USA Baseball vs. South Korea Dwell Rating, Updates, Highlights from the 2021 Olympic Semifinals

Another win for a chance for gold.

The USA baseball team is interestingly a bit of a stranger to Olympic gold medals. The team took their first – and only – gold medal win at the 2000 Olympics, but they may be able to land a second on Thursday morning if all goes well.

The USA face South Korea in a rematch from the group game, a game the USA won 4-2. Now, after losing to Japan earlier this week, Team USA is one win away from a gold medal game against Japan on Saturday – on the other hand, it’s just one loss away from a bronze medal game against the Dominican Republic Friday night.

South Korea suffered a heavy defeat against Japan on Wednesday morning: the game, which ended in eighth place, went to Japan after rallies three times. The win earned Japan the gold medal game and could turn into a very useful home advantage as the host nation.

Sporting News will provide live updates, highlights and more from the US vs. Korea Republic semi-final game below.

6:22 am END OF THE FIRST: The two-out rally falls short as Filia falls short to finish the inning. USA 0, Korea 0.

6:19 am: The US is in business: Todd Frazier with a double, Casas moves up to third. Runner in scoring position with two outs in first. Eric Filia up.

6:17 am: Tristan Casas continues his hot tournament and works a two-out walk. The referee has a tight, narrow hitting zone at the start of this game.

6:10 AM END TOP FIRST: Ryan gets a flyout into the deep right center to finish the top half of the first. US come to strike.

6:06 am: Lee Jung-hoo with a two-out double and South Korea has their first baserunner of the evening for Japan.

6:01 am: Joe Ryan’s first throw is a ball and we’re traveling in Japan.

5:55 am: Korea and the US do business in minutes.

So Korea’s starting pitcher against the US is a 19-year-old LHP who is also a rookie at KBO … and now he’s been asked to play the most important game so far for the team, as well as for his teammates who didn’t care, play their mandatory game Military service.

No pressure, boy.

Astronomers Discover a Enormous Planet Orbiting its Star at 6,000 Instances the Earth-Solar Distance

Tracking exoplanets is hard – especially when that exoplanet is so far away from its parent star that the normally used “transit” method of watching it dim the light of the star itself is ineffectual.  But it really helps if the planet is huge, and has its own infrared glow, no matter how far away from its star it might be.  At least those properties allowed a team of scientists from the University of Hawai’i to track a particular exoplanet called (and we’re not kidding) Coconuts-2b.

We here at UT are no stranger to whimsical astronomical naming, but the Cool Companions on Ultrawide Orbits (Coconuts) survey may take the cake.  This new planet that survey turned up is almost 6 times the size of Jupiter and is orbiting its star at an astonishing 6,000 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

Star field from the WISE survey showing the two planets of the Coconuts 2 system around its host star.
Credit – NASA / WISE / Zhang et al.

That incredible distance made the original discoverers of the planet back in 2011 using WISE think it was “rogue”, meaning it wasn’t gravitationally bound to any particular star.  They were only able to see it because the planet itself is still glowing with a waste heat built up during the planet’s formation, which is visible in the infrared spectrum.

But new research shows that Coconuts-2b is in fact gravitationally bound to a star, L 34-26, just as an absurdly far distance. The system it is bound to isn’t even all that far from Earth – at 35 light years away it is one of the closer exoplanets found of the 4,000 so far. It’s also not even the planet that is the farthest from its host star – that honor goes to the planet 2MASS J21265040-8140293, which is separated at an astonishing 7400 AU from it’s parent star, TYC 9486-927-1. Those names so how much more appealing a name like “Coconuts 2b” truly is.

Different spectra of the Coconut 2 system.

Names aside, the experience on either of those worlds would be so very different from the experience as we know it here on Earth. In addition to the crushing gravity, night time and day time on the planet would appear to be almost the same.  The star it is orbiting would simply appear as a bright red star in a sky that is similarly full of them.

In addition to providing an interesting thought experiment for what it would be like to live on such a world, the planet will also provide some insight on planetary formation and evolution, especially for large gas giants like our own Jupiter and Saturn.  Maybe its unique name will attract even more attention and allow the planet to take its place as an important outlier amongst the heap of exoplanet discoveries that has come out in recent years.

