real Madrid. Beckham’s the owner of Inter Miami, the expansion team he started with the expansion team option included in that original contract.

Should Messi decide to head to the USA after two years at PSG in the summer of 2023, he would do so while turning 36. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still starring for AC Milan at 39 and did so for the Galaxy prior to that. Cristiano Ronaldo is in the last season of his deal with Juventus in Italy, during which he’ll be turning 37. Ronaldo was the top scorer in the Italian Serie A last season and Euros 2021.

Russia’s new module places the station out of place, inflicting a delay for Starliners

On July 28, the International Space Station (ISS) suffered a mishap after a new Russian module (named Nauka) fired its engines just hours after it arrived. As a result, the entire station was temporarily pushed out of position, which forcibly delayed the Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) mission. This would have been the second attempt by Boeing’s CT-100 Starliner to meet with the ISS as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP).

The ISS managed to correct its orbit shortly afterwards, while the OFT-2 launch was postponed to the next available opportunity (Wednesday, August 4). Unfortunately, the mission was delayed again due to a problem with one of the valves on the spacecraft’s propulsion system. This prompted the ground crews to relocate the Starliner and Atlas V launcher back to the Vertical Integration Facility (VIF) so that they can more precisely identify the source of the problem.

The OFT-2 mission will be the Boeing CST-100 Starliner’s second attempt to dock with the ISS after failing its previous attempt (December 2019). The Starliner, known as the OFT-1 mission, successfully reached space with no problems, but a malfunction in the clock prevented the thrusters from firing at the correct time. As soon as they fired, they burned more fuel than expected, making the planned rendezvous with the ISS impossible.

This planned mission would have been the last unmanned flight test designed to validate the Starliner for carrying out replenishment and crew missions to the ISS. SpaceX completed an unmanned flight test (Demo-1) with its Crew Dragon spaceship, which successfully hit the ISS on March 2, 2019. Demo-2 followed, during which astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley flew to the ISS.

The OFT-2 flight would have brought Boeing one step closer to securing contracts with NASA for the flight of cargo and crews to the ISS. Before that can happen, NASA and Boeing need to analyze the Starliner and figure out why not all of its valves were in the correct configuration for launch. NASA and Boeing have already taken several steps to fix the incorrect valve readings.

This included switching the valves of the service module propulsion system on and off while the Starliner was still in its launch configuration on the Atlas V rocket of the United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Space Launch Complex-41 at Space Force Station Cape Canaveral in Florida found. At this point, the teams also ruled out a number of other potential causes (such as a software bug), but it was clear that an additional assessment was needed.

After the engineering teams presented their initial results to NASA and Boeing managers on August 4th, they decided that the Atlas V and Starliner would be moved to the VIF for further inspection and testing. With the VIF assembling support structures that secure the spacecraft’s service module, engineers now have direct access to the Starliner and can perform a more thorough analysis.

This consists in Boeing powering up the Starliner so the vehicle can receive commands that provide real-time data to the teams. This data is then used to inform you of any corrective action that may be required to ensure that the CST-100 arrives at the next opportunity to take off. Steve Stich, manager of the Commercial Crew Program, said in a recent update on the NASA blog:

“The Boeing and NASA teams are working methodically to understand what caused the valve indicators on the Starliner service module propulsion system. Troubleshooting the Vertical Integration Facility will help focus on potential causes and next steps before we fly the OFT-2 mission. “

“This mission is extremely important for the Commercial Crew Program on the way to the Boeing Crewed Flight Test. We will fly the mission when we are ready. I am very proud of the NASA and Boeing teams for their professionalism, perseverance and methodical approach to solving complex problems. “

In the meantime, this assessment has given the crew aboard the ISS (Expedition 65) time to further check the newly arrived Nauka module from Roskosmos and ensure that the station is ready for Starliner’s arrival. The continued analysis of the unplanned engine firings has shown that the space station experienced an overall change in attitude of around 540 °, but that the maximum speed and acceleration did not come close to the safety limits for the ISS systems.

The analysis also confirmed that once situation control was restored and the station is currently in good condition and all of its systems are functioning normally, normal operations would resume. Since then, the Expedition 65 crew has resumed normal operations, including unpacking the cargo that was delivered to the new Nauka Multipurpose Laboratory Module (MLM).