American “A Group” wins gold medal match at Olympic seashore volleyball match

TOKYO – The American “A Team” has advanced into the gold medal match of the Olympic beach volleyball tournament.

April Ross and Alix Klineman defeated Switzerland on Thursday with 21:12, 21:11 in Shiokaze Park and won at least one silver medal. It is the third medal for Ross, who won silver in London and bronze in Rio de Janeiro. Klineman is an Olympian for the first time.

The Swiss Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre play for bronze against the loser of the second semi-final between Australia and Latvia.

The Americans never lagged behind in the first set. They lost the first point of the second before losing three points in a row to take a lead they never gave up.

The win also secures the United States a beach volleyball medal for the seventh consecutive Summer Games. This has been every one of them since the sport was added to the program in Atlanta in 1996.

Only Brazil had achieved the same level of success – until now. It was ruled out for the first time in Tokyo, and none of its teams reached the semifinals.

CVS is discontinuing the administration of J&J Covid vaccines in pharmacies and continues to supply vaccinations in a couple of MinuteClinics

CVS Health has discontinued Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine in its pharmacies and only makes vaccinations available in about 10% of its retail locations, the company told CNBC on Wednesday.

The drugstore chain said it made the change in the past few weeks. Customers can still get the syringes at nearly 1,000 MinuteClinic locations in 25 states, and Washington DC MinuteClinics are located in some of the company’s drug stores and provide medical care and other services such as diagnostic tests and vaccines.

CVS pharmacies will continue to offer the two-dose vaccines Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid nationwide, according to CVS spokesman Mike DeAngelis. He declined to say how many pharmacies were affected by the change, however said it would help with vaccine supply to the drugstore chain.

CVS has more than 9,900 retail locations according to its 2020 annual report.

J&J did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request to comment on the change.

J & J’s vaccine was touted as a blessing by federal health officials when it was approved by the FDA in late February because it only requires one dose and can be stored at refrigerator temperatures for months. Since then, it has suffered from poor public perception of its overall effectiveness, concerns about rare side effects, and production delays.

For some Americans, concerns about the one-shot vaccine have increased with the advent of the Delta variant, which can spread more easily and cause more serious illness than the original coronavirus. Some people have even gone so far as to look for an extra dose not yet recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This week, San Francisco health officials announced they would allow patients who received a J&J vaccine to have a second vaccination from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna.

The change by CVS will affect the availability of the recordings for many Americans. J & J’s vaccine is already not getting as much uptake in the US as mRNA vaccines.

According to the CDC, approximately 13.5 million doses of the J&J vaccine had been administered in the US by Tuesday. This compares to a combined total of 333.6 million doses for the vaccine from Pfizer and Moderna.

Dr. Paul Offit, who served on advisory boards for both the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, said J & J’s vaccine really “suffered” after federal health officials urged states in April to suspend vaccination “as a precaution.” “While examining six women who developed a rare but severe bleeding disorder, said

The recommended break was lifted 10 days later after U.S. officials determined that the benefits of the vaccinations outweigh their risks.

“I think the public is hearing that the vaccine is going off the market for a while and it’s just hard to get past that scarlet letter,” said Offit, also director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The company and U.S. health officials have claimed the single-use vaccine is safe and highly effective, particularly against serious illness, hospitalizations, and death. J&J reported last month that new research found that its vaccine was effective against the highly contagious Delta even eight months after being vaccinated.

John Kerry blames President Trump for his lack of progress in negotiating local weather deal – OK?

John Kerry believes that President Trump has shaken global confidence in the United States’ commitment to climate protection. However, Kerry claims that “more and more” Republicans are taking the climate crisis seriously when Kerry appears on Fox News.

How expensive has the Trump administration been in terms of climate change?

The damage that President Trump did worldwide is not limited to the climate. But about the climate He has brought America’s credibility to a horrible place in a horrible way and has fundamentally destroyed it. I hear from country to country: How do we know we can count on America? How do we know no other president is going to come along, someone like Trump doing the same thing all over again? My answer is very simple, that I believe that in the future no politician can come up and turn this tide because all over the world the private sector is moving fast to do what governments don’t. Banks, asset managers, companies that take environmental, social and governance criteria into account in their boardrooms and have committed themselves to sustainable development goals are a major undertaking. There are trillions of dollars investing now in alternative renewable energies, be it solar or hydropower. It simply creates a phenomenal amount of economic activity. To be honest, I don’t think any politician would want to change that, but I don’t think he could either.

Secretary Kerry, Whenever I go to Fox News or anywhere on right-wing media or social media, I see many of these efforts derided. When I turn to the Senate, look at the first of the Biden administration’s major infrastructure bills – it was supposed to contain all sorts of climate measures, and that was gutted when the Senate Republicans opposed it. How would you sell bold climate policies to Republicans?

There are more and more Republicans, I think, who are really taking this more seriously now and trying to find out what actions they are willing to support. A lot has also happened in the House of Representatives. Mother Nature is writing pretty energetically right now, temperatures are rising, storms are getting more intense, the fires are getting bigger and wider and more frequent. This is increasingly being noticed by executives. President Putin, for example, was very clear: you have a real challenge in northern Russia and Siberia. The tundra and permafrost are thawing. You have cities there that are becoming unstable. They are deeply concerned about the methane released into the earth after forty thousand years of containment. Mother Nature kind of yells at people, hey guys, you have a problem.

Kerry I think you misunderstand climate skeptics and Republicans.

Some of us may disagree with your policies, but your personal contribution to global warming is absolutely impressive – over a million air miles by 2016. Planet?

One day they will build statues for you, the man who personally drove back the Ice Age.

Rihanna Is Now Formally A Billionaire!

It looks like Rihanna has officially joined the Billionaire Club. Forbes announced that the mogul is now worth an estimated $1.7 billion thanks to her many business ventures, including her Fenty Beauty empire.

According to Forbes, with her new billionaire status, Rihanna has become the wealthiest female musician in the world and second richest female entertainer, as she follows behind Oprah Winfrey.

Forbes broke down her billionaire fortune and reports that an estimated $1.4 billion comes from her Fenty Beauty line, while Savage X Fenty is worth an estimated $270 million, and the rest of her fortune comes from her music and acting career.

With her brands continuing to grow by the day, many fans seem to request one important thing from Rihanna, and that is the follow-up album to her 2016 album “Anti.” There have been various occasions where the mogul has made it pretty clear that she has been in the studio working on new music, that she plans to drop soon.

However, it seems like the wait for new music is going to have to continue as she proceeds to add on to her empire. Recently Rihanna shared that her beauty empire is only expanding as she gears up to release “FENTY PARFUM.” She announced that the fragrance will be making its way to shelves on August 10th. The release of the fragrance will be yet another layer to her ever-growing beauty empire.

As we previously reported, back in February, it was reported that Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty brand had officially crossed over into being valued at $1 billion.

Congrats to Rihanna on all of her success, and we’re sure the expansion of her empire will continue to have her supporters spend their coins on her products.

2021 Fantasy Soccer RB Consistency Rankings: Discover potential sleepers, busts in working again leaderboards

Most fantasy football leagues have head-to-head matches every week. For better or for worse, it’s what we’re all used to and how most of us prefer to play. Having consistently solid producers is the ultimate luxury in H2H leagues, but most fantasy owners struggle to incorporate consistency into their rankings or draft day decisions. As great as it is to have RBs who can jump 150 yards and three TDs every Sunday, it’s just as frustrating when your running back scores over 20 one week and five the next. Nobody wants to have one of the highest scoring teams and miss the playoffs, but it seems to happen every year.

We can all accept that “luck” is part of the equation for success in fantasy football. Injuries, bad weather, tough matches, and now COVID concerns are all variables that can affect fantasy teams. There is so much they can only do if they strike. However, you have some control over your team’s consistency by targeting the right players.

Over at BigGuyFantasySports.com we have what is called the “Clutch Report”. There you can calculate the “Clutch Factor” (CF) that a player must exceed each week in order to receive a “Clutch Game” in your league, based on the number of teams and the scoring format. For example, in 12-team PPR formats, a running back needs to collect over 11 Fantasy Points each week to be eligible for a “clutch game”.