The crew also resumed scientific operations, such as the InSpace-4 study of space fabrication in the microgravity science glove box. This experiment aims to explore ways to harness nanoparticles and develop advanced materials in microgravity to improve space and earth systems. The crew will also watch the Cygnus spacecraft as it approaches the space station a day and a half after its launch on Tuesday, August 10th.

The crew is also preparing for another spacewalk to prepare the ISS Port-4 truss structure prior to installing the station’s next solar panels. And when all of the Starliner’s systems are checked out, the OFT-2 mission will be postponed to the first available launch opportunity and (subject to further problems) another manned mission will be launched from US ground.

On earth and in orbit, work continues to secure the future of space exploration, commercial space, and space exploration!

Polar bear assault in Greenland gratuitously blamed on latest ‘warmth wave’ – Watts Up With That?

A polar bear bit the hand of a member of a film crew near the Danish military base of Daneborg in East Greenland on Monday (2 August) and predictably, this has been blamed on recent warm temperatures in the region. There is no specific evidence of cause and effect, of course. The news outlet reporting the incident cites some non-specified ‘experts’ as providing the generic ‘warming makes polar bears starve or behave badly’ excuse that makes no sense in this particular instance.

Here is what the news report had to say (3 Aug), my emphasis:

Early on Monday, while the sun does not set in summer at this latitude, the bear poked his head through a poorly closed window of a research station where the documentary team was staying about 400 metres from the small base of Daneborg.

A Danish Arctic military unit based in Greenland said the bear bit the hand of one of the three male team members before they used warning pistols to force the animal to flee.

Transported first to Daneborg, the injured documentary maker had to be evacuated to Akureyri, a town in Iceland.

Already blamed for five incidents until now, the bear returned again later in the morning and then again overnight Monday to Tuesday when it broke a window of the research station before fleeing.

“The local authorities have from now on categorised the bear as ‘problematic,’ which allows for it to be shot dead, if it returns,” the Danish military unit said.

Any bear causing problems in this region would have just come off the ice, since three weeks ago there was plenty of ice available offshore a bit to the north (see chart below for 7 July). Virtually all bears are at their best condition at this time of year, except for young, inexperienced bears or those that are sick or injured. Warm temperatures would not be causing any bear to be desperately looking for food unless it was desperate for some other reason (sick, injured, or an under-nourished young bear). However, nothing is stated in this report about the physical condition of the bear, its approximate age or its sex, even though it has been seen multiple times. Young male bears, for example, are far more likely to become problems near communities than any other age class (Wilder et al. 2017), because these bears have to compete with older, larger bears to keep whatever seals they manage to kill.

Note the reliance on un-named ‘experts’ at the end of the same news report:

Experts say the retreat of the ice pack, the hunting ground of the polar bear, forces them to stay on land more often and they find it harder to find food and sustain a species already considered vulnerable.

Although still rare, the close encounters with humans are increasing as bears more frequently approach inhabited areas in their search for food, environmental protection officers say.

What generic pap! The community has a problem bear on its hands, a situation which northern communities across the Arctic must contend with on a continual basis. Even if there was ice offshore, there would be the possibility of bears coming ashore and causing problems.

There is also the issue no one wants to talk about because it has nothing to do with declining sea ice: with more bears comes more problem bears.

United requires Covid vaccinations for its 67,000 US workers

United Airlines will require its 67,000 US employees to be vaccinated against Covid by October 25th or risk being fired, a first for major US airlines that is likely to put pressure on rivals.

Airlines, including United, have so far opposed vaccine mandates for all workers and instead offered incentives such as additional pay or time off for vaccination. Delta Air Lines started asking newly hired employees to provide proof of vaccination in May. United followed suit in June.

United’s requirement is one of the strictest vaccination regulations of any US company and involves employees who regularly interact with customers such as flight attendants and gate agents.

US companies like Facebook announced that employees would need to prove they were vaccinated in order to return to the office. Others only ask for it for certain employees. Walmart, for example, said last week that it will be required for corporate and executive level employees. Uber said US office staff must be vaccinated to return to personal work, but it was no longer needed to be used by drivers.

Meatpacker Tyson Foods said this week that its 120,000 U.S. employees will need to be fully vaccinated this year, when that is already more than 50,000.