2021 PPR FANTASY RANKING:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Kicker | Highest 200

We refer to a player’s consistency rate as their “clutch rating” (CR). A very consistent player has a CR of over 70 percent. The elite fantasy studs are usually in the 80-90 percent range.

2021 STANDARD FANTASY RANKING:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Kicker | Highest 200

Every draft season we look for undervalued players who have been consistent and important to the success of a fantasy team. They might not have got the most total points, but neither did they get a lot of complete duds. Conversely, because of their lack of consistency, I look for overrated players. Here’s a sneak peek at my top 24 consistency-based rankings for RBs heading into the 2021 season.

FANTASY AUCTION VALUES 2021 (Standard & PPR):
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Kicker | total

21 RB2 B. Myles Gaskin MY
22nd RB2 B. Kareem hunt CLE
23 RB2 B. Mike Davis ATL
24 RB2 B. Darrell Henderson THE

FANTASY CONSISTENCY VALUES 2021:
Quarterback | Wide-angle receiver | Close end

A ranking by RB1A means that these backs are expected to achieve a CR of over 80 percent this year. Currently, Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, and Alvin Kamara are classified at this level. The remaining nine Tier 1 running backs are all classified as RB1B, which means they are expected to exceed a CR of 70 percent. Backs higher up the list, like Ezekiel Elliott and Saquon Barkley, are expected to make way more than 70 percent but likely not to get above 80 percent. The lower-rated RBs could certainly exceed a 70 percent CR, but we believe this is less likely.

The RB2A backs are currently JK Dobbins and Chris Carson. They have question marks (injury concerns, carry distribution, etc) but they both have the talent and track record that make me confident they can achieve 65-70 percent CR this season.

Let’s take a look at some of these running backs and see which ones are undervalued or overvalued based on their current ADPs.

2021 FANTASY SLEEPER:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Every team

Undervalued: JK Dobbins, Ravens

Dobbins ruined Mark Ingram’s fantasy value last year, but his 53 percent CR doesn’t look good for the season. However, when Dobbins got 10 or more touches in a game – something he was supposed to get every week this year – he had a CR of 88 percent. I placed him just outside the top division at RB13 but he could certainly finish above that. His current ADP is RB16 so make sure you grab it as your RB2 and maybe get the RB1 value out of it.

Overrated: Joe Mixon, Bengals

Just as Cincy gets a real quarterback, Mixon is injured and misses 10 games. The good news is that he was pretty consistent over those six games, getting a CR of 67 percent. However, his current ADP is RB13 / Round 2. I have him on RB18 based on previous seasons. He has good value as later RB2, but he has always been drafted as a borderline top 12 back despite never having played at that level.

FANTASY TIERS 2021 & STRATEGY DESIGN:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | D / ST

Ultimately, trying to be consistent should be part of your fantasy design prep every year. The total score is great, but if a player can’t generate it consistently, you may miss the playoffs after a season of big wins and even bigger losses.

Two weird crimson asteroids someway migrated from the Kuiper Belt to the principle asteroid belt

When asked what color asteroids would be in the asteroid belt, most people probably cannot think of red. But that is exactly the color of two new asteroids that Hasegawa Sunao from JAXA and an international team of researchers have found. The catch is that the objects don’t seem to have come from the asteroid belt at all, but are most likely Trans-Neptunian objects that were somehow transported into the asteroid belt. How exactly they got there is still up for debate.

The two asteroids, known as 203 Pompeja and 269 Justitia, were originally thought of as D-type asteroids, are rich in silicates and carbon, and make up the majority of the Jupiter Trojan asteroids orbiting behind the giant planet. There is a group of these types of asteroids called the Kybeles, which form their own separate group of asteroids a little further outside the larger belt.

Distribution curve of the locations of different groups of asteroids.
Credit – Astronomical Image – NASA, Ryugu Image – JAXA, Hasegawa et al.

However, the spectral lines of the two new asteroids were “too steep”, which made them much more similar to the “centaurs” – a body larger than an asteroid but smaller than a planet orbiting between Jupiter and the Kuiper Belt. The reddish color they reflect indicates that there are organic compounds present on their surface, which is one of two different categories that centaurs can be – the other is “blue”.