“We know some of you will disagree with this decision to require the vaccine for all United employees,” United CEO Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart said in an employee note Friday. “But we have no greater responsibility to you and your colleagues than to ensure your safety at work, and the facts are crystal clear: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated.”

Kirby said in January he wanted to make Covid vaccines mandatory and other companies should do the same.

Ending the Covid-19 pandemic is especially critical for airlines, which are among the industries hardest hit by the pandemic. While summer vacation bookings exceeded the expectations of most executives, the rapidly expanding delta variant is weighing on demand.

“In the past 16 months, Scott has sent dozens of letters of condolence to the family members of United employees who have died of COVID-19,” executives said. “We are determined to do everything in our power to prevent any other United family from receiving this letter.”

United Airlines employees must upload proof that they have received two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, five weeks after full approval by federal officials or by October 25, whichever comes first have received. Exceptions are made for specific health or religious reasons, United said.

The mandate does not apply to regional airlines flying shorter routes for United.

Many of United’s employees have already reported they have been vaccinated, including more than 90% of pilots and 80% of flight attendants, company officials said. United did not disclose the company’s overall vaccination rate.

By comparison, according to an August 5 letter to members of their union, the Allied Pilots Association, about 60% of American Airlines pilots are vaccinated, encouraging Airmen to get vaccinated.

United didn’t say what the company’s overall vaccination rate is.

The decision was driven in part by concerns about a spike in Covid-19 cases over the past fall and winter, company officials said.

The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents United’s more than 12,000 airmen, believes the mandate is legal. It said the “small number of pilots” who disagree with the policy or plan to remain unvaccinated should contact their chief pilot’s office.

The flight attendants’ union, the Association of Flight Attendants, urged cabin crew to get vaccinated following United’s announcement.

“COVID-19 is a threat,” the union told members. “There are proven strategies to mitigate this threat. Vaccinations are necessary to end the pandemic and the health and economic damage it has caused.”

For its part, American Airlines said it has not changed its policy of promoting, but not mandating, vaccines for employees. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines didn’t immediately announce whether they also wanted to prescribe vaccines.

George Russell appears like Mercedes’ man

With Formula One on its summer break in August, the season is on ice until the end of the month.

The Belgian Grand Prix is the deadline Mercedes set itself to confirm the identity of Lewis Hamilton’s 2022 teammate. It’s a seismic decision in the context of F1’s immediate future and one which will cause a ripple effect across the driver market.

Here’s a look at the big 2022 driver market questions going into the summer break.

Bottas or Russell?

This is the big one. The decision on the surface is pretty simple — keep Valtteri Bottas for a sixth season, or finally give junior driver George Russell the chance to make the permanent step up from Williams.

While it might seem as though Mercedes has — from the outside, at least — been in this ‘stick or twist’ situation for a handful of seasons now, this is the first time the latter option appears to be the more realistic.

As this August break approached, there was a growing feeling in the paddock that Russell will be the man alongside Hamilton next year. It certainly seems as though it would require a remarkable 180 degree turn from Mercedes at this stage for that not to be the case.

It’s certainly hard to argue against Russell getting the opportunity. His form, for the most part, has been spectacular over the past year and a half. This year he’s made into Q2 on all but one occasion and even squeezed through to Q3 at the Austrian and British Grands Prix. A points finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix last week was long overdue. There’s been some squandered opportunities, notably in Imola last season and again this year, but those are the kind of mistakes you want a young driver to make while he’s at a backmarker team.

By contrast, Bottas seems to be in a downward spiral. The Finn has just two wins since the beginning of the 2020 season — in the same period, Hamilton has 15 in the sister car. Bottas hardly made a compelling case for Mercedes to keep him and he goes into the summer break after causing a multi-car pile-up at the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was a small mistake with huge consequences, but it seemed to perfectly sum up where Bottas is at right now.

For Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, giving Russell the chance will mark a departure from the pragmatic approach of recent years. Bottas isn’t the flashiest option but he’s a proven race winner and is especially competitive in qualifying. Russell is clearly a special talent but is still an unknown. His audition as Hamilton’s stand-in at the Sakhir Grand Prix last year suggested he won’t be daunted by the opportunity when he gets it.