These spectra make 203 Pompeiia and 269 Justitia unique in the asteroid belt, but they resemble their asteroid neighbors in other ways, such as their size (110 km diameter for Pompeiia and 55 km diameter for Justitia) and their orbit, which makes them exactly in the centers in the traditional asteroid belt. But why a Trans-Neptunian centaur should immigrate to the asteroid belt remains a mystery.

Artistic concept of NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft preparing to touch the surface of the asteroid Bennu.
Credits: NASA / Goddard / University of Arizona

One way to solve this puzzle could be to pay a visit. Hayabusa-2 and OSIRIS-REx are two recently successful missions that have visited asteroids and returned valuable material samples from their surfaces. Another mission to these unique asteroids would not be out of place as it could both provide a glimpse of how they landed there and help collect samples of examples of objects that otherwise only exist much further out in the solar system .

Currently, the discoveries are so timely that there are no plans for such a visit. However, there is still plenty of remote sensing force to guide them in making plans. There might be even more of these reddish objects in the belt that might be noticed first, given the increased attention this recent discovery received.

China orders mass testing in Wuhan and Beijing restrictions because the Covid Delta spreads

Residents of the city of Wuhan in the Chinese province of Hubei are due to take nucleic acid tests for Covid-19 on August 3, 2021.

STR | AFP | Getty Images

China is on the brink of resurgence in major cities from Beijing to Wuhan, and authorities have put mass tests and widespread travel restrictions in some areas.

Daily Covid-19 cases are on the rise again as the Delta variant spreads across the country.

China’s National Health Commission said it confirmed 96 Covid cases on Wednesday – 90 cases and more were reported for the third day in a row. Of the newly confirmed cases, 71 were transmitted locally, said the health commission.

Economists fear that tough government crackdowns on movements could harm the economy – the only major economy that grew last year.

“China has already shown that it is ready to take tough measures to control Covid, and we have no doubt it will do so this time too,” said Robert Carnell, regional director of Asia-Pacific research at Dutch bank ING , in a note on Wednesday.

“The strict restrictions on movement and travel that already exist will likely produce the desired results. But the Delta variant is a particularly slippery little creature, and the concern for us and many others is how quickly this will happen and at” what the economy has cost in the meantime, “he added.

Read more about China from CNBC Pro

When Covid-19 first surfaced in the country in late 2019, authorities put in place strict lockdowns and mass testing to control the nationwide outbreak.

Since then, the Chinese authorities have cracked down on all flare-ups of Covid infections. The recent proliferation of the more highly transmissible Covid Delta variant has once again prompted authorities to tighten containment measures across the country.

State-run media agency Xinhua reported that authorities have urged people to restrict travel and avoid gatherings, and have suspended some flights, trains and long-distance bus services.

The capital Beijing imposed strict entry and exit controls on Sunday and is said to be in a “critical stage” of epidemic control after cases rose for the first time in months in late July, Xinhua reported.

The city of Wuhan, where the corona virus first appeared, will test all of its residents for new Covid cases, the news agency said.

As of July 20, Wuhan had administered more than 17 million doses of Covid vaccines, and the vaccination rate for those 18-year-olds and above was 77.63%, according to the Wuhan City Health Commission.

“Slow patch” in China’s economy

China’s economic recovery has been mixed, with export-oriented sectors accounting for most of the growth, while domestic consumption has recovered more slowly.

The resurgence of Covid-19 infections and recent containment measures would delay a recovery in Chinese budget spending, said Sian Fenner, chief Asian economist at consultancy Oxford Economics.

“The geographic spread of the Delta variant is going to worry the Chinese authorities. We have already seen that they have very little tolerance for, you know, even a relatively small flare-up,” she told CNBC’s Squawk Box Asia. On Wednesday.

“We were hoping that this would actually improve service consumption through the increase in vaccination rates, but it looks like we’ll see a different kind of slow patch in the future and … the delayed recovery in household spending,” she added.

Fenner said she is sticking to her full-year growth forecast of 8.4% for China for now. That is slightly more than the International Monetary Fund’s forecast 8.1% growth in China.

– CNBC’s Weizhen Tan contributed to this report.