Another question will have lingered — if not now for Russell, when? Wolff has already done a fair amount of juggling to manage the career of former Mercedes junior Esteban Ocon. The French driver — and new F1 race winner — spent a year out of F1 before finding a second chance with Renault (now Alpine) in 2020, with the help of Mercedes. When he lost his Racing Point drive at the end of 2018 Mercedes was unable to offer him a seat at the main team, but has effectively kept him on a long piece of string at a rival outfit – Ocon is still managed by Mercedes driver programme advisor Gwen Lagrue.

That Ocon deal worked at the time – it kept the French driver in F1 and meant Mercedes could also keep Bottas as Hamilton’s teammate and Russell as an apprentice at Williams. Russell’s development has forced the issue once again and it’s hard to imagine Mercedes being happy having another prodigious talent tied down at another team for the foreseeable future.

Russell’s body language leading into the summer break suggested he knows there’s something very good on the horizon for him. Much was made of an interview he gave before the Hungarian Grand Prix, where a question from F1’s Lawrence Barretto on his future beyond this year prompted Russell to burst into a fit of hysterical laughter.

If it is Russell, as expected, it raises the question of what happens to Bottas. However much he’s struggled at Mercedes, he undeniably deserves another opportunity in Formula One. A recent Autosport report suggested Alfa Romeo has made him their top candidate for 2022, while swapping places with Russell remains a possibility.

What about Williams?

If Russell gets the Mercedes seat, Bottas would be an obvious candidate as his replacement at Williams. He would bring race-winning pedigree to the team, one which would hope to move up the competitive order under the revamped aero rules. Like most former Williams drivers, Bottas still clearly holds the team in high regard.

If Bottas was unavailable, Williams would have plenty of other options.

Williams is a Mercedes partner and boss Toto Wolff has floated the idea of one of the company’s Formula E drivers, Stoffel Vandoorne or Nyck de Vries, joining the team next season. There are still plenty of people who feel Vandoorne never had a fair shot at F1 with McLaren, while De Vries, the 2019 Formula 2 champion and current Formula E championship leader, would be an exciting rookie if he were given the chance.

There are drivers with recent F1 pedigree available too. It is understood Nico Hulkenberg is on the team’s shortlist, although, as reported by Racer Magazine last week, the German is also on the radar of IndyCar team Ed Carpenter Racing. Former Red Bull and Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat would also be a quick and experienced option who might relish a second chance in F1 away from the pressure of the Red Bull programme.

Nicholas Latifi seems all but certain to remain with the team in the other car. The Canadian brings good money and finished seventh at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Russell’s heroics often make it easy to overlook Latifi, but he had been narrowing the gap in qualifying in the races leading up to Budapest.

So is Kimi gone?

It certainly seems unlikely Kimi Raikkonen will remain in Formula One beyond this season. The 2007 world champion remains one of the grid’s most popular drivers but this current stint at Alfa has been uninspiring. Part of that is a great driver driving in an uncompetitive car, but another has been that Antonio Giovinazzi has been out-performing the Finn recently.

Bottas would be a great coup for the Swiss team if Raikkonen was not retained. Then there’s Mick Schumacher. Alfa Romeo remains a close Ferrari partner and Schumacher is part of the Italian team’s driver academy. However, Ferrari is still reluctant to rush Schumacher through the ranks and this might keep him at Haas for another season at least.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the media has speculated that it is Raikkonen’s last season, so watch this space.

The Pierre Gasly question

Pierre Gasly is in red hot form, but it seems unlikely he will get the second chance at Red Bull he craves until 2023 at the earliest.

Sergio Perez’s form alongside Max Verstappen has been erratic but good enough to warrant a second season at Red Bull. He won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and has shown glimpses of top drawer performances – his biggest task in the second half of the season is to raise his baseline performances to consistently put Hamilton and Mercedes under pressure to help Verstappen’s chances of the championship.

That shouldn’t take away from an undeniable fact — Gasly has been superb since being demoted from Red Bull. He won last year’s Italian Grand Prix and has been on the podium again this season, but that failed first stint means the question of his mental temperament will always remain. Gasly feels confident he would succeed where he failed last time round, but admitted to ESPN in a recent interview that he feels Red Bull wants an experienced driver to lead AlphaTauri into next year’s rule change. Galsy clearly thrives at the small Italian team and this might be the best place for him to continue for the short-term.

Yuki Tsunoda has been the dictionary definition of erratic in his rookie season so far, but his upside is exciting and Red Bull will hope to see him continue to develop in a positive fashion alongside Gasly in 2022.

The rest of the grid

Several teams look set to take an unchanged line-up into next season — McLaren (Lando Norris, Daniel Ricciardo), Ferrari (Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz), Alpine (Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso) and Aston Martin (Sebastian Vettel, Lace Stroll).

Haas took on rookie pairing Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin knowing it would be a baptism by fire for both drivers in their rookie seasons with an uncompetitive car. Both look likely to remain into next season unless Schumacher gets an opportunity at Alfa.

Will there be any rookies in 2022?

With so few of the current drivers heading for the exit at the end of 2021, it’s hard to find a space for rookies to join the grid next year. What’s more, the overhaul of technical regulations for 2022 could put teams off signing fresh talent as experience will be at a premium to get the most from the new cars next year. However, there are some promising drivers on the radar and a number of them are already linked to big teams.

Australian Oscar Piastri currently leads the Formula 2 championship after winning Formula 3 last year, and regularly displays the kind of talent that is hard to ignore. He also has a Formula Renault Eurocup title under his belt from 2019, meaning a title victory in F2 this year would give him three straight titles in junior series and nowhere left to go but F1 (F2 champions are not allowed to compete in the championship the following year).

Perfect F1 material then? The only problem — for want of a better word — is that he is part of the Alpine driver academy and the Alpine F1 team already has two drivers signed up for 2022 in recent race winner Ocon and two-time world champion Alonso. Placing him at another team seems unlikely given the congested nature of the driver market, but depending on the futures of Bottas, Raikkonen and Schumacher, openings could come up at Alfa Romeo, Williams or Haas.

However, talent is not always a guarantee of a place on the F1 grid, especially among teams with modest budgets. Ideally you want to combine talent with a big sponsor, or at least the potential to attract a big sponsor, and that’s where Piastri’s fellow Alpine driver academy member Guanyu Zhou comes in.

Zhou has been a regular top ten contender in F2 for the past two years and is currently second in the championship, five points behind Piastri. He could also be F1’s key to unlocking the Chinese market, with the potential to become the first Chinese driver to race at the top level of motorsport. With that, a team might also benefit from sponsorship deals and Chinese investment, although the sponsors Zhou currently has are not going to compete with the kind of backing Latifi and Mazepin have.

Other drivers linked with F1 teams to keep an eye on are 17-year-old Theo Pourchaire, who recently tested for Alfa Romeo as part of his Sauber junior contract, and Robert Shwartzman, who is part of the Ferrari driver academy. Pourchaire clearly has talent and won the F2 Monaco feature race this year, but his youth means there is no rush to promote him to F1. Shwartzman is currently third in the F2 championship in his second year in the series, but already has tough competition from within Ferrari’s Academy with the Italian team partly paying Schumacher’s way in F1 while still having last year’s F2 runner-up Callum Ilott on its books.

21 Savage, Wack 100 & Tekashi 6ix9ine received into an argument

At the height of the pandemic, everyone and their mothers were trying to get into the clubhouse application. The invite-only app quickly became one of the most popular and sought-after social media apps as people tried to stay indoors and chat last year and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform, which gained popularity thanks to the audio feature and multiple rooms where various topics were discussed, has been at the top, but lately with people out it seems like people have moved on by tonight withdrawn from the app.

Phew, it looks like it went under, and words and threats have been exchanged. Things got tense after a disagreement between 21 Savage, Wack 100 and Tekashi 6ix9ine after 21 said Wack was lame to agree with everything Tekashi says. 21 also said that he feels like a gangster and a rat can’t agree on anything in life.

After the men paced back and forth, Wack threatened 21 and said he would beat him up. He said they could “come down” and offered to go to Atlanta or bring 21 to Los Angeles. In return, 21 said: “Say less.” The news surprised everyone, even Clubhouse. They entered The Shade Room and left a heated face emoji. They weren’t the only ones to step in. Some of the roommates agreed with 21’s comments. One commented: “First, 21 Savage is not wrong. Second, Wack is MUCH too old to threaten fights online. “

Tekashi appeared to have read the comments and stepped in to give his opinion on the situation. He commented, “Lmao, you love to defend 21. He asked to fight and when we said where you want to meet he said, man, I’m not arguing. “
